I had a little problem with my system yesterday, and in the course of fixing the problem a thought came to me,
for how long have i been using this system
how many faults has it developed since then ?

So i thought of throwing it open to laptop users in the house.....
state your specs...any problems......how old is it.

Mine is Dell Inspiron N5040
4gb ram, 500gb harddrive which i later changed to 640gb, core i3
I bought it around november 2011
the speakers are bad now - hoping to change it someday

But it is still alive and serving me....infact it is 3 yrs and some days old.

how old is your laptop?? What make?? What are the specs?? Got any problems??

10 years in September.

Acer Aspire 5610 aka travelmate

Intel Centrino Duo, 2GB ram

15" 1280 x 800 LCD screen

Intel GMA 950 256mb shared memory graphics

~70 - 140 GB Drive (Never cared to check total capacity)

Windows Vista Home Edition
Laptop was owned by Dad for 5 years then passed down after some months of inactivity. Plays DVD, HD video, low end games and browses without hiccups so see no need for upgrades.

Repairs made sofar:
Dead screen

System is so old now its starting to fall apart; My palm rest's cracked, some buttons've scraped off, fan's shifted from position, screws fall from nowhere, battery lasts only 10 minutes and speakers're dead. Waiting till system gives up life complete before changing to something modern.

You can still revive and have fun with it by installing linux distros on it.

Try ubuntu or linux mint or puppy

I think older laptops serve well and last longer. There is this HP celeron processor released in 2002 bought as toks 5yrs ago, till today it remains most reliable, having bought and used another two that spoiled just like that, this HP continues to serve no major repairs have been done still the same battery that last like an hour now.

Yeah sometimes quality may be compromised to lower cost, with the fall in laptop prices nowadays.

well, my very first laptop was a dv4000 hp pavillion which my dad bought for me 4days after my waec in 2006, It was a beauty to behold. I remember watching all night of a thousand laugh series and so many holly/nollywood movies, with ini as my favorite actress then.
It is in indeed one of the most memorable part of my teenage life.

Then in 2009, my uncle got me an alienware m17x which was slick and heavy, I gamed on this laptop like there was no tomorrow, I played pes 2009 master league which increased my love for sport and a whole lot of other awesome games. Then I gave it to my brother in 2011.

In 2011 september or so, I bought an hp dv6000 laptop which was stolen in my hostel in 2012.

In 2012 I got another hp g6 laptop I'd no problem with it when tsunami struck a couple of months ago. My hdd died without any prior symptoms or sign I lost over 500gb worth of data, replaced it and still working fine till date.

A lady gaming that's interesting...

you were just changing laptop like cloth or foot wear.

I hope you've not thrown that "dead" 500gb hdd away because
you can still recover the files in it oooo.

Saps your data?? Are you sure you don't have too many programs that updates automatically anytime you are connected to the internet, they could be the culprits,

try checking the programs that you have installed and disable their automatic updates.

Also your windows updates too might be guzzling data by downloading automatically. Change the settings to manual (so it downloads only on your request)..

And by the way..you are not too young to use laptop o..I don't understand why you mentioned your age...o or is that the laptop's age ??
