"The church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state, it must be the guide and the critic of the state, and never its tool. If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority."-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

The Ayo Oritsejafor led CAN has tarnished the image of all Christians in Nigeria. This is according to a Borno State-based pastor and Executive Director of the Voice of Northern Christians, Reverend Kallamu Musa-Dikwar. He accused the CAN of collecting N7bn bribe from President GEJ to campaign against the APC Presidential candidate in the March 28 election. he insists that the CAN collected the said amount and have been importing guns to enable the PDP cause chaos. A shameful thing for a religious body.
He added That Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka is the only honest and bold christian clergy man who was willing to speak out. “CAN has become a mafia. the Shepherd has become the sheep and the center could not hold any longer. CAN is in the news for crimes like arm racketeering and openly campaigning for politicians. The gangster leadership of bling-bling has drowned the church. Oritsejafor should resign to save his soul from eternal damnation.

They are now threatening Christians in Borno State that they will deal with anybody, who refuses to vote for Jonathan. And the CAN officials are now campaigning that if Buhari emerges President, he will Islamise Nigeria; and that Osinbajo collected monies from Islamic world; and that the same Osinbajo will resign soon after Buhari wins to give way for Tinubu to emerge Vice President.”
Irrespective of the term given to the said amount issued by the nation's First Lady, it should in the religious setting be termed "offering" or "Taite" or even "supporting Fund" but in the political scene, it could be conceived otherwise, thus "Power bought" or "Influencing strategy". Going by what the Rev Fr said, it could not have come to such a publicity should our politicians remain such that know the essence of governance.
Musa-Dikwa named some high-profile clerics, who had benefitted from the controversial largesse to actualise the re-election bid of Jonathan.
He however said that neither Jonathan nor Buhari was fit to govern the country. The cleric said CAN collected N7bn from Jonathan and not N6bn as alleged by the Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who is also the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.

However the matter is viewed, there seems to be a clear factor that unites the ruling class of this country be it political, religious or whatever we chose to call it. This factor revolves solely around the sustenance of their hegemony. In other words, the different strands of this country’s leadership are united in their goal of maintaining the status quo. For them nothing must change.
Isn’t it clear now why politicians looking for votes make a quick beeline to the nearest church or mosque rather than to potential voters at the campaign grounds as is the case worldwide? Our politicians have reinvented political campaign. Having pauperized the majority of our people and driven them into the waiting hands of religious entrepreneurs in their desperate search for miracles and wonders from the hell of their daily existence, our politicians follow them into these spiritual homes where those not trampled to death in mindless stampedes are handed back to the same prey they were running away from.
Any wonder the pulpit stinks.
