wen any substance expires...it becomes dangerous and the same is applicable to poisons. But with respect to poisons it will be less poisonous cause it may not be able to exert its killing effect

Professor! Have you tried it before?

OP in all seriousness, why do you want to know?

@ Mods, it is simply irresponsible to put this topic on the front page.

It can only assist people planning homicide or suicide.

on d contrary, I think the expiration will rather make the intended effect less severe, or even ineffective.

When it 'expired' it means the product is no longer actively good or useful for the initial purpose as would have been expected when it is new. It can still be deadly because it poison as in poisonous and can kill slowly that when it's new. It less poisonous but still can kill slower than when it is new and very potent.

Depends .For example snake venom gets denatured n quite harmless if extracted and stored improperly.

And what if it was properly preserved?

@Op, a poison does not lose its causticity if properly kept! And mind you...anything could be poisonous if it's expired...and if an expired drug become poisonous and it stayed for decades...it'll only remain at that level of corrosivity without deteriorating or increasing!

Any compound...chemically mixed to serve as a poison...could remain at that level if properly preserve for decades...except its diluted with water!

When we say poison most of our mind goes to killing fellow humans,I dont think there is any of the poisonous substances specifically created for human annihilation,They are mostly for pest control or for insect, and some are just chemicals for other different purposes thats why they come with skull and bone signs just to warn that it is dangerous for humans.
Back to your question, when they expire they become slightly ineffective for the original purpose or just cant guarantee the same potency as initially meant for,but it will still be very lethal for human consumption.

Poisons are like normal regimen with a desirable composition meant to be toxic to tissues and organ systems. Even drug overdose is considered to be poisonous because it is in more than its normal concentration needed to elicit normal effects in the body and therefore mal-handling by the detoxifying organs like the liver is inevitable..so,for any drug, its therapeutic effect reduces as more than preempted half lives pass...it becomes weakened and less poisonous as compared to its initial toxicity like what is seen in biotransformation, more specifically,detoxification...still poison is poison no matter how less poisonous!!! Don't try this at home cos result might vary!!

Bro,poisons are different criminals so to say...bonds weaken as they expire making them less effective and less poisonous..hence highly presentable to biotransforming and excretory organs of the body(liver and kidney basically)...also, poisons are absorbed in their neutral forms like other drugs,,weakened drugs(poisons in this regard) easily present their bonds to solvent(water) in the alimentary canal and become ionised,a form whose absorption via the intenstinal mucosa is very low...poisons get into the blood and get to organs especially the brain before they elicit their neurotoxin or hematoxin action of theirs....

As regards ur position, poisons unlike criminals weaken as they pass their expiratory age or better put, shelf life...only that the rate make be very slow

..well,it depends.Any poison is nothing but a chemical compound.Expiration of poison is de failure of de chemical or physical structure of dat poison or compound.
However, after the expiry date of de toxicity or effectiveness,de poison becomes less effective because the ingredients have become diluted..
