Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint Apps Now Free On Android Tablets by Civory(m): 1:47pm On Jan 29, 2015
Microsoft has made its popular Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps accessible for free on
Android tablets on Thursday, demonstrating the newest step in its effort to get countless
mobile users as possible using its software.

It also unveiled an application for its popular Outlook email program to function on Apple’s
iPhone and iPad, wanting to entice the millions of customers acquainted with Outlook from
their work PCs.

The new unveilings are the hottest strategies in Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella’s
effort to snatch back the lead in the campaign for mobile customers, where Microsoft has
tumbled behind Apple and Google.

Last March, Nadella broke with years of tradition by unveiling a free, touch-friendly
version of Office for Apple’s iPad, before such software even existed for Microsoft’s
Windows gadgets.

By giving away its industry-standard Office applications on Apple’s popular iOS and
Google’s Android OSs, Microsoft is considering building up a base of consumers which it
can afterwards sway to sign up for Office 365, the full, Internet-based version of Office
starting at $7 per month for personal consumers.

Microsoft has been giving test versions of the Office applications on Android for almost 3
months, but Thursday denotes the first day they are accessible as finished products from
the online Google Play application store.

Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the key elements of the company’s top-selling
Office suite of apps, have been a smash on Apple’s mobile gadgets, with eighty million
downloads since last March, as stated by Microsoft. The company hopes to roll out new,
touch-friendly versions of its Office applications for Windows gadgets later in 2015 when it
unveils the Windows 10 OS.

The new Outlook application, based on a popular application made by Acompli, which
Microsoft acquired in December, will let iPhone and iPad consumers much stress-free
ways of networking email to calendars and work with file attachments. Microsoft is also
rolling out a trial version of the Outlook application for Android users.
