There should be a law governing the movement of trailer in Nigeria. The rate at which it causes havoc to the society is so terrible. I remember when i got admission into lagos State Polytechnic, my parent never wanted me to go, u know y? It is because of the road i.e the road that leads to d school, odogunyan ikorodu. There is no day that trailer doesnt have accident. My bestie escaped death by a trailer on her way to school.
Just this january alone, there are so many people that have lost their lives, their love ones .
The FG should look into this matter.
Someone posted some months back that Jonathan visits Nairaland, i dont know how true dis is but i hope he sees this post and work on it.

I Agree

I agree too OP has said something good, but will the law makers and enforcement agencies agree?
A country where the NSE boss is campaigning for total ban of Pornographic sites instead of investing in ICT egg heads to locate the location where Boko haram's video is uploaded from, use his security tools and personnels at his beck and calls to wipe out crime and terrorism. What has porn got to do with terrorism and crime watch (mind you I am not campaigning for or/and against pornography).

A country where the law enforcement officials collect bribes and won't do their jobs. Where VIO and FRSC can't check the drivers of these trucks for high degree of expertise, psychological and mental awareness, state of mind and health, drug use and abuse, driving ethics and manners, and inspect their vehicle for road-worthiness?
They won't even look at this article and per adventure they do, they'll just sweep it under the rug because they fly always and none of them have been victim of the road rage these truck drivers engage in. I wonder how they think over there when they get the power I wonder how they prioritize things when money and power is involved.

Nigeria a country where the tail of a dog wags the dog. I weep for thee.

OP, we have laws regulating all vehicular movement in Nigeria already. It is not the movement of the trucks that cause havoc and accidents, rather it is the road condition, truck condition, competency of the driver and or other road users. Trucks haul goods everywhere in the world at all times of the day. In Nigeria unfortunately, a lot of the trucks on the highway shouldn't be there in the first place (most are in a terrible state); some of the drivers were tested and passed by a fellow driver while they were mates and never subjected themselves to a proper driving test; the roads don't do them any favors too. Then other road users cause accidents for these trucks as well. I have witnessed where a Mitsubishi Gallant overtook a truck and slammed on his brakes immediately because of a pothole. The truck slammed into the rear of the Gallant and nearly wrecked other cars around it. If I had not witnessed it, someone might come out to say the truck driver intentionally ran into the Gallant. People often blame accidents involving trucks on the truckers even when it is no fault of theirs.

Our leadership is driven by bribery and corruption. They take some millions fron truck drivers union and that is it.
long distance cargo can be supplied by rail and then the truck drivers go to load and move withing the Zone by night to deliver. And if they must drive during the day, they must inform road saftey and their men will be monitoring the road for free access.
On the long run, the whole of Naija need to be uplifted.

Delishpot, your idea is well and good but please tell me where that is done anywhere in the world. Trucks haul goods all over the country all over the world. It will be almost impossible to do what you just suggested. The only places I know trucks are regulated is within city limits. They have free rein on the highway. Like I said earlier, the laws are there to regulate them. The trucks should be fit as well as the drivers and the roads they ply.

Nigeria as a whole needs total overhauling, infact if we start discussing any issue now, it will affect all sectors because corruption is everywhere. The Nigerian problem is like a trojan virus that has already affected system files and the only cure left is to format that system and do a recovery. No known antivirus can cure it, it will only sedate it for a while.

Nigerian drivers and pedestrians self need psychological and brain damage test this trucks when on motion can't just slam brakes like normal cars and instead of you to let them pass, drivers want to quickly maneuver infront of them, passengers wan hurriedly cross highways instead of the bridge its better they hit what ever is infront head on than braking instantly which can cause loss of control and eventually multiple accidents.

Drivers let's drive with caution and remember you are the only sane driver all other drivers aren't.

Pedestrians for the love of God take it that every car you see on the road has brake failure so ensure you use the overhead bridge or always run when crossing

True. Na wa o. Some times when I think of it, I wonder if we can truely become a wholesome nation again. Because, the journey to redemption is far o. Plus a lot if sacrifice will be made by all which I think most Nigerians will not easily be influenced to make.

I remember Fashola addressed this issue in his Lagos Traffic Law. It was obeyed briefly then and our roads were safe. Only for the attention to be diverted to Okada while trucks are allowed to continue with their nuisance. That the law will be visited again!
