I have been on nairaland for almost 5yrs (tomorrow makes it 5yrs exactly) and I have enjoyed every bit of its evolution and innovations since then till now.

But one thing I still find absurd is the continued reliance on this "boring" homepage display.

Even though I believe u are trying to keep it light and simple for easy surfing, but its getting too monotous having to pick from a "long list" of home topics.

I tried so much to convert most of my girlfriends to come on nairaland and even I tried registering usernames for them here, but after a week or two they all just loose interest.... Their reason being that they find Nairaland "boring".

By Boring they are not talking about contents, oh no far from it, but the aesthetics and the home page display.

I was on Linda Ikeji just a few minutes before writing this letter, I saw a segmentation of each topic with good pictures to go along, and by no means the website wasn't sluggish at all.

I will appeal to Seun Osewa, even if you won't be adding pictures to every topic on the home page, try at least to separate the topics and add some colors to it.

Please, Nairaland has become well known and we are all proud of it. But an upgrade of its outlook and display is also important.

Hearken to our voices Seun Osewa.....everyone wants change, dont you?

The contents of the front page topics are largely unworthy.

Well am not even about the contents, cos what is worthy to someone else might be unworthy to you, so that could be ssubjective.

All I want to see is a bit organisation and some fresh outlay and colors to keep it more appealing.

If each topic is separated with some symbols like yellow or red lines or stars, it sure will make a better appeal to the eyes dont you think?

Is it outlay we want to chop? So Seun should start designing each topic so the site will end up looking like an amateur blog..I thought this letter even had to do with the quality of content on frontpage instead I find concern over lack of pictures, screensaver, themes and wallpaper.

Nah. I like it that way pls. That 'boring' design makes it easy for me to associate with. Not a busy home page like Linda's.

Linda runs a (gossip) blog. Seun runs a Forum. Big difference. Pls stop using Linda as a yardstick. It sucks!

Thank you.

My observation about nairaland forum is that;
Nairaland is nt for 'lazy people'.. Infact, it requires a high IQ to decode its functionality..

If that is what Linda Ikeji's blog looks like, then I understand the hype. That's what sells these days. Oh..."they" love it. Gossip, entertainment, etc. It's trendy because the age bracket interested in such news are very active internet users.

Oga seun, I think the issue is the comparism between blogs and forums. Nairaland is the number 1 forum I know of in Naija and there are loads of other blogs.

To address the issue of her friends, its a thing of diff strokes for diff folks. Some people prefer the complexity of facebook others love the simplicity of Twitter. It would be funny if one day twitter looks like facebook.

Oga seun , I think I can relate to what op is saying, nairaland is not living up to 10% of its potential.try nd make the front page display more attractive, not necessarily over coloured, even facebook is bringing up new ideas to increase their followership.

Every time I visit Linda's blog I cringe at the adverts and pictures. They are just in your face though In don't blame her because she is making money from them. The strength of Nairaland's design is in its subtlety. Seun should pls leave it as it is. Linda's current design is really an assault on the eyes and it won't fit a forum. Besides I don't know why Nairaland is always compared to LIB. If seun copies her design now and she changes to another design maybe after the elections, will he also change his design again?
My own problem with Nairaland is the P.orn links being posted by some accounts on diff threads. I feel the mods aren't doing enough to combat this and it somehow devalues the forum.

Nairaland is cool,
But more work needs to be done on Censoring/banning grin some things...Imagine people Advertising Porn on the Frontpage of a thread..
The Mods r really trying but there is always room for more improvement..
Personally I limited my visit to LIB bcuz it consumes lots of MB (it was nt always like dat, esp mobile view, nw mobile view shows like desktop view) just to open nd I knw 3 people dat did the same (the economy is hard ni cheesy)..
Nd why LIB has more traffic is bcuz she gives out incentives (oga Seun no go like dis 1 grin), so people visit to check/increase their chances of winning money (go dia, Almost every comment is backed by a mail account/phone no)-who no like money
Monday giveaway/Christmas giveaway cheesy grin
Believe me, I was a LIBer (na wetin dey d call dem selves) atleast 16months b4 fully porting to Nairaland in 2013...
Nairaland is Swit, sugar ...much respect to LIB too..
But the dull colour of nairaland can be changed or enhanced...to look more attractive...aesthetic lol
Seun ble$$$....
OLį»ŒRUN bukun fun NAIRALAND..

the best thing seun did to this forum is making the hompage/frontpage to look simple. Those that tell u nairaland is boring are yet to connect with the real fun like we've done. Dont compare an administratively controlled blog to a forum that allow u to post and edit.

I'll go with the OP on using lines to seperate Front page topics... Apart from that, I think everything else is okay.

Nairaland is probably the fastest of all the sites I visit... I like it that way.

Yea. I spoke to the supermods about that. They assured me that they are doing a fabulous job about it.
