In as much as I agree with ur point but how well have we done with the privatisation?...We are still experiencing same thing, bills has been raised and yet no light..If it is workable that is still yet to been seen..My take, u only copy a success story and from the look of things the privatisation of the power sector in Nigeria is yet to be a success..

We r just experiencing some teething problems, we r gonna come around in a very little while....South Africa know a good policy when the see now & equally know that experiencing little qualms on the way its a normal thing. Thanx

You need to ask some of your southie friends on Nairaland what they have been experiencing under SA power giant Eskom

Do u stay in SA? Obviously u don't, hence d need to "ask our southie friends what they've been experiencing". Yes we've asked and yes their power supply has no atom of semblance to d epileptic power supply of Naija. 2hours power cut in a week? That's like heaven to Nigerians and believe me, that thought alone will make nigerians shed tears of joy. As I'm typing this now, there has not been light in my place for 2days. Ok let's just assume that d southie power cut is 2hrs a day, not a 2hrs week. That's still too good to be true. Imaagine Nigerians having 22hrs light in a day. Choi!

hakddream:
to know that you are not alone.

Wrong. U don't need to drag SA into our mess. We are alone in this. SA generates over 40,000MW but since 1999, naija has ingested a whooping $35billion into d power sector. And how much was generated?

A meager 2,500MW.

So as u can see, d indices are clearly different. Stop comparing apples n oranges. Ur argument is akin to a kid 'justifying' his failure by saying that d guy who usually comes 1st in class, came 2nd that term.

hakddream:
Even our 'advanced' South Africa is facing power rationing crisis......
What exactly are d figures of this 'power rationing crisis'? U make it look like 'power rationing crisis' is felt by both nigerians n south africans on an equal basis. We like facts. Give us d facts.
Let's do a lil math here:
2hrs cut a day = 22hrs supply
So in 1week = 22 x 7 = 154hrs
No of hrs in a week = 24 x 7 = 168hrs.
Efficiency = 154/168 ~ 92%

If we're to go by 2hrs cut a week (as d southies here have said),
Efficiency = 166/168 ~ 99%
And u're here saying SA is with us, we're not alone. Are u michael jackson?

hakddream:
I think Africans are just waking up to the situation at hand, the population is rising at a dramatic rate thus suffocating the dilapidated infrastructures in place.

More sophistry.

hakddream:
This is a revolution by NIgeria as the state can not monopolize a huge and capital intensive service sector......
There is no revolution ogbeni. And yes Naija can monopolize huge and capital intensive service sectors if embezzlement is minimized to d barest minimum. There's no ground-breaking reform. Have u seen any statement from d SA govt saying anything about imitating our 'power sector reform'? Do u honestly believe that SA is geared to copy d footsteps of naija in power reform? The statement by d minister is just one of those laughable political famzing and if someone like Prof Soludo were to counter him with facts, he'll cower in defeat. If SA wants to privatize their power sector, is it Naija that invented privatization of public sectors? What exactly are we role-modeling?

hakddream:
You'll feel the effect of the reform with time, it is not a rapid affair just as the telecommunication reform that you are enjoying today wasn't a day success......

Which reform exactly? By who? GEJ? U can't reform anything in naija if u don't probe d corrupt mofos who loot public funds. And on what basis can u compare telecommunication reform with power sector reform? Enlighten me pls. Like someone noted above, GEJ himself said in 2011 that 4years in office is enough to fix d problem of power in naija; that if he doesn't fix it, then he can't fix anything.
Lemme also give more promises made by GEJ.

"In August 2010, barely 4months after he succeeded Umaru Yar’Adua, President GEJ launched d Road Map for Power Sector Reform in which he outlined his plans to effectively tackle challenges of electricity supply in Nigeria.
The president claimed that with d road map........d problem of power outages in the country WOULD END by December, 2012.
Under d programme, Mr. Jonathan said, a Super Transmission Network would be implemented while 5000 megawatts (MW) would be generated by international oil companies. He added that there would be active exploitation of hydro-nuclear and coal power, a new gas policy, constitution of two presidential committees on power, the reconstitution of d boards and membership of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, and privatisation of PHCN.
About 8months later, while running as d standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2011 presidential election, Mr. Jonathan enunciated the Power Road Map, this time under the broader Transformation Agenda. The.......President promised to provide more power to Nigerians in the earliest possible time and even set a minimum target of 16,000 MW which he said would be achieved by 2013.
Mr. Jonathan promised to rehabilitate all existing power generation, distribution and transmission assets to give a minimum of 6,000 MW of electricity, complete all National Integrated Power Projects, NIPP, to produce at least 4,000 MW by 2012 and harness alternative sources of energy such as coal, wind and solar to generate an initial 13,000 MW.
The president also assured that he would privatise power generation and distribution, concession transmission networks and construct new transmission network in 2011-2014 using the public-private partnership model."

This is 2015, what is d current power supply? GEJ has generated about 1,400MW in his 5yrs in office. Compare that with d promises he 'toasted' us with. We're still hovering around 4,600MW (total), a far cry from d promised 16,000MW.
I like facts and figures and all rationalizations should be based on such. Give hard facts instead of just engaging in sophistry. U claimed to be enlightened and exposed but u can't see this minister's statement for exactly what it is: a worthless bag of excrement.
Damn polithiefians and their lies. And d annoying thing is that some remote-controlled brain-dead bigots would believe and defend any balderdash spewed by our loot-ocratic polithiefians

Kikikkkikkki, I laugh in Sesotho! South Africa imitating Nigeria on power model? Are you guys smoking your socks?

In anyway, when has privatisation become Nigeria designed model? By the way even if Eskom could be broke as hell, our power stability Will stay way above Nigeria's power supply. At its worst we get two hours cut in a week of power supply so far. Now copy that!

In which South Africa?.....l guess you are referring to either P.M. Bothas' South Africa or F. W. de Klarks' South Africa.......But not surely Jacob Zuma's South Africa.....where power is rationed with small end businesses and home owners all the worst for it.....
Even neighbouring Ghana ain't faring any better...
Nigerians need to keep abreast with goings-on around them and stop fixating themselves with wizkid and Davidos' beef....after all we are proudly heavily certificated.....
