Came across this thread.
Some vital areas have not been covered. In Nigeria, it's easier to broker a deal especially for all the people on the thread looking to join the 'club'.
Someone said it's easier to get small contracts, yes I agree but sometimes it may not be worth it. As long as it's a contract, there is a basic level of stress involved especially for newbies.
Also, avoid the 'bottom up' approach, always try to use the 'top down'. This way you are sure of getting it.

Again, always try to identify the contracts 'point man' I.e the 'unofficial' rep of the vested interests so that you come to an understanding. Without this, your proposals (though wonderful) will likely collect dust or worse, form the basis for someone else who gets it.

By the way:
Gurus in the house, is anyone feeling the heat I'm feeling due to Jona's loss? I had a deal with NERC and seriously pulling all my strings to get paid my balance before May 29th.

Hehehehe....such heat is pronounced more on federal contractors. Before elections, i have been channeling my focus on my state (not federal), and i have been smiling ever since cos its still the same PDP in charge and more importantly my "contacts" just got a step closer to the govt. After May 29th i should be closing the access gap to Delta State house of assembly. Cant wait to start partaking in the cake (at the state level). grin

O boy, I was tempted to play state level o! But I just couldn't ignore the federal pitch. A bone from Abuja is worth more than a whole meal at state level. Plus, state level is far more dangerous and competitive. However, the federal govt is a blanket that covers all.
Anyway, God dey.
My only saving grace now is that I stayed very professional, I was not 'visibly partisan' during the campaigns. This helped me to play both fields simultaneously and subtly.
However, my colleagues are seriously having High BP now. I know a guy that did a 750M job, Fed. Works don tell am sey make I'm come after handover. The guy is on fire now.

It's now a 'connection' contest because the more connected you are, the more likely it is that you will get paid before May 29th.

I have ran through the WHOLE length of this thread and all I can say is that I am blessed!
Thing is that I quit my job with the government (long story), having registered a LLC, I knew there would be challenges because of my background in the core civil service where u push them files, this thread found me and has explained a lot of what I only have scanty ideas about. I want to thank you @databoy247 and @scantee for taking time out to add value to my life. @databoy247, I will be in touch via wassap portal. Keep up the good work and may God reward you. I guess you are really doing KINGDOM work to the GLORY of God by adding value.
Thanks again.

We cannot dispute the fact that connections play a major role in getting a contract but from my experience, you can still get contracts without connections. It depends on how you package your company and ensuring you meet EVERY requirement. Believe it or not, some organizations still award contracts based on merit to qualified contractors without actually collecting "bribe".

And who says people are born with connections? angry

If you wish you can start building your own strings of connections and in no distance time you will have some solid ground. More details on how this can be achieved is found in the corporate walker document (a handbook for contractors).
