If this is true then I am disappointed in these unions. Why should they think they can hold the whole country or a section of the country to ransom over a private employer/employee dispute. Instead of going to court, they are inflicting hardship on others. Next time Nigerians won't take them seriously.
This is unfortunate. I expect more people to speak out.

You see Jonathan is working.

Amaechi bribed APC delegates $10000 each and double what Atiku was giving.

That's why Buhari won.

Progressives?

Utter rubbish.

Some of you guys are going to enter the market naked very soon because of your obsession with APC. I thought you all said the party had nothing to offer and was going to collapse? Why is it giving you so much sleepless nights? Mumus!

It is highly unfortunate that we have clones as union leaders. He is telling us that Total has no right to transfer their staffs again. I wonder when transfer has turn out to be sack in NUPENG terms and warped reasoning. Very shameful.

If the union wants to employ her that's fine but if she is under the employment of a private firm she is obliged to go wherever she is sent. They should just elect another representative. Is she working for the union or Total. These people just ruin themselves when they cannot seperate politics from governance. Rubbish nonsense unions. People have to suffer because of their lust for power. Can the useless man speaking bring in one single dollar of foreign investment. That's how they have ruined every single government enterprise from refineries to steel plants, PHCN to the ports. And he has the guts to announce that after a 'thanksgiving service'. Bloody, lazy, bureaucrat.

They are in a race for the bottom. Oil prices are falling and will remain low for years to come. Total might as well cash in on this event and lay them all off. Let them return to their villages to farm and do union with grasscutter and catfish.

These UNION people are wicked; if the woman was transferred to Lagos then she should go. Alternatively she can resign and be a full staff of the UNION.

I have always said it that our labour unions are part of the problems afflicting his nation. Some of their demands are simply silly and unreasonable and every Nigerian will blame Jonathan when the govt in its wisdom refuses to meet the demands. Why on earth should NUPENG plunge the nation into crisis for no reason? What happened to seeking redress with the court if they feels their secretary shouldn't be transferred?

I hope to see the day consumers of petroleum products in Nigeria will go on strike for 1 week only. Wonder who they will sell their fuel to? Monster and heartless union always punishing the innocent with their vain reasons and headless strikes.....

And my State is affected o.... cry

Some us need to understand the issue here very well. Companies have rights to transfer their staff but this case was an act of victimization. Secondly, when a staff is elected as Union representative, you cannot transfer the staff out of the branch or zone he or she was elected. Once, any company agrees that the union should exist in the company, the company is expected to abide by some of these agreements. Its part of the union/management agreement. Again, Total showed there hand by asking Mrs Elo to take leave of absence thereby showing thereafter that the transfer is not motivated by any work requirement but to render her ineffective as the Zonal secretary of the union. Now Mrs Elo did not refuse to take the leave of absence but since this is the first time such thing will come up in d zone the modalities needs to be worked out bw d parties. But b4 d scheduled date for a meeting, Total issued her a sack letter. So there are events that culminated to the present situation. Its not just now. That the strike is coming now is most unfortunate and I personally would hv preferred d union waits till after xmas. Pengassan position is dat other companies might want to toe the same line and b4 u know it all elected officials are transfered out of d zone they were elected. There r serious intrigues in all pengassan election. Companies sponsor candidates n when there candidates fails election, they resort to other means including forcing a re-election by removing whoever they don't want thru this means (transfer) and making sure their man wins. That is why pengassan has such agreement that an elected member cannot be transfered outside d branch or zone once elected.

I was saw Total as having a stronger union than the other OICs. Obviously the management wasn't too happy with it.

This is very sad

We understand that there are intrigues. The issue is how does this affect Nigeria or a section of the country. There are avenues for resolving these disputes. There's National Industrial Court, Industrial Arbitration Panel, the Ministry of Labour has several dispute resolution mechanisms. Why should these unions choose to hold us all to ransom by going on strike? Why involve the country in this private matter?
They have turned us into pawns in their own chess game. Have they fought for deregulation of the industry? Have they fought to secure an increase in operating capacity of our refineries? Have they fought for the building of more refineries?
What is the value of these jokers to Nigerians? Are we just leverage they use to squeeze out better working conditions for their members?
Those are the issues.
