Can Online Polls Be Considered To Reflect The Outcome Of Elections In Nigeria ? by Medley(m): 10:08am On Jan 28, 2015
Many online polls have been brought up by some groups and the result have shown interesting result that got many people wondering, and sometimes the people that pilots them are in chagrin because of the result.

I am none partisan to any political party, but i think the following should be reasons why the online polls in the political atmosphere of Nigeria may not really be a respresention of the wishes of the electorates at the polls.

1. The information of the online polls are not well circulated, and only a few people who fortutiously come in contact with them are able to vote and hence pass the information to those that they know support their candidate.

2. The group or body overseeing the poll are not trusted and hence many people refuse to participate in them.

3. Majority of Nigerians are still not internet enabled or are unable to browse the internet and sometime the vote can't be processed usiing mobile devices.

4. The corruption that is percieved of everything in Nigeria even when that may not be the case.

5. When there is a call for a new government from the incumbent the people craving for the change are always stronger in ensuring that they prove their points and make their voice heard, and so they are always ready to follow up and search for any avenue to do so; and one of this avenue is the online poll.

6. Those that believe they have the edge over the other party or candidate are not in any urge to follow up online polls because they have the notion that since they are the incumbent they can't lose the election.

7. Only a very handful of the total registered voters partake in the online polls, if atleast 40-60% can partake the outcome would definitely reflect on the votes at the polls, but in most cases the people that partake in them are not even up to 1% of the total registered voters and some of them may not be eligible to vote due to age limitations, fear of violence,or no PVC.

Do you believe online polls in Nigeria reflect the final outcome of election in Nigeria, also buttress your answer with any reason/s?
