An Indain GIRL born with eight limbs is suffering from huge medical complications after undergoing an operation which saw her excess arms and legs amputated.
Lakshmi Tatma, now aged nine, was showered with gifts from pilgrims who believed she was some sort of God-on-earth when she was born in 2005.
Medics say the girl had a parasitic twin – an underdeveloped variant of a conjoined twin that does not have a heart or brain but often has limbs.
In order to give Lakshmi's life some normality, doct
ors removed her extra arms and legs after a highly-publicised operation in 2007.
But when the youngster finally returned home, villagers refused to accept it was the same girl and she became an outcast together with her family.
Lakshmi's health has now taken a turn for the worst as fluid is leaking from the areas where she had the limbs removed.
Her father has said he cannot afford to take her back to the hospital in Bengaluru, India, for further treatment.
Sambhu, who works as a labourer, said: "My daughter Lakshmi is not well. She urgently needs medical treatment. We are worried about her health problems but cannot do anything without money.
"She developed this problem last year and now she cannot sit in her classroom for long due to pain. The cold weather has added to her problems."
Her mother Poonam said the doctors who operated on her told her at that time that she would require another operation after eight years.
"We don't know what to do for her operation to happen again," she said.
Sambhu said an NGO in Rajasthan helped Lakhsmi after her unique case was widely reported by the media in 2007.
