Nigeria 2014 World Cup adidas jersey (home strip):

The agreement with the sportswear manufacturer ends this month and is not likely to be reactivated afterwards according to NFF sources

The sportswear manufacturing contract of German company adidas with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will expire on December 31, 2014, the Director of Marketing of the Nigeria Football Federation, Idris Adama has told Goal.

When asked whether the contract would be renewed, Adama declined to say for now whether it would be renewed or not until discussions take place.

“Yes, the Adidas contract will end at the end of this month and for now I cannot say authoritatively that the contract will be renewed or not. But we the Nigeria Football Federation will decide on the issue that is what I can say for now,” he disclosed.

But when Goal made consultations with another influential member of the NFF, he stated that the contract may not be renewed because the body signals from both ends did not point towards that fact.

“I can tell you authoritatively that the contract will not be renewed because both parties have disagreed on the issue. So right now we are talking to other kit firms that we believe have offered better package and have shown huge interest in kitting the national teams. The decision will be taken by the Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation,” the source disclosed.

The choice of lime green instead of forest green for the country's World Cup jersey brought about a lot of disapproval when adidas unveiled the shirts. However, many fans quickly adapted to it and accepted the change after explanations that the colour was not decided by a telecommunications company that sponsors the national team.

Indications are that adidas was not happy with the conduct of the Super Eagles at the World Cup where many players wore jerseys that belonged to other sportswear manufacturers like Nike and Puma in camp.

I think this is the opportunity to go with Puma, they will give us better kits than adidas anyway
