Knowledge, they say, is power. If you do not know how to find people online, how’d you
know what people can find about you online? Whether you are looking for yourself or a
friend, here are 5 ways to find out anything, about anyone, online:

Include all you know into Google
No matter how little you know about the person you are in search of, your search starts
with Google. And it should, since Google is a great tool – particularly when you know just
how to use it. But if you don’t know anything in particular to identify the person you are
looking for, like their email address, it is better to avoid the elaborate search hacks and go
directly to including keywords. Open up Google and write in everything you know about
the person in keyword patter; for instance, “Jane Lagos Student.” Even if it’s just their first
name, keywords associated with their occupation, marital status, locality and institution
will probably pop up social networks or other recognizable results.

Use Facebook’s People Search
If no social networks come up in your first Google search, there may be need to go into
the social networks themselves. Facebook is one of the most popular social networks, and
its search engine is robust, so you should perhaps start from there. Facebook’s People
Search allows the searching of people by filling in one or more search boxes: Name,
hometown, current city, high school, mutual friend, college or university, employer, and
graduate school. If you remember one or two of these stuffs about whom you’re looking
for, you can confine your search and then surf through the picture results. If your subject
lacks social media presence, try finding their friends and family; it is likely they are
concealing their account under a fake name. If you don’t have an idea who their friends
and family are, and you have their full name, apply a free people search such as .... to
find out relatives…and seek them out.

Make connections
A person’s data points mean nothing except they can be linked to other data points to
form an individual’s online presence. When you have a number of facts about your subject,
you will need to use your head to make connections and complete what’s missing. For
instance, if you have your subject’s name, job, and location, you can possibly discover
their LinkedIn profile. On their LinkedIn profile, they have perhaps listed their
undergraduate degree and when they graduated from university, which means you can
work back to front to decipher about how old they are.

Remember folks are not that creative
If you can discover someone’s username, Twitter account, or personal e-mail, you may
have hit a jackpot. Most times, people are not that creative when it comes to blending
usernames or passwords, so they have probably reused that username several times over.
Start by inputting their username into Google, but also search through social networks,
forums like Nairaland, and blogs for any old comments or posts.

Pictures are worth more than a thousand words
People most times reuse usernames, passwords, and social media profile photos. Grab
their profile picture from their Facebook or Twitter account and put it into a reverse image
lookup like .... What this reverse image lookup does is to scan the image and then produce all other
occurrences of that pic that it finds on the net. Google Images too can do a reverse image
search. Go to Google Images, click on the camera icon in the search box, and upload the
pic you wish to search.
