Horror In Ogun State, Police Killed Innocent Woman In Exchange For Robbers. by mogentle(m): 9:34am On Dec 16, 2008
The incident happened on Friday 12 Dec 2008, Armed robbers came to a bank in Sagamu to Rob.The news got to the policemen. During the gun battle btw the police and the robbers, one innocent woman was killed by the policemen near the petrol station(she went there to buy fuel for the generator of the farm where she works). The next thing, the police stopped chasing the thieves, they carried the woman in their van, dressed her with charms and paraded her as the leader of the gang. Pls I cannot continue,.,.,.,.,.,.,It's too pathetic cry cry cry.
The picture of his corpse was put on the front page of Sunday Tribune 14 Dec.

Funmilayo (a.k.a Mama Salewa), an employee of Demirs Farms in Sagamu, who was on errand to buy fuel for the generator in the farm and was felled by crossfire between the police and armed robbers, was laced with amulets and charms to make the police made case that she led the robbery operation at a bank in Sagamu.

“It is more shocking that even when Funmilayo’s employer, Mrs. Blessing Alawode, went to the police to identify her and tell the true story of her identity and mission as of the time of the incident, the police pushed her out of the station, dismissing her as a mad woman.

“As if to prove that the insanity crisis was on the police side and not on Funmilayo’s employer, the police were alleged to have shot Funmilayo’s corpse on the side to give the impression that she was killed in a shootout. Those who took her photograph when she was killed by stray bullets insist that she had neither bullet wound on her side nor the amulets and charms the police paraded her with,” the statement said.

ARG(Afenifere Renewal Group) said it was unfortunate that instead of the police to admit that it had lost the war against robbers, as evident in the spate of robbery cases in Oyo and Ogun states, it had resorted to the killing of innocent citizens and defaming their memories as armed robbers.

The group, therefore, demands justice for Funmilayo, adding that “we call on Mr. Okiro to institute a thorough probe into this dastardly act.”

Yep, sounds like something our young police officers would do in order to avoid getting into trouble.

na today?

its a regular occurence, it happened in lokoja or therebouts three or four year back. police paraded a corpse shot in the face as an escaping armed robber - no comments on how you can shoot a guy running from you in the face - it then turned out the guy was a nigerian athlete who was enroute to buy stuff hfor his wedding. like so many other extrajudicial killings, this will soon be forgotten

rest assured that 90% of the people paraded as armed robbers are people who have fallen foul of police - which is why it oesn't pay to drag too much with illiterate thugs with guns.

offtopic
since nigerian police are not trained, they get their ideas about engaging in 'gun battles' from american movies , where cops can pull all sorts of ridiculous stunts that would endanger civilans, and which would get cops sanctioned in real life.

@ all, whenever you see a numbnuts with a gun, shooting - hit the deck - embarassment is better than death

This is everyday event in Nigeria.

It almost happened to me in 1994.

Police arrested us in Ikorodu for driving brand new car but it was broad-day and many people were there, they could not just shoot.

Later, they told us, we were lucky; they would have killed us and say we are armed robbers if it was not inside the city they saw us.

And they would get some prisoner who needs freedom to confirm that we robber together with them.

We had to pay with N10K for our lives.

Please, dont play with Nigerian Police. Give them want they want EGO and RUN like hell.

It is HELL of a country!

Hey Landis, ten thousand naira is not a bad price for the "highway insurance" of your life and that of your co-travellers.

You should know that driving a new car on Nigerian roads, without making adequate provision for the welfare of all policemen who stop that car, is a mandatory CAPITAL OFFENSE, punishable by a summary "accidental discharge", after which the expected donations will be liberated from the pockets of the deceased, before disposal of the offender's remains.

Next time, please have your cash ready for IMMEDIATE presentation AS SOON AS the key words " How for weekend ?" are formally invoked by the arresting officer, if you do not want to be mis-identified as a Grammar Man, and silenced with a Big Bang accordingly.

where did the police get charms and amulets? are nigerian policemen now babalawos? sad sad story.

what is there to probe? we should take to the streets and protest. See what is happening in greece. mayhem to the cure and what was the reason? a teenager was shot dead by a policeman. No one has talked about why, the main headline is this " Riot in Greece because a police shot dead a teenager" .

That was enough for the people of greece to go mad with rage.

what is happening with us? are we suddenly chickening out because of fear?
GOD HELP US!!!

that's secret of long life in Nigeria if you are not a BIG MAN: settle Police and Area Boys.

well said FBS.

Nobody is going to free Nigeria but Nigerians.

Sadly, there is no HOPE for Nigeria or the HOPE will take another 200yrs.

All around us we see people demandinf change: thailand, Ghana, Greece, Ukraine

Seems AFRICANS are too timid to ask for better life but ready to RUN abroad to enjoy better life.
