Hello everyone.
Please i need some help.
I arrived in Sydney NSW a couple of days ago, although my school is in Melbourne but i want to do all i need to do in Sydney first before moving down next month.
First of all, i need a job.....any kind....cant be staying at home for over a month.
Secondly, i am trying to have a training in disability care but i am thinking of how to go about my placement because my orientation at Melbourne starts on 20th-23rd February.
Thirdly, i will need a temporary place to stay in Melbourne when i resume for Orientation. That will make me have some few days to get my own accomodation.

I think you should post this on the Australian Visa thread. Someone might be willing to help out there.

Best of luck.

going through this place, seeing how menial jobs are difficult to get is scaring the hell out of me oh. I would think that in an English speaking country, menial jobs and professional jobs should be readily available. Here in Germany for example, menial jobs are very very easy to come by, all you need is the language, still depending on your location there are some English jobs available. The reason I want to swap Germany for Australia is because of professional jobs; not that they aren't here in my field per se, but the major problem is language. I only hope that it is truly greener on the other side oh.

Hello house, i do hope some folks are still here though. Anyway, here goes nothing, im currently filling my form 80 for the 476 visa. Would it really affect my application if i dont fill in any address and future date? cause i dont really have any right now.
Re: Where Are Nigerians In Australia . by catchdwind4rmkd(m): 8:09am On Mar 25, 2017
Hi Taofiq,

I'm not really clear what exactly your inquiry was about; "any address and future date?".

If you meant is it compulsory to have an address in Australia, then NO it's not as most of us didn't provide any.

Also, if you meant your planned travel date, then it's best to say a date between 3 - 10 months from the date of application. You don't have to travel on the stated date. The time frame stated above is realistic enough to account for the time required to process your application, and also within the visa validity period which would be maximum of 1 year from the date of your medical assessment or police clearance whichever comes first.

Cheers.

If you are on student visa, be aware that it will be.much difficult to get a professional job. The PR holders will always be considered first. And I am not in Sydney.

Hi, getting a job in Adelaide is not easy. There are jobs but u have to really search hard and apply to alot cos the number of job seekers are more than the jobs. I was able to get one 2weeks after i arrived.

You stand a better chance at making it in Australia than in Germany..YES I SAID IT. Take it from someone who has lived in both countries. The menial jobs in Germany pay nothing compared to Australia. Many agencies in Germany take more than half of your pay. I know of a student in Germany during my time who was being paid about a little over 6 euros working in a warehouse outside of Cologne. Her pay was supposed to be a little over 12 euros but 6 euros was going to the agency that employed her... leaving her with barely enough. When she found out she quit.

We all know agencies have their cut but when you take too much and give the person doing the work almost nothing, then you are a thief.

well MrsCB just complained about menial jobs being quite hard to come by in Australia... Anyways with regard to student jobs, I can speak specifically for my city (Hamburg). There are lots of jobs abound where you don't have to work for agencies, also there are lots of automobile companies (Daimler, Audi, etc) where you can do holiday jobs and earn up to 2,000 euros monthly after tax. Anyways, my motivation for considering Australia is not menial jobs per se, but professional jobs. I might need menial jobs to get by initially, but I don't think getting one should be a problem given that English is the language spoken there (or would it?). That said I'd love to get your contact details, there are a lot of questions I would like to ask you, as I want to really know if the grass is really greener on that side before making the switch.

Dankeschön.

Bitte (my German is rusty now) embarassed. I had to call the Bundesamt für Justiz in Bonn recently after trying too hard to speak German fluently I just asked them to please transfer me to someone that speaks English embarassed

I lived in Bonn so I can only speak for that area ONLY. I never lived in Hamburg so I don't know much about that place and you are right, they could be lots of jobs there. Same way someone is complaining of lack of menial jobs in Adelaide is the same way someone in Western Australia, Melbourne or Queensland is thanking God for getting a job a few weeks after they arrived. Some cities/states are just more difficult than others.

Every new migrant will always face challenges in a foreign country especially if you don't have any relative there. I didn't struggle like the others because I had siblings who had lived in Australia for years. I had no relative in Germany. I came into Australia in January 22nd of one year and started work March 3rd...I was a student at the time. In fact during school holidays I had three jobs, one at Woolworths(working at the deli), one at an aged care home(I worked more there) and the other at the hospital cool. There are people who moved to Australia last year and got small small jobs to live by and there are some in some states who are struggling to get one.

Looking back at my life in Germany and the one here in Australia, I am glad I do not live in Germany anymore

Let's talk here. Others might learn a thing or two. I can talk about living in Australia as a new migrant.

Hello, what can you say about jobs availability in Gold coast? I heard having a car is an added advantage.

Secondly can one pay tuition fees with part time jobs ?

Hi. Gold coast? you will find plenty Zimbabweans students there. There are also Nigerians there. It depends on the kind of job you are looking for. Yes you need a car, you can go/work anywhere

foreverkind1:

When school is on 3 months holiday? yes. When school is in session? No/difficult.

Real life example. In mid 2009, I knew a guy who was studying the diploma of Nursing course. The fees were slightly above 7k per semester. He got a job as a carer in a nursing home (YES I know/have heard of many students who work/ed in aged care homes cheesy). Due to the 40hours/fortnight condition on his visa, he worked casual and was making about 22dollars per hour. When he worked weekends his fortnight pay was around $1000-1300... On school holidays from December to February, he worked(unlimited hours) mornings at the aged care and a couple of afternoons/week as a cleaner. The aged care alone used to fetch him over 2k per fortnight. He saved that one for school fees. The money he got from the cleaning was what he used to pay some bills (accommodation/transport/feeding)

I shared the below on another thread. This might help someone here. Cheers

What a success this thread has become. Bellong haff done well smiley.

Good luck to all applicants. I see mamajazz here. I swear you are everywhere. No be you I see for Canada thread cheesy

Gone are the days people thought Australia was too far away(under developed country with snakes and kangaroo running around the streets and also trying to occupy peoples' houses) and only had eyes for the UK and US. How the mighty has fallen.

I lie not, I saw Australia as a too far continent for me to travel to. I used to enjoy 6hrs flight to Nigeria anytime so when the option for Australia became open, I said NO. After months of fights with my siblings I finally said yes-grudgingly....many years down the line that yes I mumbled was the best YES I have ever said in my entire life cool

Australia truly is a beautiful country with somewhat better economy than most developed countries. The minimum wage is one of (if not) the highest. Free health care. Better pay but some things can be expensive. Please my fellow Nigerians stop converting currencies when you get here because you go tire cool

My advise to those coming as PR, bear in mind that you might not find a job in your field for months if not years after you get here. Make do with menial jobs..get the Australian experience e.g.

1. Hospital cleaner(the money can be good) cool
2. Care worker (most aged care homes require certificate in aged care others might not mind)
3. Eateries
4. Super market check out
5. Telecoms companies as a sales/customer rep

For those who are looking to partake in the mining boom(which isn't such a boom at the moment) do certificate courses in mining and surveying. No one cares about Phd and masters here. Some plumbers are making $100/hr....and them no go school cry

For those interested in Nursing for their partners...there are two types: Enrolled Nurse and Registered Nurse. Some people cannot be bothered studying to be Registered Nurses for 3 years so they opt for Enrolled nursing which is an 18 months course.

Mobile Network: I have trialled Vodafone, Virgin, Optus, Telstra, Lycamobile, dodo, e.t.c and have finally settled for lycamobile. Cheaper deals than the rest of them in my opinion especially their data deals cool

If you are coming as a PR include family members cool. The Ghanaians and Zimbabweans are good at this. They include dependent siblings in their application and they all leave Nigeria together.

Emmmm. I "talk" too much

All the best

Cheers guys cool

I'm talking about menial jobs. In Adelaide a student can get jobs like cleaning, picking and packaging in process company like bakery, supermarket check out, age care(u will need certificate for that) etc. I dont know about other states. But from research there are more jobs in sydney and melbourne both menial and professional.
