I was at a workshop with ADIMORA and she spoke on MARKETING AND PUBLISHING IN NIGERIA. And I thought I should share it with you guys. She started with how to excel in our art of writing. FIRST: Create your time and try to write everyday; to employ this, you need space (quiet place to write). You need money (to purchase your tools like computer, printer even a Biro and book). Then you must possess the passion (i.e. the drive or rather the strong desire to write). And finally a good command of the language you write in. Also you have to be a voracious reader of works by masters (this helps in your motivation). Then, consider taking a creative writing course. SECONDLY: she talked about writing plays; she emphasized the need to make our dialogues short. In your venture to write, you must first decide which of the writing family you are good at, is it poems, novels, short stories, articles, essays etc. Try to keep notes by writing down anything that inspires you immediately. As a writer you are in dire need of research. FINALLY: Join a writing club or organization. PUBLISHING: While trying to get published is quite difficult for upcoming writers, a lot of options are in store for them to explore; like Search on the internet for a publishing company’s website when you have already chosen your publisher wisely. Launch your books Submit your works for review Take your books along with you and make sure you market them yourself with any opportunity you find. You can also try self publishing (though ADIMORA finds it not advisable). And then launch by arranging book launch. N.B: Do not be too fast to go for money or recognition if you wish to be a writer. All you need is the will, be creative and bold. Thanks. 1 Like 3 Shares |
