Ribadu: Alleged N30trn Missing under Okonjo-Iweala Impossible

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu

Ndubuisi Francis in Abuja

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has stated that it was impossible for N30 trillion to be ‘missing’ from the nation’s treasury.

A one-time Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, had in an article alleged that “over N30 trillion is missing or stolen or unaccounted for, or simply mismanaged” under the watch of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Ribadu, in an interview with the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja said: “I was baffled and got deluded for anyone to say that N30 trillion got lost. I think we just have to look at what we earn as a country and what our budget had been in these few years, and see how possible it is and if everything we earned is not up to that within the period she has been the minister, which is about three to four years, (how can that be?)

``And for somebody to say that N30 trillion is missing is baffling, especially if you know what our budget is these years. We need to be careful to avoid more damage to our nation because there are certain things that when it comes out, it will never go back again,’’ he said

Ribadu stated that while working under former President Obasanjo, Okonjo-Iweala was the leader of the Economic Management Team and coordinated the economic policy of the administration effectively.

``I challenge anybody to say that she stole N1 at that time; we were all there. I was in charge of EFCC and I want to hear anybody say that she did this and that.

``And I followed her up till now; I think it is somehow uncharitable for someone to come out to say that such an amount of money was missing under her watch,’’ he said .

Ribadu, who is also the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, said it was unfortunate for such controversies but noted that Okonjo-Iweala was one of the most respected Nigerians with unimpeachable integrity.

He added that when he worked with her, she exhibited a nationalistic attitude that was not questionable and believed in any policy that could take Nigeria and its people high.

I asked this same question a few days ago when this controversy first started and just like Lamido Sanusi, I'm beginning to doubt me Soludo's qualifications. The dude is hilarious

PDP led government have proved to Nigerians that nothing is impossible to do when it comes to corruption and stealing.

Instead of the former EfCC czar to compel his agency to go to work by atleast investigating the allegations, he's here spewing thrash.

Well, am not surprised at all, afterall stealing is not coruption. But Thank God they've stolen enough, come may, their stealer-in-chief will be kicked back to otueke or be kicked into kirikiri.

Soludo is a sour loser. Ever since he switched to APGA and failed to get the governorship ticket, he has remained politically irrelevant. He's trying so hard to bring others down to his level.

$49 billion, $20 billion, $10.8 billon (from NNPC), N1.7 trillion (Illegal Subsidy payments), N21 billion (illegal donation), N10 billion (Allison's illegal flights), $49 billion per yr, N4bn presidential feeding, N2bn budgeted to build VP residence, $30bn spent on power, yet the country of over 170m Nigerians is still managing less than 3000MW of electricity, N10bn presidential air fleet maintanance, $470m scam cctv for FCT, N30tn from Soludo's recent discovery, $15m South Africa arm procurement scam deal plus the $5.7m, yet the names of the Nigerians involved where not mentioned but the Israeli's name was mentioned, $13m patience jonathan money laundering case, overbudgeted N117bn for 2nd Niger bridge as against a replica constructed for N29bn by the Lagos state government, N968bn security budget, yet Boko haram has been maiming people, ransacking communities and having the numbers of IDPs rise geometrically, N35.4m to feed Aso rock lion's, N20bn pension scam, Immigration job scam, yet the culprit minister involved is still serving and enjoying his loot from the scam recruitment exercise, pardoning of convicted criminals like Bode george and Alameyhsia, Tompolo buying warships in an insane clime like Nigeria, asides the billions of Naira lost to oil bunkering. Just name all the scams and misappropriation of funds under this government, you will weep for Nigeria. They steal in trillions of Naira, and convert them to dollars to make them look small.

I wonder how a youth like me, who has an unborn gneration, will comfortably thumbprint for the PDP and jeopardize the future of the unborn all because of bias and false PDP propaganda. Vote for change. After 6years with high revenue, nothing was achieved. How will something be achieved in 4years with less cash inflow?

GEJ should declare his assets to Nigerians and the world at large, so we can all see how lucrative politics in Nigeria has been. GEJ is a scam, and I dare anybody with superior logic to enlighten my ignorance that this present administration isn't a hoax.

The earlier we drop the bias about ethnicity, religion, age to focus our demand for quality leadership from a selfless leader, the better. If people don't see that this administration has failed woefully, and there's a need to try some other leader, then we will continue to wallow in abject poverty in this country. Poverty level in Nigeria has risen from 54% to 71%, youth unemployment from 9% to 50%, recurrent expenditure from 62% to 86%, national debt from $26bn to $70bn, whilst GDP growth has dropped from 11% to 6%, and excess crude account has dropped from $20bn to $2bn, petrol has risen from 65 to 87 temporarily (97), $1 has risen from N158 to N210.

Everything is wrong with Nigeria. Just everything is going wrong. Lets be wise and vote rightly without bias!!!

Nigeria lost over 2 billion dollars annually to oil theft during the Obasanjo administration. Oil theft and bunkering didn't strat under GEJ and it wouldn't end under him. Even if you elect Buhari tomorrow and he stay for 10 years, there will still be oil theft.
Soludo was speaking out of malice and he should respect himself.

Shell Nigeria loses 50,000 bpd to oil theft in '04
27 May 2005
Author: Tom Ashby
Country: All

LAGOS - Nigeria's largest oil producer, Royal Dutch Shell, lost about 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil to organised theft in 2004, roughly steady on the year before, it said in its annual report.

Extrapolated to the whole industry in Africa's largest oil producer, the Shell estimate indicates that Nigeria loses about 125,000 bpd, worth $2 billion a year, to organised crime.

"There were periods of high theft activity, peaking at 60,000 bpd and low periods of 40,000 bpd, which compares to 100,000 bpd and 20,000 bpd respectively in 2003," Shell said in its annual report for Nigeria released on Friday.

Analysts and rights groups have accused high-ranking Nigerian government and military figures of involvement in the illicit trade, which is also linked to big international networks capable of exporting the oil to refineries abroad.

The high level of oil theft is one cause of a massive influx of sophisticated military hardware to militant groups in the Niger Delta, analysts say, where hundreds of people die every year because of ethnic, communal and political fighting.

These groups often play on feelings among residents of the impoverished wetlands that they are being cheated out of the huge riches being pumped from their tribal lands. Militant groups frequently resort to kidnapping, extortion, sabotage and occupation to get their point heard.

Shell said that the Nigerian security forces had intensified efforts to reduce crime in 2004, although the security situation in the inaccessible region was mixed.

"During the year, 32 barges, six ships, six tugboats and 10 road tankers were seized, together with 63 suspects arrested (two of whom were senior naval officers)," Shell said.

SEIZURE

In Nigeria's largest ever seizure of stolen crude, two senior naval officers were court martialled for their involvement in the disappearance of a seized oil tanker impounded for smuggling 11,000 barrels of oil.

The tanker is still missing.

Shell said there were a lower number of security breaches in the western end of the delta around Warri, but a rising number of "ethnic warlords" on the waterways in the eastern part around Port Harcourt.

"Criminals used the cover of ethnic conflicts to undertake crude oil theft," Shell said.

The number of community-related disruptions, including the forced closure of facilities, seizure of assets, blockades and disruption to drilling, increased by 10 percent to 176, the report said. But the amount of oil lost from these events fell sharply, from 45 million barrels in 2003 to 5.2 million barrels last year.

The number of Shell staff and contractors killed rose to 12 in 2004, from 11 the year before, from a total of 314 criminal incidents.

The company recorded a small drop in the amount of oil spilled in 2004, to 8,300 barrels from 9,900 barrels. It said 97 percent of the spilled volume was caused by sabotage.

Let me help you since you apparently have a goat brain. Soludo calculated Oil that is being stolen in Niger Delta for which Madam Iweala sounded an alarm herself and claims it is the money that is missing under her. If that is not the height of intellectual fraud then i wonder what is. When Obasanjo was there and the militants ground our production almost to a halt, with only 800,000 barrels of oil being pumped instead of 2.3 million barrels, then we can conclude that Obasanjo stole the remaining 1.5 million barrels a day since he was President. That is Soludo's reasoning. So if we multiply that by an average price of $60 a barrel then we can conclude in one year alone that $32.8 Billion was stolen by Obasanjo. If you use $40 as the average price then Obasanjo stole $21.9 billion. Does that make sense to you? That is Soludo's mathematics. Only a complete idiot will believe that she is the one responsible for any theft in the Niger Delta. If you believe his crap, come let me sell you snow in Sokoto! That is how he arrived at his figures. He is blaming her for oil missing in the Niger Delta which she has no control of. He is not blaming our Navy or even the Niger Delta Militants. It is Okonjo Iweala. He has even in his latest, blamed her for exchange rate differentials in CBN. Let us also add all the money that hs been lost from economic activity because of Boko Haram since she must be behind Boko Haram too! Why even stop there. Let us add the pirates off the coast of Lagos. She is responsible for that one too. Nonsense!!!
