Hmm, everywhere we go now, we hear his name in songs, news and gossips. We hear him on our radio sets and see him on our television. He’s made it hasn’t he? He’s now a role model to their children; they wish he was their son, brother, and cousin. The desperate girls wish he was their husband, the responsible girls wish he was their fiancé, and the irresponsible ones wish he was their boyfriend. Everyone wants to identify with him now because they all want to go with him to wherever he is heading. But one child decided to investigate and find out where he’s come from before joining the troop and guess what he found out? Read carefully
The story has it that he dwelt in a community where all kinds of people could be found. They all gave themselves to study of whatever could make people become better in no distant time. It came to a time where they had to embark on a journey to the desert in search of hidden knowledge. They built themselves an aircraft, as they were many talented brothers and sisters amongst them. As a matter of fact, such times were times when every talented fellow would come and display what he or she carries and would be recognized for it.
So they finished building the aircraft and took off to the desert. After some days in the desert, some people started falling home sick, some dehydrated, some tired, and some became liabilities. Well, to some extent, the others bore with them as not everyone had the same strength. But one person’s case became an issue no one could bear any longer, and that person was THE BOY.
There had been no rain in the desert for days as expected so everyone brought out their water bottles and satisfied their thirst with the water therein while praying for rain so they could refill their bottles. As God would have it, just when they were almost out of water, behold, it rained. They all refilled their bottles before the rain ceased. It continued that way for as long as they remained in the desert. Some people became very economical with usage of their water as no one knew when the next rainfall will be. Some others averagely economized usage of theirs while other people made sure they satisfied their thirst whenever they drank water. One of such people was THE BOY.
The boy had no sense of management. He always hoped it was going to rain before he ran out of water. And it worked for him for a while until one day when his water finished and there was no rain. He became thirsty and begged some of the people who were there with him in the desert. The charitable ones managed to give him for a while before they started seeing him as a pest and a parasite. The stingy ones wouldn’t even pay any attention to him while the ones who had scriptural knowledge told him about the parable of the ten virgins, unintentionally suggesting to him what he was to expect for being foolish enough to run out of water in the middle of a desert when he could managed his water and prevented his present situation. Some mocked him, scorned him, laughed at him, and did all sorts of things to him that made him feel like giving up on life before thirst kills him.
In his frustration and rejection, he started digging a hole in that desert; it seemed bizarre, just like Jesus Christ bending down to write on the ground when confronted with the case of the adulterous woman. And all the while the boy was digging, he was also weeping. He had no purpose for that task. That was just his way of letting out his misery and depression. His hole got bigger and deeper by the day and some people thought; maybe he’s planning to commit suicide by burying himself in this grave he is digging. Some others said; he is not able to make use of his mind, that’s why he is unable to figure out a way to get himself out of this mess. As a matter of fact, if he was able to make use of his mind, he wouldn’t even get himself into this mess in the first place. All these words got the boy more and more frustrated, depressed and miserable. And it also got him thinking that he was nothing like the others in the desert. Truly, he was nothing like the others. He thought so lowly of himself and inferiority complex came in eventually.
But after a while, something happened that changed the face of everything in the desert. The hole the boy dug had grown into a pit. Everyone had to be very careful with their steps whenever they got there to avoid falling into it. And this made people resent him the more because it seemed like he was planning to do evil to them by getting them to fall into the pit he had dug. That wasn’t his intention, but the bitterness in his heart found expression on his face which made it really look like he was planning to perpetrate evil.
It had not still rained after a long while and most people in the desert had almost run out of water, even the best managers. But as the good Lord would have it, just before everyone had nothing to drink anymore, it rained heavily. Before now, the boy had thrown away his water bottle. So he had nothing to store water in when it rained. While everyone else was filling their bottles with water, he opened his mouth wide open to have a drink of the rain water at least. It rained for a very long while, and everyone’s water bottle was filled with water to last till the next rainfall except the boy, who had thrown away his bottle.
When the rain ceased, the boy said to himself, maybe this is the way it was meant to be. Since I’ve had my last drink, let me go back to my spot and await my death, for it was obvious from the heavy outpour of the rain that it will take a longer while than before to rain again. He left with much more frustration while the others just gazed at him and wondered if he was cursed or something.
But on going back to his spot, guess what he found, the pit he had dug was full of water! The pit had stored up as much of the rain water as its capacity could carry. Wow! The boy couldn’t believe his eyes. Everyone in the desert found out about this and couldn’t believe it too. The boy’s pit, which was later named THE BOY’S WELL’, became the talk of the desert. While the rest of the people were managing their water, the boy was satisfying his thirst, the same way he used to when he had no well full of water.
Later on, the people in the desert, who just couldn’t bear the thought of the boy, who was considered to be a mindless fellow, now owns a well started saying that the water in the boy’s well was dirty because it was sandy and of a different color from that which was stored in their bottles. Truth is, the water came from the same source, but the storage places were different. The water in the boy’s well was as unclean as water stored in in a well that is not cemented would be. The boy took in all that was said about his well as long as he had some to drink to his satisfaction whenever he was thirsty. But later on, something else happened.
After a very long while without rain, everyone ran short of water. I mean everyone in the desert except the boy, who still had enough water to last him even if there was no rain for a period of time equal to time from the the last rain till present. So it became very unbearable for others but they couldn’t ask for the boy’s water because the way they had treated him in the past. But then, it became more and more unbearable, so they all broke their silence and went to the boy for water. Because they were still too ashamed to ask him to help them out with water, they offered him money in exchange for the water they once called dirty. So the boy started what was more or less a pure water factory in the desert and became richer than everyone in the desert.
Later on, some people started thinking they should also own their own wells so that the boy won’t be the only one with water enough and to spare. Some others thought of starting a pure water factory as well, while the rest went to the boy and offered to be his employees.

It was such a nice idea to also own a well and wait for the next rainfall to fill it and either have enough water and to spare or start a pure water factory, but there was a problem. The boy was the only one who knew how to successfully dig a well in the desert. So they had to pay him to dig wells for them. And there were jobs for those who offered to be his employees and enough money to pay them. The boy eventually became very rich and famous that even the people in the urban areas who were having difficulties with their businesses relocated to the desert to begin a water factory. And the boy remained the only worthy and reliable desert well digger. He was later honored as business tycoon of his time and now, he’s a role model to their children; they wish he was their son, brother, and cousin. The desperate girls wish he was their husband, the responsible girls wish he was their fiancé, and the irresponsible ones wish he was their boyfriend.
