Pls if I change the engine of my toyota camry 1999 from V6 to i4 would it lead to better fuel enonomy, would it also affect performance of the car. Also how much would a good i4 engine cost. Thanks |

ekeochaeke: It would make more financial sense to sell your Camry V6, then purchase a Camry 2.2 I4 DOHC 16V. The cost of doing this swap without cutting corners, would be on the high side. For a 3.0 V6 to 2.2 I4 swap, your shopping list should look like this: 2.2 I4 DOHC 16V engine, complete with all accessories. Automatic / manual transmission for the 2.2 I4 engine. 2.2 I4 exhaust front section. 2.2 I4 engine wiring harness. 2.2 I4 engine ECU. 2.2 I4 automatic transmission TCU. 2.2 I4 engine front crossmember. 2.2 I4 engine coolant hoses. 2.2 I4 aircon pressure lines. 2.2 I4 power steering pressure lines. Anything less is a botched job waiting to happen. Mind you though, with the wrong technician, this could still be a conversion you'll end up wishing you'd never gotten involved in. 4 Likes |

Did you see the lengthy list Siena gave you up there? That would cost you nothing less than 300k. And there is no guarantee the conversion will work without issues. Just sell the V6, and buy an I4 for peace of mind. |

Spend N300k on a botch job to save 3mpg on gas. It will take over 10 years to recoup the savings if everything was done right. OP seems you are not fit to own a vehicle with a financial mindset like that. The thought of spending N100 to save N1 should never come up in you mind |

The average price for a camry 1998/1999 (nigerian used) is 500-650k even if you sold your car at 300k you would still not be at a loss instead of going this route.
