Dolphins football club is based in port harcourt. they are one of the traditional strongholds of Nigerian football. last season they were runners up in the federations cup.

they have moved into a close camp at Omagwa, a town outside Port Harcourt, to perfect their strategies ahead of an expanded Super 4 competition.

The team had their first training on Monday morning at the practice pitch of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

All but one of the expected players turned up for the session with midfielder, Emeka Atuloma being the only absentee.

“We have a full camp now,” Sunday Rotimi said.

“Only Atuloma has not come but from his last conversation with us, we expect him in today (Monday).”

All coaches were part of the training session including head coach Stanley Eguma, who oversaw proceedings.

The team will train at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium until Thursday when they move to Abuja to take part in the Super 4 against Kano Pillars, Enyimba, Warri Wolves, the U23 and U20 national teams

the drem team:

National U-23 men’s football team coach, Samson Siasia, has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation for helping organising top grade matches while expressing the team’s readiness to play against Tunisia and other teams in the Super Six tournament billed for Abuja. The Dream Team will play their first game against Tunisia on January 24 and then again on January 28 before they return to the country the next day.

They will also take part in an invitational tournament with the Flying Eagles U20 team and the four clubs that will represent Nigeria in this year’s CAF competitions – Kano Pillars, Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Dolphins. “We have been waiting for opportunities like these to help us differentiate the boys from the men, and these games – the Tunisia international friendlies and the Super 6 – will give us that opportunity to do just that,” he said.

“Time is not our friend, so any opportunity we have will be adequately utilised for us to get a quality team for the country. Like I always say, building a team from the scratch is work in progress.” Siasia added that the games will help select the players for the forthcoming All Africa Games and 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers

Nigeria U-20 team defeated NDC Warriors 6-0 in a friendly game played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kadunaon Tuesday.

Doubles from Prince Aggrey and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi inspired Garba Manu’s side to a comprehensive victory as they fine tune strategies for the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal.

Aggrey opened the scoring for the Flying Eagles in the 13th minute before Ifeanyi scored from the spot after stand-in skipper, Taiwo Awoniyi was fouled in the penalty area by the Warriors.

Ya'u Hassan got the third goal in the 68th minute after nodding home a free kick from Wasiu Jimoh. Aggrey completed his brace few minutes later following an assist from Abdullahi Alfa.

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi converted another spot kick after substitute Obinna Nwobodo was fouled in the box before substitute Gabriel completed the route in added time.

The Flying Eagles will participate in the NPFL Super Six tournament which begins in Abuja on January 24

Re: Glo Super 6 Tourney: Best of Nigerian Football. by robosky02(m): 3:48pm On Jan 21, 2015
Five things we expect to see at this year's Super 6 tournament.

1. Made in Naija Football at last: Since the league ended in November, we have tried to distract ourselves with some footballing action going on elsewhere in the world including the African Cup of Nations which we somehow could not qualify for. This is why for some local football lovers, this could not have come any sooner. Yes, it is only a pre season tournament and yes it is hardly a trophy to break one's head for but the reality is that football is back, our football is back. After this ten day tournament, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup follows soon after and then shortly after our League season starts. Our football, our own football is back.

2. How the new boys look: The big teams Kano Pillars, Enyimba and Warri Wolves have all been active in the market in the past couple of weeks, negotiating and snapping up players they believe will improve their teams as they embark on their domestic and continental tasks in the coming season. We will see Godspower Aniefiok and Tony Edjomareigwe feature for Pillars while Chima Uluocha one of the Federations Cup winners' new signings will be at the heart of the Enyimba's defence. Crown's Onyekachi Okafor most likely will be leading the line for 2nd runner up Warri Wolves with Gbolahan Salami having completed a move to Serbia last week and we even have the chance to see what Dolphins who have shut the world from their activities are up to. It is too early to tell how they will fare for their new clubs but we will be seeing them in their new colours as well as how the coaches hope to set them up.

3. Alex Iwobi: Alex Iwobi may not be a name that rings a bell among the Nigeria's footballing public but surely his uncle Austin Jay Jay Okocha does. The 18 year old opted to play for Nigeria despite representing England at the Under 17 and the Under 18. One of the key players in Arsene Wenger's Under-21 side and is believed to be near a first team breakthrough, Iwobi's pedigree has gone ahead of him and expectations are rocket high. We all would be watching to see this winger who is said to be comfortable on both flanks play for Samson Siasia's Under-23 Team. Whether he can dazzle and take the world by storm like his Uncle in the near future we shall see but we are eager for some foretaste beginning this weekend.

4. How ready the teams are: Each of the six teams invited for the tournament all have continental tasks ahead of them in the very near future. Premier League Champions for the third straight year, Kano Pillars will be hoping to transfer their dominance on the domestic front into the Champions League where they must overcome Al-Malakia of Sudan. The other Nigerian representative Enyimba of Aba face Benin side Buffles du Borgous. Wolves and Dolphins face RC Bobo of Burkina Faso and Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea in the CAF Confederations Cup. The two junior teams, the Under-20 and the Under-23 sides also have tricky fixtures. Garba Manu's Under-20 side are getting set for the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal while Samson Siasia's Under-23 side are gunning for a place at the forthcoming all African games and these competitive fixtures will help access how ready these teams are and how much work needs to be done.

5. Our New Referees: While the rest of us were enjoying the holidays at our vacation spots, the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick sent two batches of Nigerian Referees to the UK for trainings and exposure. The referees are long back in the country but we are yet to see them demonstrate what they have learnt at these trainings and the Super Six offers an excellent opportunity. A lot has been said of the level of officiating in the league and we trust that this begins a new day for match officiating. The stakes are higher for them now especially after the efforts by the Football governing body to make these trainings happen.
Kano Pillars will face Dolphins of Port Harcourt in the first match while Enyimba play the flying Eagles and Warri Wolves tackle the Under-23 Team. All the matches are live on SuperSport.

Warri Wolves storm Abuja on Friday for Super Six:

The Seasiders will depart for the Federal Capital Territory on Friday for the Nigeria Premier League pre-season tournament

Nigeria Premier League outfit, Warri Wolves have said they will be touching Abuja on Friday to compete in the 2015 Super Six tournament.

The Seasiders billed to represent the country in this year’s Caf Confederation Cup will be going with 35 players and 10 officials with the aim of emerging as champions after a second place finish in their last outing beating Kano Pillars and Bayelsa United before losing to Enyimba.

In a statement made available to media, media officer Etu Moses said the squad is a mixture of stale and fresh legs and are in high spirit to perform very well.

"We are leaving Warri for Abuja on Friday with 35 players and 10 officials for the Super Six,” Etu said.

"Our players are well relaxed having played some local teams here but they are very excited that they will playing against the under 20 and under 23 as they believe that these matches will prepare them well for the task ahead.”

He also revealed that the head for Shagamu and Ibadan after the competition to play some warm up games to correct lapses noted in the Super Six.

The much awaited Glo Premier League pre-season tournament tagged ‘Super Six’ kicks-off this weekend at the main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium with the Nigeria champions, Kano Pillars and Dolphins of Port Harcourt set for the opening cracker.

The event, which will serve as dress rehearsal for Nigerian clubs going for continental competitions is put together by the League Management Company (LMC). Apart from Pillars and Dolphins, other participating teams are defending champions, Enyimba, Warri Wolves, as well as the U-23 and U-20 national teams.

The competition is aimed at helping the continental campaigners and the national teams who have crucial qualifiers ahead to do the nation proud in their respective campaign. But the Abuja soccer fans and teeming supporters of the participating teams would not miss the value of their times as all the teams will bring to bear their soccer skills and strengths with the hope of emerging victorious at the end of the week-long soccer fiesta.

Coach Samson Siasia-led Dream Team V1 (U-23) are bookmakers favourites to stake a claim to the title because of their tactical and physically fitness to deal with any challenge.

The U-20 squad, the Flying Eagles, who stormed Abuja on Thursday from Kaduna for the tournament, are seen as the best Nigeria’s national team ever assembled. They are well motivated and ready to upset their bigger opponents in this competition if they can defend well and maintain their tactical discipline. They have been in camp for a very long time and have the arsenal to be contenders.

League champions, Kano Pillars are perhaps, one of the strongest sides in the tournament. The team has in their arsenal a mixture of experienced and young talents recruited for the 2015 CAF Champions League and premier league campaigns and this could be a perfect opportunity for them to signal their readiness for the task ahead.

Last year winner, Enyimba International of Aba will be led by the indomitable Chinedu Udoji on the pitch and Kadiri Ikhana in the technical box. On their part, Warri Wolves have a big hole to fill with the exit of Gbolahan Salami. It remains to be seen how they perform but they need to be at their best to do well.

Dolphins are traditionally strong on teamwork and if they can keep their discipline in their first two games, they have a chance of winning the tournament.

Stars to watch at Super 4 tournement

National U-20 and FC Porto player, Chidera Ezeh
Abuja will come alive today as the season curtain raiser, the Glo Premier League Super 4 (Invitational) kicks off. NPL champions Kano Pillars, Super 4 defending champions Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Dolphins will be joined by the national U-23 and U-20 in the ten day tournament inside the main bowl of National stadium Abuja.

Some of the best players in the domestic league will be in attendance but here are the five players who will be the cynosure of all eyes.

Godspower Aniefiok (Kano Pillars)
Aniefiok’s last season’s performances for Akwa United did not go unnoticed by the Nigerian champions. After a tussle between Pillars, Enyimba and Warri Wolves, the young player opted to sign for Kano Pillars a couple of weeks ago. All eyes will be on this lanky upcoming midfield dynamo as he looks to exert his influence in the middle of the park for the league champions. He boasts of a good vision, an excellent ball passing ability as well as knowing how to find the back of the net.

Alex Iwobi (Arsenal FC and Under-23):
Samson Siasia’s strong Under-23 side got even better with the arrival of Arsenal Under-21 Winger Alex Iwobi. Followers of the English game might not have seen him in action as he is yet to break into the senior team but Arsene Wenger has named him on the substitutes bench a couple of times this season. Iwobi also comes into this tournament with another pedigree ahead of him. He is the nephew to former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha. Now, your ears have lit up, he will be lining up for the Nigeria Under-23 team.

Chima Uluocha (Enyimba International):
Uluocha was one of the big moves we saw during the break with the Abia Warriors captain dumping Abia’s Red corner for the blue corner. Kadiri Ikhana spotted Uluocha after Abia Warriors 3-3 draw with Enyimba and quickly settled the move. Enyimba have the likes of Chinedu Udoji, Emma Anyanwu and Uche John but it is likely that we will see Uluocha playing a key role in Enyimba’s Super 4 campaign.

Chidera Ezeh (FC Porto and Under-21):
The 2013 Under-17 World Championships saw the revelation of such talents as Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ezeh among others. While English Premier League Champions Manchester City snapped up Iheanacho, Portuguese side FC Porto went for Ezeh. The attacking midfielder who turned 17 last October is currently honing his skills with the youth team of the Portuguese Giants who cannot wait to offer him a contract. Garba Manu has invited the youngster and the Super 4 tournament is another opportunity for us to see this youngster whose heroics at the cadet mundial last year brought him to the limelight.

Onyekachi Okafor (Warri Wolves):
Crown FC had a season to forget in the Glo Premier League last season and eventually getting themselves relegated at the end of the season but one bright spark of that troubled season was Onyekachi Okafor. The striker gave a good account of himself nonetheless and it was no surprise when Warri Wolves signed him as a replacement for Serbia bound Gbolahan Salami. He will be key to their domestic and Continental aspirations. His move seems a good one and Paul Aigbogun will be hoping he hits the ground running.

FLYING EAGLES 2-0 ENYIMBA FC

Despite playing with 10 men for over 30 minutes in the second half, the national U-20 team showed they were really prepared as dispatched tournament’s reigning champions Enyimba 2-0 with goals coming off the boots captain Musa Mohammed and substitute Musa Yahaya in the 62th and 90th minutes.

Coach Manu Garba tutored lads were the better side and even dictated the pace of the game. Enyimba’s undoing was having their players not willing to resume to camp on time due to last season’s unpaid wages.

Enyimba will face Warri Wolves on Monday as the two teams will be out to record their first win of the tournament while Flying Eagles will be hoping to extend their lead with a tough tie against Kano Pillars also on Monday.

KANO PILLARS 2-0 DOLPHINS

Sai Masugida kicked off the Super Four with a mission statement to prove critics wrong as they overpowered Dolphins 2-0 in the first game of the competition.

The Port Harcourt based side had issues with assembling their players on time for the tournament with their old players too insisting on getting their pay for last season but they had a rethink and travelled with the team for a brief camping in the outskirt of Port Harcourt.

Pillars scored two quick fire goals inside the opening ten minutes through two of their newly acquired players, Samuel Tswanya who Christian Obiozor and the tie ended that way despite the attacking forays of Dolphins in the second half.

Pillars will have their hands full on Monday when they face the rampaging Flying Eagles while Dolphins will hope to seek a facelift against the U23s on the same day.

DREAM TEAM VI 2-1 WARRI WOLVES

Decimated national U-23 side still managed to record their first win of the Super 6 after they piped Warri Wolves 2-1 in the third match of the day at the Abuja National Stadium.

The Seasiders tried all the tricks in their armory but they were unable to match the flair of the national U-23 team. Augustine Amutu went ahead to hurt the club that pays his wages when he netted the opener for the Dream Team in the third minute but Gift Atulewa evened the tie in the 49th minute before the back breaker from Baker Ebiabowei in the 52nd minute restored the lead of the U-23 national team.

Wolves will however seek redemption on Monday when they clash against Enyimba while Dream Team V1 will tackle Dolphins hoping to extend their impressive start.
