Initially, a list of 23 players was released by FIFA as candidates for the Ballon d’Or award, with Manuel Neuer, the German and Bayern Munich number one man as the only goalkeeper on the list. Recently, the list was shortlisted to 3 nominees and the goalkeeper still, is one of the three best players that could possibly be crowned at the end of the day. The challenge for the German international is not whether or not he deserves the Ballon d’Or award, indeed he deserves the award, but the real challenge is the fact that the two best players the word has ever seen are also, on the list, competing for the same award.
