For social media marketers, knowing how often to post on your Facebook page or your client’s could be very daunting most times. There are lots of calculations to be made as well as understanding your audience in order to know how often you should post.
Facebook constantly changes its post organic reach algorithm and in recent times it has been changed such that post reaches could be way to low, as low as 10% of your total fans only get to see your post updates. This could be very depressing knowing that you have worked so hard to garner this fan base by either paying to promote your page or some other kind of offline promotions and also taking so much time to craft a post. Really it’s not easy. These days the competition in advertising on Facebook or having a Facebook page is so much that even the small scale industries also do the same on Facebook, thereby sharing the same fans as your page that has been in existence since the beginning of Facebook for business. This is another factor that determines how often your posts will be shown to your fans, as such will determines how frequently you should post on Facebook.


Now if you are this small scale business, and you want your posts to reach above 50% of your fans, it is advisable to post just a few times in a week. Or maybe even twice a week would be a great idea. Posting daily only irritates your audience, so they will end up not engaging with your posts that they don’t like, and thereby reducing your post engagement. These customers may not unfollow your page, but for the fact that they won’t engage with your posts only reduces the possibilities of your post reaching them the next time you make an update.

Another factor to consider in knowing how often to create posts is by understanding the niche of your own business. For blogs or news sites, it’s okay to share content as frequently as possible. People love to engage in general news and updates and that is why sharing of posts may not bring much harm to their post reaches. If you are a big corporation that has gathered too many fans, then in order to remain relevant to your fans, post only as frequent as a few days in a week to get the best value of the fans you have spent so much in acquiring.

Another major factor that determines how often you should post is the type of content you share. Facebook tends to send videos and photos to a wider range of fans because people engage more with visuals than texts. Posting links from websites won’t help at all. It would rather reduce your post engagement. Reason is because it is believed that you aim at using Facebook as a medium to drive traffic to your site, as such the engagement would be on your site comment box and not Facebook’s. So you see, Facebook know what they are doing. And if you fall in this category of businesses that intend sharing their website links on their Facebook page, then it is advised that you’d rather pay for a promoted posts that would boost your post reaches.

So in summary my advice is that, Facebook marketers should not waste so much time and energy in creating posts on daily basis, it rather hurts than helps. Ensure that when making an update, it should be worth it, and must be a post that would matter a lot to your business.
