Vanguard Newspaper Publisher, Sam Amuka-Pemu’s wife in ritual killing …14-yr old boy beheaded …bribes Police with N4m




Pa Sam Amuka-Pemu, Nigeria’s oldest newspaper publisher, is reportedly down with a debilitating health problem, following the refusal of his wife to return to Nigeria since she fled the country in August 2007.

Amuka-Pemu is the publisher of Vanguard Newspaper located in the Apapa industrial area of Lagos. His wife, Mrs. Oyindamola Sam-Amuka, a middle-aged woman and mother of five is still hiding in a London community to escape justice after she was arrested for allegedly facilitating the killing of a 14-year-old boy for rituals.

The boy, whose identity is still not known, was bound and eventually beheaded by ritualists at a shrine in Igbalu village at Ijede via Ikorodu Lagos.

According to Pointblanknews.com extensive investigations, during the rituals, Oyindamola, a native of Owo in Ondo State, held unto the already hypnotized boy’s head and chanted incantations before the helpless boy was eventually beheaded.

A journalist resident in Ikorodu area, who was freelancing with Westerner Newspaper Lagos, covering Crime, Mr. Steve Ogwu-Chinuwa, reportedly stumbled on the scene and surreptitiously captured everything with his lens.

He also put a call across to police detectives who arrived at the scene, unfortunately at a time the boy had been beheaded. Four police detectives soon arrived from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Panti, Lagos. Babatunde Odine Jonathan, a Superintendent of Police and Officer in Charge of Monitoring, led the detectives.

When the armed cops in mufti arrived, they effected arrests including Oyindamola who was handcuffed and other suspected ritual killers such as Alfa Fatai and Alfa Taju, who by their prefixes are Islamic clerics.

Also arrested was the owner of the hollow shrine, one Alhaji Rasheed Alayande, a.k.a, Achebe. He is reputed as a 419 scammer and ritualist. Oyindamola and co were thus taken to the state CID in Panti where she was detained for three days.

When grilled, she reportedly confessed to the police that she went to the extent of performing the bloody rituals because her husband was dating another woman whom she wanted the ritualists to kill through supernatural means. Besides, she took along names of some Vanguard directors and editors whom she believed were obstacles to her gaining financial control over the newspapers.

These directors and journalists, according to her, have firm control over her husband’s thought-flow.

Rather than being prosecuted eventually, Oyindamola reportedly bribed her way out. Impeccable sources said she offered a N4 million bribe to the police. The money was believed to have been collected by SP Babatunde Jonathan, who was OC Monitoring, State CID, Panti. He was said to have been aided by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, Leye Oyebade. The Investigating Police Officers, Patrick Eze and Toyin Omojola were not left out. They reportedly shared from the N4 million bribes.

After Oyindamola bolted and took the available flight to flee Nigeria to London, her N4 million deals leaked. SP Jonathan, who is a police boxing champion and a world title holder, was relieved of his post by the commissioner of Police, State CID, Leye Oyebade. Jonathan has now also fled Nigeria to the US under a nebulous arrangement that he has sports engagements in the US.

However, an ironic twist in the case is that, Ogwu-Chinuwa, the journalist who discovered the heinous crime was also arrested by the police, along with his wife, Bosede.

He was detained for two weeks while his wife was incarcerated for two days during which she lost a two-month old pregnancy.

Recalling what led to his arrest and detention, Ogwu-Chinuwa told Pointblanknews.com “I went to meet Pemu-Amuka at his Vanguard office to confirm if Oyindamola was actually his wife. He answered in the affirmative and then slumped in his chair.” “I helped him to his feet and departed.”

Ogwu-Chinuwa said he suspected that Pemu-Amuka later machinated his arrest by the police and this, he said, still confounds him. “This is because, for three days, he didn’t know that his wife was being detained until I brought it to his notice,” he said.
