There is an estimated 7.1 billion people currently
inhabiting the earth. One can only imagine where
the majority of these people live. Seven continents,
thousands of countries and thousands more
cultures and nationalities make it a little difficult to
track the amount of people that are in one
particular location. The Census Bureau does the
best possible job to keep track of the earth’s
population. Individually countries and cities try to
keep a tight grip on how many people are in their
domain for political and economic reasons. The
following list include some of the most populated
cities in the world. Some are prosperous due to
the large amount of people that contribute to city
or cities struggle to support the abundance of its
citizens.

TOKYO


Tokyo, Japan is one of the busiest cities in the
world. It is the capital of Japan. It has many
attractions like gardens, amusement parks and
clubs that keep tourist coming and the natives
occupied. Tokyo has the highest population of
people in the entire world. As with any heavily
populated city, traffic is a hassle. Including the
metro areas, there is 35 million people who
currently live in Tokyo.

NEW YORK CITY


New York City has been properly given the title
“the city that never sleeps”. There is no place like
New York and if you’ve ever been there you would
agree. New York City attracts people from all over
the world with its iconic skyline, its different
cuisines, and shopping areas. New York City’s
population has reached a new height of 8,405,837
people. Each of the cities five boroughs have
reported population gains. This rise in population
is due to a decline of people leaving the city and
the birth rate significantly being higher than the
death rate.

SAO PAULO

São Paulo is the largest city of Brazil. It is one of
the top 10 largest metropolitan areas in the world.
São Paulo is a global city with a strong influence
in the arts, entertainment, finance and commerce,
and the city hosts the largest gay pride parade in
the world. The current population of São Paulo is
11.4 million people. São Paulo is home of the
second largest stock exchange in the world making
the city an economic hub. São Paulo also has a
mixture of cultures which makes it an interesting
place to visit and live .

SEOUL

Seoul, officially known as the Seoul Special City, is
the capital and the largest city of South Korea.
Almost more than half the people in South Korea
live in the city of Seoul. Seoul is also home to
632,000 international residents. The total
population of Seoul, South Korea is now at 10.44
million. The population density in Seoul is 45,000
people per square mile. Seoul is rich with history,
and art that can be seen in its architecture and in
one of its 115 museums. Seoul is a
technologically advanced city which is a major
reason why people flock to it.

PARIS

Paris also known as the “city of lights” attracts
thousands of tourist every year. Its lavish fashion
boutiques, renowned cafes and monuments like
the Eiffel Tower are all reasons people want to
spend time in Paris. Paris is a bustling city that is
full of life and flavor. As the capital city of France,
the city is home to numerous government
buildings, but it is also home to quaint
cobblestone paved streets. Paris boast a
population of 10.5 million residents. If you plan on
moving overseas, consider Paris. Today, the
people who live in Paris and the surrounding areas
have a slightly higher than average income in
comparison with the rest of France. These people
also are largely diverse.

KARACHI

Karachi metro has an estimated population of over
23.5 million people. It has a population density of
more than 15,500 people per square mile. Karachi
is the largest and most populous metropolitan city
in Pakistan and the capital of Sindh province.
Located on the Arabian Sea, Karachi is also known
as the “City of Lights” and “The Bride of the
Cities.” It is the largest city with the highest
concentration of Muslims in the world. Karachi has
grown rapidly in the last few decades. Karachi was
previously the capital of Pakistan until Islamabad
was constructed.

SHANGHAI
Shanghai’s population clocks in at 20.6 million
people. 89.3% of the population is urban, and
10.7% is rural. It’s both a major financial center
and a global city and sits at the mouth of the
Yangtze River in the Yangtze River Delta of East
China. Known as the Pearl of the Orient and the
Paris of the East, Shanghai’s population surpassed
the entire population of nearby Taiwan as of 2013.
It has a population density of 9,700 people per
square mile. Shanghai also has an extensive
network of rivers, canals, lakes and streams, all of
which combines to create a perfect setting for a
large population. Shanghai has been one of the
fastest developing cities in the world for the last
twenty years, with double-digit growth nearly
every year since 1992.

MOSCOW

The official figure for Moscow currently stands at
11.5 million, but uncharted migration could push
the real number to as high as between 13 and 17
million, according to population experts. Moscow
is the capital city and easily the most populated
federal subject of Russia. Moscow is run by one
mayor, but the city is actually divided into 12
administrative okrugs and 123 districts. In 2012,
its territory expanded from 1,000 to 2,511 square
kilometers, which added an additional 233,000
people. Moscow has a density of 11,865 people
per square mile.
