It depends on the size and location of the fibroid. If the fibroid is not blocking the uterine outet then there shouldn't be any serious problem. About the CS, vagina delivery is possible after one CS especially if it is a lower segment CS. So what you should worry about is the size and location of the fibroid.

A patient with fibroid can deliver vaginally. The most probable complications have been mentioned above by @allycat, although they are not common occurrences.

In your sister's case, what was the reason for the 1st C/S?

If the indication for the first C/S was not a 'modifiable' one, then this delivery should be by C/S.

Again, even if your sister may be considered for Vaginal delivery, consideration must be given to the number, sizes and locations of the fibroids in order to avoid a possible bad scenario of obstructed labour with possible rupture of the uterus at the initial scar.

My first baby was tro CS the second one was tro V delivery.
D day i gave birth to my second baby,a lady too delivered nd she had fibroid,plus d baby wasnt lying well,doctors were scared they booked her for CS as der were rolling her to d theatre she delivered on d way.

Very possible. Especially when located at the lower uterine segment, reducing the size of the outlet. Though, this will depend on the size of the fibroid(s).

Also, if the fibroid brings about an abnormal lie of the foetus, attempts at vaginal delivery would not be advised.



Please Note: This depends on the location (lower part of the womb), number and size (esp if bigger than 5cm) of the fibroid. If the baby is lying in an abnormal position (most likely due to the existing fibroid).
These are a number of factors that can hinder vaginal delivery.

Once a C-section, always a C-section. Add dt to the fibroid she's carrying which we don't know the position, and you won't need me to tell you not to gamble with your sister's life.

Best case scenario, she goes back to C-section as an emergency.
Worst case scenario, she gets a ruptured uterus.

My dear I will advise you take to any other good Govt hosptl let them work her up for an Elective CS, VBAC is a dangerous thing to try with co-existing fibroid esp large ones.

What can doctors do without God's help. Fear not,she will deliver safely through the vagina. Its not new,that first child came from CS,even with fibroid and she had the second child by herself. I am sure she will deliver but seek necessary help. Everybody will be happy.

My wife had a scan recently and it was observed her fibroid is the size of a baby's head, she is six months pregnant and had our first daughter through CS..

I live in UK, so she is under strict observation..

Please listen to the medical specialist and avoid any stupid prayer house or people asking you to visit pastors as the only option..

Fibroids r smooth muscle cells dat responds rapidly to oestrogen,a hormone produced by d female body durin pregnancy,wich helps to maintain it...so its almost impossible to get rid of dem durin pregnancy,bt however it can b put under check,lik d lady should always mak sure d fibroids dnt outgrow dia blood supply,lest dey die,and produce substances wich can cause preterm labour,she should also abstain frm sex,durin wich produces prostaglandins wich r toxic....she should also check to knw if her cervix is dialatin or thinnin out...bt dia's a drug 4 it,called deploropun(i cnt rili recall its name),wen taken,it sets d body into a menopause phase,wich is d only tym d body stops secretin oestrogen,thereby,leavin d fibroid cells to die,bt its disadvantage is dat after d drugs has taken effect,it taks quite sometym 4 d lady to start ovulating again.......nw to ur question...d lady u talked abt ought to av reg 4 an ante natal care,her ob/gyn,shud see to her well being,and decide wich birth method is safer....bt i tink d surest is d C/S...fibroids r no big deal wen managed well....God bless and help ur frend...tnks

Hello zikkie, how is ur sis?. At my first trimester, I noticed sharp pains all over my waist, unable to get up or sit. I had to see a doc and scan was done, fibroid of a small size was seen, not close to baby and I was under observation. doc say dat I should not worry, with prayers, my scan at 3rd trimester showed dat it has disappeared and I gave birth safely.

am not sure but i stand to be corrected: if u have a family frind that is a redeemer, i think they do free delivery even if its CS. u may try the redeem camp or their head office in ebute metta.

Its too dicey as the age of the person, the stage of the fibrod comes to play.
I'm sure your sister is a middle aged woman say 35 and above.

I am not vexing with the patient, I am only saying that if she does go ahead to have a vaginas delivery and things go wrong she should not blame any doctor if at the last minute she requires a CS and there are complications. An emergency CS by a doctor who does not know the patient has a higher chance of going wrong and I honestly will not blame any hospital for rejecting such a patient rushed in at the last minute because they will get the blame if something goes wrong however hard they try to help.

It depends on size and location of fibroid, as well as many other factors peculiar to the patient's status and the status of the pregnancy. Also with a history of previous caesarian section she is a likely candidate for another CS. However. . . . .

let her go to the hospital and let her doctors decide and stop seeking medical opinion online, especially in a fvcked up forum like nairaland.

Dont let money alone decide this important issue. Your sister's life is at stake, her baby's life is at stake. If you make a terrible decision bc you want to save money, you may end up spending more money on funerals for mother and child (GOD FORBID)

My dear i feel ur pain...my wife had thesame problem but we prayed and trusted God and she delivered successfully.but mind u it wasnt easy at all...i have to gather friends and elders that day for pray o.that particular day the doctor already booked her for c section but we prayed and labour came and she delivered without any complications..my dear if ur sister have faith let her pray it will happen otherwise...hmmm...

First of all, it is well with you and your family IJN.


Let le give you my 2 cents,
When did she give birth to her first child? How long ago? 2 yrs? 3?if it is less than 2-3 yrs I think she should consider CS as first option


Take her to a general hospital (it should cost 6k for reg, 2-4 pint of blood, etc), they have specialist there and it is relatively cheap (total cost for CS should be between 45-60k).
