The Holy Ghost is meant to be the spirit of God.

As part of the Trinity, Christians believe it is one and the same as God and Christ.

The word "ghost" in this context does not mean spirit of the dead. It was only much later that this meaning became attributed to it. The original meaning of "ghost" was "soul" or "spirit" - hence why it is also called the Holy Spirit.
