If u ask me its not far from what hilary clinton said that this present nigeria president has supervised the looting of the oil and its sales proceeds. Its obvious us does not want its money to go to the CABAL, but would buy frm other countries where the president utilizes oil sales to the benefit of its citizen
yes, u r right. d u.s administration isn't corrupt nor immoral like Nigeria's

Why can't we refined our oil and start exporting it to other Africa and Asia countries?
We should go back to agricultural....
Am angry with the federal government, they don't invest in science cos without science, no country can move forward, which is why I classify Africa as a backward continent....so if am been rude.
A word is enough for the wise.

The reasons are pretty obvious for anyone who has been listening to the news and actively following global events:

1. America refused to sell high grade military weapons to Nigeria because somehow the weapons would inevitably end up in the arms of the terrorists. And as far as the US is concerned, it makes sense to distance themselves from Nigeria seeing as it would only be a matter of time before the world identified the weapons used in killing innocent Nigerians as being from the US.

2. The statement that the US ramped up its crude oil production is basically politic-speak. They had to distance themselves from the country because "we're simply bad business". This explains why they upped their crude oil order with other OPEC nations.

Anyone with eyes can see that this is clearly the case.

What can the country do to recover from the current naira slump and possible economic collapse?

1. Actively seek out other buyer nations and offer them a better deal.

2. Apply palliative measures such as shoring up the value of the naira while looking for a permanent solution (see my points 1 and 4). This could mean the CBN releasing more foreign exchange into the economy and allowing a freer forex trading environment as against the panic-mode policy/decree in place now. The naira might take a hit in the short term, but will most surely rebound i the medium and long term -again, 6-12 months. Of course, this would be an agreement with the govt in the form of a "loan" that the govt will repay within the 6-12 months required to fix the refineries and have them working at full capacity. This can be the done, the resources are available and adequate.

3. Divest from just the crude oil sector and actively invest in other high revenue sectors. We're currently not exporting anything else. if we could work really hard on IT infrastructure for example, we could become the next major outsourcing country as against the "sub-sub-outsourcing" that we do right now. Airtel and MTN call centers anyone?

4. Build/repair our own refineries and start exporting refined crude oil. This will be the best step we could ever take, and can be executed within six to twelve months if the government throws everything they've got at it.

That's pretty much it. Nigeria's issues aren't that difficult to fix. In fact, this might be the best thing to happen to us since '73. Now, we can actually get to work and grow our economy.

I think Nigeria needs to hit US back through their multi national companies doing business here. When US stopped buying India and China were waiting to take over. USA can suck up their dollars because Nigeria has outgrown being bullied by them.
Re: Why We Stopped Buying Nigeria’s Oil, By White House by calvin0324: 2:23pm On Dec 27, 2014
Well there many theories to this.....could be connected to the fact that nigeria is the biggest economy in africa OR madam clinton alluded withdraw dealings with a country that put the profit of oil sale in the hands of a *certain cabal*OR is this a retribution from the west*USA* towards our anti-gay law.....what ever the case it has nothing to do with GEJ/PDP or GMB/APC,,pls NLander think of a solutions rather than this unnecessary insulting and lack of political correctness

I wonder how Buhari will achieve economic diversification when He and APC has rejected systems that makes our States LGAs and Private Sector the vanguard of national development.

Buhari will never eradicate corruption and poverty because he will never implement the following

Resource control

Fiscal federalism

Privatization

Political federalism

Decentralization of Nigeria

Restructuring of Nigeria

Institutions submitting their quarterly activities to public scrutiny

Which are the fastest route to economic diversification , citizenry prosperity and political stability

Lol!! Buhari would rather go to make Abuja to even control the air Nigerians breathe.
This is why people wonder about the marriage between Tinubu-ACN-Southwest AND Atiku's nPDP-Buhari's CPC-Yerima's ANPP.

For decades, Tinubu/Southwest/ACN has been yearning for return of regional government system, fiscal federalism, a weaker Abuja power; while the people in nPDP, ANPP and CPC have been blocking all efforts to return fiscal federalism and regional government system to Nigeria.

When you have clueless, short sighted leaders the people are the ones who suffer due to the inability of this government to overcome the strong arm tactics of America.

1. Did we stamp out corruption?
2. Did we increase local refining production capacity?
3. Have we fast tracked developing other sources of foreign exchange?
4. Have we fast tracked our local manufacturing agenda?

The answer to all of these questions is a big fat NO. If Nigeria would have achieved just ONE of these things it would have left us in a better position diplomatically, and economically. This my brothers and sisters is an indictment of Goodlucks government. Don't be mad at Obama for putting a clueless child in his place. There is no reasonable explanation to reelect this man. People get the leadership they deserve. Let's hope we deserve better next year!
