On my way home it felt like I was flying. I kept replaying what had transpired between Abibia and me, her words were like honey, except when she mentioned the fact that she had a boyfriend. I wasn’t going to let go of her because of that, my girlfriend was taken from me by a big headed bros called Emma, I don’t care who it was she was seeing. I was smitten.
If only Bauchi was around, he would have told me how to go about it. Some days before, I saw Odogwu and a bunch of fellow miscreants escort a rich politician around the estate. I had waited patiently to see if Bauchi was going to come around, he didn’t. I was disappointed.
I didn’t even know if Kiki was missing him anymore. Different guys came visiting though they didn’t enter her room, I wondered if they entered while I was away though. Since Bauchi left, I noticed that my crush on her had diminished or was it due to Abibia?
The voice that I could hear from my flat wasn’t that of Ezekiel, I wondered who the visitor was as I entered. Ezekiel had been bringing more of his prayer warrior friends to the house, I didn’t even act like I noticed. I also saw a porn magazine in the trash bin, I doubted it belonged to Kiki, the only kind of people who dispose porn are either those who had masturbated too much that their Instruments had started to hurt or people that had backslidden but were ready to surrender to Christ. I suspected Ezekiel.
The face staring at me sent shock waves down my spine. The fact that Kiki was sitting on his leg didn’t in any way reduce the shiver.

“Fifi, how was your paper?” Kiki asked with arms thrown around his shoulder. She was wearing one of those over-sized shirts that must have belonged to Bauchi, she wasn’t wearing any Bra for I could see the big mould shape of her nipplez.
“Fine, very fine,” I replied.
I looked into the eyes of Lekan, and if he recognized me, he didn’t show it.
“Hello Fifi, my name is Lekan,” he said stretching his hand for a handshake. I couldn’t help but notice that they were overly manicured.
“Hello Bros.”
Once again, he acted like he hadn’t seen me before, I was happy. I dashed to my room, shut the door, ran my fingers beneath my bed till I saw the nylon filled with kulikuli. With every crack of the very hard pastry, my heart beat became more regular, till I slept off.
It had been a while that I dreamt of my dad, but I did that afternoon. I was in the market, trying to buy a football and he was the seller. I kept telling him to give me at a discounted price but he refused, smiling. When I finally got the ball, it became an orange and I happily ate it.
I woke up from the dream running my tongue between my lips. Though it was just a dream, it was nice seeing him. The beauty about death was that he never grew older in my head. I listened carefully to be sure that Lekan had left the flat before going to the kitchen in search of anything to eat.
Kiki was frying yam when I got there. But that wasn’t the first thing I noticed, I noticed that she was wearing a gown that should have been worn by a 13yr old. Whenever she stretched to put a piece of sliced yam into the boiling oil, I could see the base of her well shaped bum. I wasn’t infatuated with her anymore didn’t mean I wasn’t sexually attracted to her, I told myself.
“Fifi you are a bad boy, why are you staring at my behind?” Kiki said interrupting the mild blue film playing in my mind.
“Your dress is too short na.”
“Why didn’t you just say I should change it instead of staring at me, I am like your mother in this house o”.
We both laughed.
“Well I decided that since Ezekiel had gone for vigil, I could dress as I wanted, Oga landlord, am I allowed?”
“Over allow dey worry you sef,” I said laughing and trying not to look again.
She also used her left palm to hold the gown in place whenever she stretched. It made the scenery hotter because it tightened the gown around her waist. The way they moved upward when she stretched.
“I will soon be done; you will eat fried yam and ketch-up, yes?”
“Yes na, I am very hungry,” I said, as I went back to my room. I hoped to think of Abibia till the food was ready.
There was a knock on the door that distracted me from kissing her in my mind.
As I opened the door, the fist of Lekan in all its manicured masculinity crashed on my face, I fell.

I could hear Kiki scream in the background but I could not see her, three guys entered the house with Lekan and immediately started kicking me. I used my hands to cover my face but that left the remaining parts of my body vulnerable. Was kiki laughing? Oh no, she was sobbing and mentioning something about blood. I could hear her call Lekan a beast. I looked up and saw Kiki trying to stoop two of the guys from hitting me. Her gown was going up and down, exposing her unclothedness to the guys that were making most of holding her back… then I passed out as I heard “You no know who we be for this town, ba?”
I dreamt of him again, for the second time that day. We weren’t in the market though, we were in a stadium, he was talking to me excitedly but all I could do was smile back. I couldn’t talk, I was hurt.
When I woke up, I realized I wasn’t the only one on my bed. Kiki was beside me, she was asleep. I tried moving but the pain was breathtaking, my moaning must have woken her up.
“Fifi, thank God you are awake, pele.”
I nodded.
“You see the pain Bauchi put you through, I am sure he is somewhere now, that idiot!”
At this point I should have been angry with him too but I wasn’t. Kiki started crying again.
“I thought Lekan was a gentle man o, that guy is a beast, he even allowed his friends to press my touch me carelessly. Ah, Bauchi will pay for this!”
The next time I woke up, it was morning and Kiki was still in my bed. I was grateful that I was able to move around, I still felt pain but it was better. A broken mirror lying on my table exposed a guy that didn’t look an inch like me. Both of my eyes were swollen and red, almost bloodshot, my cheekbone was swollen too. I chuckled at the site of my lips, they were like a concave and convex red banana lying on-top of each other.
I wondered how disgusting I would look when I went for the day’s Exam but I had no choice, university was a priority now. I splashed two bowls of water on my face, it stung but I was okay. I didn’t bother taking my bath.
On the way to the Exam centre, I couldn’t help but notice people stare at me, children were the worst. They actually pointed. The sun made my eyes born, tears began to roll down my face like I was crying but I wasn’t. The handkerchief I had was soaked with tears and blood, but nothing shocked me than what Abibia said when she saw me.
“You look like a work of art,” she said smiling at me.
“Are you serious right now?” I asked her, wanting to frown but my new features didn’t allow.
“Whoever dealt with you did a nice job.”
“Bleep you!” I said
“Nope, you won’t my dear,” she replied.
I found myself laughing with her though it hurt.
“See you after the Exams, soldier,” she said winking.
A normal person would have shown concern or at least asked what had happened to me. She want normal.
During the exams, my head started banging. I tried my best to concentrate but couldn’t, so I took short naps. After doing the best that I could, I left the hall. Abibia stood up immediately too and caught up with me as I stepped into the hallway.
“Where are you off to now?” she asked with her pen between her lips.
“A clinic I suppose, I need pain killers.”
She removed the pen, acting surprised.
“You know I am a certified nurse, right?”
“No, you aint,” I replied.
She laughed at me.
“Yes, you are right, I am not but I have drugs and they are free,” she said.
“Really, you have them with you now?”
“No silly, in my house. Let’s go.”

The drive to her house was silent; she had a cd walk-man on her lap and a connected earpiece filling her ears with music she seemed to enjoy. That was until we got to one of the finest houses I had ever seen.
“Welcome to my father’s house, soldier!”
“Wow, its beautiful,” I replied.
“Please don’t utter the word ‘beautiful’ while you look like that.”
“You are mad,” I said.
“Who isn’t?” she replied.

The house looked like a hotel.
There was a servant dressed in uniform who met us by the door.
“Welcome ma, I trust your exam went well?” the well trimmed black man asked.
“Yes, Gregory. Meet my friend Fifi, he was involved in an auto- accident. He Almost lost his poor life.”
“Oh, Master Fifi, it must have been a car to head collision?” Gregory asked.
Abiabia immediately started laughing, high-fiving Gregory for his mastery in punch-lines. I shook my head and followed her up the stairs that led to her room.
Without any shame, I must tell you that her room was bigger than my flat. It wasn’t pink like I imagined it would, instead it was filled with wallpapers of rock stars like Hoobastank, Staind and Foo fighters.
“So, what did you do to deserve this type of panel-beating, Fifi?” she asked from the bathroom, leaving the door ajar.
“You are seriously going to ask now, after all the yabs?” I asked as I pulled my sneakers and sat on her bed.
I could hear the shower come on.
“Fifi, do you wanna take a shower with me?” she screamed.
“Where are the drugs, jo?”
“Patience,” she said, singing in bits to the slaps of water hitting her bathroom floor.
“Okay, tell me which drug you want, African or Malaysian?” she asked covering herself with towels, one for her body, and the other for her hair.
“Give me the stronger one. I am in pains.”
She giggled and went to her dresser, coming back with two transparent nylons.
“Is that the drug you were talking about?” I asked.
“Yep, Soldier. The one on my right is African from Akure, while this one is Malaysian. They are both SK.”
The African weed was black in color, with tiny twigs, while the Malaysian was smoother and green in color.
“I promise you, you will feel no pain after you smoke up,” she said, placing the Malaysian on a thin brown paper. Bauchi would have loved to be here.
The way she worked with her hand rolling up the joint was like a professional, I was amazed.
“What if your folks find out?”
“Dad never comes up and mum kicked the bucket a long time ago, so we are safe, young man.”
She smoked for a little while before passing the blunt. It was smooth and calming.
“The beauty about SK over the common weed is that SK doesn’t smell much, it will probably never be perceived outside this room,” she said.
“Who taught you how to smoke?”
“My boyfriend,” she replied.
She asked again about what evil had befallen my face and I told her. She told me about her dad and his mistresses. She told me about her boyfriend and how she loved him. She also said she had been deflowered by her uncle in her toilet during one of the holidays. She was 14.
I told her about Hanatu and My parents, then as the SK hit deeper, I told her about Bauchi and we laughed. We got so high that we talked without really hearing each other.
I felt no pain as she had promised. It was dark when her driver drove me back to the Estate. Just before I left her to sleep, she had kissed me on my broken face, telling me jokes were the only way she knew how to hide pain. That she was sorry that I was attacked.
Just when I was getting to believe her, she said “Sykes, loser!”
