If you are slapped, turn the Other Face ..How Practicable?? by Nobody: 7:17am On Mar 01, 2015
This almost caused Controversy in Church meeting Yesterday..A particular enraged man had come into the Church premises to harass one of our leaders on the basis that he was diverting used water into his own compound.
The Next thing we saw is For the Man to land a hot slap on our church leader.Expecting the man to give a go ahead for us to at least push or carry the man out, he instead turned his left cheek to which the man landed another slap.
This time we the youths were angry and attempted to attack the man but our leader signalled to us to stop. The Angry man warned that he is going to be back if something is not done and that by that time it wouldn't only be a Slap but he will come with boys.

My question is the verse suppose to be metaphorical.?? Can it really be practice able without the person be taken for a Fool??

There were times Jesus told his disciples to carry swords, and times he told them to rely on him for their defense. I doubt he would have told them to carry swords if he didn't intend on them defending themselves should the need arise. undecided

When it is obvious you did nothing wrong, just walk away, thats the full meaning of that command, not really giving the other cheek.

People always miss the point Jesus was trying to make when He made these statements.

Jesus was showing the people how to be righteous by the standard of the law. In other words if you don't want your righteousness to be by faith in Christ but by your good works, these are the things you must do.

When someone slaps you, you must turn the other cheek. When someone takes your coat, you must call them back and give them your cloke as well. If your eyes and hands cause you to sin, pluck and cut them out. If you lust you have committed fornication and if you hate you have committed murder and you will be judged as such.

If you agree and do all these things and others without fail, your righteousness will exceed the righteousness of the pharisees and you will be righteous by the standard of the law.

Or, you can just put your faith in Christ, and have the righteousness of the only person who never sinned imputed into your spirit as a gift.

This was the point Jesus was making. Showing us the moral standard we must live up to to be righteous under the law for those who don't want to be righteous by faith in Christ.

No believer needs to do all these to be declared righteous by the Father anymore. We have our own righteousness as an imputed gift from Christ through faith. But we should still strive for Christ-likeness though and aspire for moral uprightness.

Hmnn! @ayoku777. unfortunately Jesus was not showing us how to live by the law. He was telling us to be like our heavenly father which was what he(Christ) came to conform us to. That is the nature of Christ and if we all want to live with Christ in heaven, then we must inherit this divine nature.
It is called the circumcition if the heart which is done by the power of the holy ghost taking the 10 commandments and writing it on the table of our heart to make us love his staues and not the giving of the law on the table of stones by moses.

jeremaiah 31;33, 1 corinthians
luke 18;14, 6;7. 2 corinthians 13;9. Heb 7;11.

Be ye perfect even as your father which is in heaven is perfect.

So you agree that plucking out our eyes and cutting off our hands is still needed to stay righteous now. Because Jesus said there that if our eyes offend us we should pluck it off.

So you agree that now to be righteous, if someone takes our house, we should give them our cars too.

You believe everything Jesus pointed out there is what we must still practise now to be like Him and be righteous before the Father?

Because those are things Jesus said we must do for our righteousness to exceed the righteousness of the pharisees by the standard of the law.

Is Jesus telling us to pluck off our physical eyes? Ofcos not. Jesus is only telling us that we should get rid of whatever will make us not enter the kingdom if God abd such things may be very dear to us. as precious as our eyes. It is called dying to oneself
The book of rev 12;11 says they lived not their lives even unto death.
Moreover, ist it christian like to avenge oneself of render evil for evil? Christ said 'my kingdom is not of this world. if my kingdom is of this world, then will my followers fight.
The gospel of christ teaches us to return good for evil.
The wrath of men work not the righteousness of God.

Note again that Christ was addressing those that have become the children of God by the virtue of the new birth during the sermon on the mount and not the pharisee which were still the children of satan.
That was why christ said we should let our light shine so that men will see the light and glorify God.
