The sound of UNIBEN to an outsider is like the sound of NIGERIA to a foreigner. There is no good news about the school. This happened way back in 2005, a friend of mine been in uniben at that time were playing pool and this friend stepped on a cultist guy. They started exchanging words.Now, We all know the usual word that people say in benin or Edo state when they are in argument with another , they go by " U KNOW NO WHO I BE"? My friend said "who u b, gerrout,u no fit do anything". Cultist said," u kno no anything,I go sho u who I b for dis school". My friend who was scared knew he was not a cultist but wanted to put fear in that cultist guy. Situation eased up when the cultist guy left. Three days later, boyz bin arrange my guy for osasogie in broad day light, men(people) cud not do anything. Dem carry my guy out of the scene to a bush deep inside. One of the cultist said, "make we light this guy for here", the other said,"make we still go further". It came a time when the main cultist who had confrontation with my friend said to him"you see-me finish the other day, now this is the end of your world". As d cultist guys dey talk,na so my friend use that chance give one of dem elbow for back and ran to his heels. To cut the story short, my frd contacted his bro for d school wey give am transport. He used dat transport take go abuja.he narrated his ordeal,na so dem carry am go ghana. Na for ghana him give us the gist plus d fact that I knew d guy in uniben back then. Omo, to them cultist, na beg we dey beg una,take life easy. We all came to study, after studying, we get white collar jobs.and we live our life from there going... 25 Likes 1 Share |

I was there between 1998 & 2002. I stayed very close to angle 90(if you know where that is and if it still existed). It's a cool place to stay. Really enjoyed my stay all through. Between BDPA, Ekosodin and Osasoghe, Ekosodin is the roughest and the best. Back in those days, Ekosodin used to have the cheapest hostels. Though, somethings happened, but if you know your way, no wahala. Most of you guys that got there after 2002, I believe you never experienced anything in Ekosodin. I was told that in the 90s, you don't dare go there during Ekosodin week. Then, some 'men' sits at the gate to obtain at every opportunity, but most of it died down after the anti-cultism campaign of 1998/1999. 3 Likes |

I remember going to do a job for chattered bank in Edo and Delta way back and decided to check my sister who was still in uniben then. I dropped my stuffs at my friend's house along 3rd cementary rd,and later went to Ekosodin to check my sister. One thing I noticed was the many eyes starring at me as I kept walking up and down like it was my zone. My ever red eyes and tall frame always made people suspect I was a cultist but luckily for me,all the starring and looks just ended there. After some time,I decided to go check my friends in town(they were all strong men repping different things). I was at the other side of the road waiting to pick a cab going to town and as usual,there were lots of students there. All of a sudden,I saw people running away from the bus stop and I was wondering why they were running but I refused to run;I dey form big boy. Before I knew what was happening,I was the only one standing there. Next thing,I saw this dude waking past me with something tucked inside his shirt and his hand supporting the base. By the time He got to my front,it was too late to run. I just summoned the courage to stand there and not shake or show fear. We looked at ourselves eyeball to eyeball as He walked by. He looked at me as He walked away and kept watching his back even after He had passed me. Inside me,my heart was racing faster than a buggatti veyron but I managed to keep my calm and not show the fear. After He had gone and people started coming back to the bus stop with some looking at me suspiciously,I just crossed back into the school and suspended my trip to town before they waste me for nothing. At night,it was all gun shots sound and voices of "who goes there"?. That was when I realised that uniben students don't blow candle twice before it goes off. The girls quickly reach out for their jeans trousers. You hear people rushing to lock their doors and all manner of sounds and before you know it,everywhere is quiet. Looks like they all have a perfect way of timing what they do to protect themselves cos the running up and down sounds from each room,seems to stop at the same time. The next day,I left their wahala environment for them and went to stay with my friends in town. Na babes wey I go chyke,make me first go chill for students hostel. Being in Ekosodin for 2 years you will probably have lot of stories to say,as time goes on I will share them in bits. FAST FOWFAR----------------------------- Second semester 100 level(2007). As I went for awoko(night class) in theater to is closest to the Faculty of Law main building. I had woken up from sleep that early morning after reading for 1:30mintes (I no go lie)as I woke up at the middle of the right hand side of the theater,I saw just two persons reading,immediately I sat up to read the,one of the guys closed his book stood up and started working towards my direction,he walked pass me pulled the phone from the socket and walked out, within the next 10mintes a guy sleeping on a bench close the phone woke up,the nest thing he said "my phone" I was about going out then I stood where I was turned, na so we start to pursue the guy o,but the guy ran through ekosondin gate fear of the unknown after the gate made every one of us ran away. Lmao!  my case a while back! I entered ekosodin looking and feeling staunch, my chained wrist watch, all star wear, my M.I haircut with basket mouth ish twists on it, coupled with my light skin.. In fact I was looking eye catching, even my frnds I walking with said I was drawing attention to dem, that I was supposed to blend in  Oga, I stayed till to 7, as I was going back to d sch hostel, na two strong men approach me and ma paddies o, say make I buy dem I crate of gulder, luckily I wasn't with my wallet, I was also holding my rickety torchlight phone, so dem no bother ask of my phone, my BB kpatakpata dy hostel dy charge As e b say I get sweet mouth small, I put am to good use.. Omo! E no work o, dem co-ordinate me and maguys enta corner, empty their pockets of its valuables and all. As e b say I no get valuable, dem say make I pull my watch and all star o.. Trek bare footed back to d hostel.. See wahala! I was already sweating profusely and thanking God I was free to go when one of them spoke my language.. U knw hw it is nw.. Dy gave us our belonging, advised us on how to blend in and not to be out late in ekosodin and even escorted us past Barrack Obama hostel where swarm of badt guys camp for outside.. I come begin thank God say ds guys block us o  If say dem no block us, how we for take pass front of barrack obama hostel without being called and schooled In fact, I swore to limit my entry into ekosodin as much as I can.. For brevity, I will share one or two........Na lik few days to Sossa election, everybody dey rally round mak him candidate win, n to dis end we came up wt an alignment ( socio-economic-geography...that's d name we called the accord.), that is, sociology, ecostat n geography,,we dey team up against the almighty n alwys greedy Pol-science...we held the meeting at the "bush bar" 4 isior.... On our way back, we culdnt see main gate bus on time, wen we con sti enta maingate, no faculty bus, we gat trek frm main gate to ekosodin gate, arnd 11pm... Others(lik15 or so) don crash inside sch, sm don enta BDPA,six of us think say we gt mind, we enta "d village".. As we enta d notorious Edo strt.. We jst spread ourselves 4 road,com dey waka lik d "westlife"..we no knw say som "bad" guys dey one corner dey observ, fear don dey catch dem say who b dis ones,,na so we see one woman wey dey pack her foodstuff, one of us jst suggest mak we buy spaghetti go cook,, na d mistake b dat..as we branch d woman side, we com dey mak mak noise, dey talk say tank God all dis "badboys n useless cultists" no dey road 2day..we no knw say som dey 4 one empty shop dey hide, as dem no knw who wi 1st b,, as dem hear us,,,dem jst knw say dis ones na JEWs.... Oboy com see vexation.. Hahaha...I can totally relate Lived in Ekosodin for the six (6) years I schooled in UNIBEN. The experiences are countless. 1. Frog jumping for about 500m because I was "roaming" for chairman dem area near Hostel 37 (100 Level) 2. Broad daylight shooting by 2pm during my registration. I throway my folder run enter Lagos. Popsy no gree hear, sent me back. (100 Level) 3. Robbery on Ekhorotunwen (I hope I got it right) just before Newton's Villa. My new Sagem X7 was collected after I received two resounding slaps (100 Level) 4. Personal Encounter with "Black Ninja"- Those who know, know...Na God save me that day 5. Robbery on the road that leads to Colon Towers, just after Twins junction. The mark of the hand axe is still on my head 6. Unfortunately indicted for housing a friend that was trying to escape from cultism. God himself saved me that day because I left my place 5 mins before they stormed and took away my TV and VCD 7. Kneeling down for 1hr in Colon Towers, because one small boy no hear my "Good Morning" By 300 LEVEL, I knew who was who. Africa, Bazu... WHo know, still know8. Challenged an oppressor and was slapped. I saw the guy later in Engr. wearing blue lab coat (meaning he was in 200 level). I control my men wey dey my 400 Level class, and he was humbled. 9. Settled numerous issues from Mummy is Good to United Villa to Prince Villa. I was the acclaimed Pastor wey no dey hear word. 10. Final year in Ekosodin was fun. If someone's phone was stolen, I knew who to call. If any of my friends had any issues, I knew who to tell. Helped many young guys escape the popular "open office for your head" which meant buying beer or cigar. In retrospect, these cult guys are just young and fearful guys trying to prove themselves to the world. They are the most lily-livered folks I have met. When they are being looked for, they would run to Pastor, asking me to pray for them. It might not have been the best of experiences, but Ekosodin was a true reflection of the world we live in. I went, I saw, and I conquered. BTW, all those guys of those years are married with beautiful kids, some of them burning for God. Glad we never gave up on them. 79 Likes 10 Shares |

I stayed @ Ekosodin. In my 5th year, I was coming from clinicals (corporately dressed with tie).....came into my hostel and met some "Men" (Black Ax guys) drinking n smoking weeds. They called me and asked me to go get them 2 bottles of McDowells. (when I was hungry n thinking of how to get supper for mysef). So I asked the guy to bring the money so that I can help him to go n buy. ....aahhh, the Bros provoke. He con asked me 'who you be' ? I just told him my department n level. The other guy who seem to be their boss said " free this fine boy, see as he wear tie like pastor sef, he don tay for uniben small ". He then warn me never to answer that way again, say he just wan free me becus I don tay for uniben too. 22 Likes |

Nogen: Hey, take a chill pill...No one is praising or glorifying these acts. For most of us, we had no option than to find a way to survive amidst all these. When you look back, you can only smile and thank God, not because it is something you admire, but because he saw you through and when you even meet some of the guys who carried out these acts, you will be grateful to God for the new life they lead. So chill, it's not a university banter. These were and still are the realities of the place called Ekosodin and almost 40% of Student population reside there. Lol... Ekosodin sha My hostel was at Blue roof hostel where those lesbian girls from Uniben were beaten black and blue... The hostel was very cheap because it was far from the main gate. The night the girls were beaten, I went for night class early morning I was back in the hostel and as soon as I got in, policemen rushed into the hostel and majority of cultist ran away. They came to arrest the guys who were hardened cultists but met their absence. They burst the said boys door open and promised to be back for them... Two of the girls involved in the video were standing with the police and one claiming one of the boys took her iPhone. Trouble started for the rest of us when at 2am in the dead of the night, those boys that beat up the lesbian girls started banging on the gate of the hostel... The fence of my hostel is like 8feet and they jumped it, then opened the gate for their fellow members to come in... Fear killeth me ooo... They asked all the boys in the hostel to come outside and lie down on the ground to be flogged with belts for not defending them when police came that they did a good thing and were not wrong for beating up the girls... They went from door to door dragging boys out. I had a very low profile in the hostel, I just turned off the candle that was on and hid in my kitchen. It was one hell of a horrible night... That ended and later discovered that the very religious guy next door has changed, was later told by my roommate that the day they blended (initiated) him, he was badly beaten and he was the one that gave him garri to drink... The caretaker assigned to the hostel was also a cultist, paid remaining part of the rent to him which was for 6 months, not knowing he was not in good terms with the house owner and was even among the boys that beat up those lesbian girls... He never gave the rent to the landlord and I was made to pay the rent twice... Fear nor let me ask the guy o... I was never stopped on the way as I have this nerdy look and even when I went to watch ball at Edo street, if anyone step on me, I even say sorry... During 400 level, went for geology field trip and some guys living at ekosodin were talking about cultism close to where I was lying down, God saved me as I just turned the other way, they were talking about how were dirty and how they are the ones robbing students at night. Few minutes later, one Axe man came in and was furious, someone who was an Axe man that was in the room had contacted him and Kai he dared anyone who was a member of any other cult group to say a word or rep his cult and the person will die there right away... The room was quiet... He claimed he was crown and butcher... He kept ranting and even threatened to kill lecturers present if they dare interfere... Them get mind I swear... Ekosodin sha...
