I am thinking of getting a Mazda car because of my budget for now, but I want to know how reliable and strong are these Mazda cars because I love travelling. Please I need advice before I proceed. Thank you all.

Bros, please think twice o! my experience with Mazda wasn't a too good one. Unless of course you get a very good and reliable mechanic!

My dear,
show love and care to any vehicle and it will serve you for years. my mazda 626 has been there since 2005. i service every 5000kg. i have travelled to & fro east/ph countless time. the closest i have gone into the engine is to change timing belt. Mazda is not bad at all. it takes attention off you.

Aviod a mazda with all ur life cos mazda cars are like d worst cars ever(talking from experience) just go for a car dat is common in ur area for easy maintenance.

I use a 96 model 626 and its the most rugged car ave used so far. Travelling between states, rough terrain and late night travels is assured that I will return safe, dont have a mechanic for 2 years 3 months now. Solid ride for my business runs. If I can, will upload pics later of where the car swam across a little river, slippery climb on a hill etc, its on my other thread "making a building quotation" here on nairaland I think.

My Mazda experience is fantastic, I bought Mazda Protege5, 2003 model, used it for 1yr without any issues and no mechanics apart from servicing it once. Sold it last month cos I had to buy other cars. No faults at all and the fuel consumption was so great. I miss my Mazda Protege5

The only things I changed in my mazda is the brake pads and the fan blade sitting, but I understand, I over use the car jare.

i have a mazda 626 96 model american specs. very good car, hardly disappoints and I travel a lot.
the major problem I have had with the car is that the automatic transmission gave me serious problems and the mechanics messed up the electrical system around the auto gear. i was later advised to change it to manual transmission and since then the car has been great.
as long as u do regular oil change like every 5000km, u are fine. to me, it is best to go for manual transmission of mazda cars. they are more reliable.

There is nothing wrong with mazda. I used a mazda 626 for 4 years and i hardly visit the mechanics except for routine servicing/maintenance, break pad change and other minor repairs. Any Japanese auto mechanic can fix it. Make sure you buy a very clean one at point of buying and you will enjoy the car

Bros, I suggest u have patient 4 awhile and increase your budget so that u can go 4 toyota product.d initial cost is relatively higher but maintenace cost is lower, it pays in d long run,it is more rugged and reliable esp for long journey.Mazda cars are good if u have enough cash, mechanic that is competent and honest but such people are scarce. my car is toyota any time anyday.my coleague in d office uses mazda, he has almost turn to mechanic because of issues here and there though the car was bought as tokunbo.

From my own experience, I've been driving a mazda 626 GF or so it's called ('99 model) manual transmission. Bought it in Oct. 2008 from Ritis, Benin Republic with abt 140K plus. It now has 250K plus and still going.
Nobody has opened it's engine till date. Just usual oil change which I do monthly or as soon as the oil turns black and break pads. The A/C for this particular one isn't really good but I don't mind but I see other people using their's with A/C so I don't think it's mazda's prob.
I drive everyday and this car doesn't dissappoint. My mechanic is even now trying to get one for himself as he's fascinated by the car. He sees me once a month just to change oil (that's the only thing he's been doing on the car since Nov. 2008 when I started visiting him to change oil) and he says this is the best car he has seen so far amongst his clients.

@OP, to answer your question, Mazda is super reliable. My family used a 323 for years and it served so well my pops had to give it out(he couldn't bring himself to sell it). There's a very good Mazda mech at Agidingbi around LTV whose name is Lati(Lati Mazda if you like). The guy was born for Mazda.

One of the best cars you can find. I have been using Mazda since 2006 and has never dissapointed. Fuel economy is superb. Don't listen to uninformed guesses. Go for it. That car does not dissapoint

My friend if u buy MAZDA u go catch witch o. Of all the brands of cars in nigeria i think mazda with his twin brother mitsubishi r the worst ever. Just go round mechanic workshops they r more in numbers abadoned by their owners out of fustration. Please go for volkswagen brands they r made for nigeria road. Durable, cheap parts, low fuel conruption and agile.

I had a 626 V6 never really had a major problem with it and I did do a lot of travelling. it occasionally overheated when on speed on the highway so had to travel most time without the AC on. I think the newer ones are even better if well maintained. The engines are pretty rugged just need to care for them.
Re: How Reliable Are Mazda Cars? For A Frequent Traveller. by redsun(m): 8:03pm On Jun 07, 2012
No vehicle can be reliable with the kind of roads you have in nigeria, not even four wheel drives. The roads are car and life wreckers. They ground vehicles to eternal halt,no matter how careful the owners can be.

In a normal world, road users will be suing the government on a regular basis for the deplorable state and fatalities of nigerian roads.

Three things I doff my for in a Mazda is one rugged, fuel consumption and cheaper spare parts compared to other japs. Infact a decent mechanic can handle it just like d peugeot of old. I am making dis assumption based on 2002 Mazda 626 my partner uses. Absolutely no issues except for a gear system issue which was as a result of flooding.

D issue being experienced now as caused by a quack mechanic who messed up d car. The car has done Lagos to Awka/Enugu at least 12 times. In d past two yrs. If u can, go for it instead of the Altima
