SaharaReporters has learned that at least 18 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have agreed to commence investigations into allegations of grave misconduct against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

SaharaReporters has obtained documents accusing Mr. Fayose of various acts of gross misconduct, a first step to his possible impeachment by the lawmakers.

In June 2014, Mr. Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), decisively won the governorship of Ekiti State after defeating then incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) throughout the state. However, a major shadow was cast over the PDP candidate’s victory when SaharaReporters uncovered an audiotape in which several PDP politicians, including then Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro, Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, former Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Mr. Fayose ordered Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh to use soldiers to intimidate and arrest APC members in a scheme to guarantee victory for the PDP governorship candidate.

One of the legislators in Ekiti State told our correspondent, “We are going to look at the allegations against Governor Ayodele Fayose in a responsible manner and make our decision in line with the rule of law and the overall interest of the people of the state.”

Asked to comment on the timing of the impeachment plot, a week after the APC’s presidential candidate won last weekend’s presidential election, the legislator said the assembly was already working on the issue before the elections of March 28. “I can assure you that this is not a case of partisan witch-hunt,” the lawmaker said. He added, “We are approaching the investigation with an open mind. No conclusions can be reached without a thorough investigation.”

If the case ends up in Mr. Fayose’s impeachment, he would become the first Nigerian governor to be impeached twice. He was impeached in October 2006 during his first run as governor of the state.

Honestly,if Fayose could be impeached by the lawmakers based on the alleged gross misconduct,after thorough investigation is made,it will be better for this nation.He is a disgrace to Nigeria,as a governor.

When APC was campaigning, PDP was preoccupied looking & searching for Buhari's WAEC result. Now that d result is out, i think they can now see dat he passed at distinction level in all d subjects. The 19 members of the ekiti state HOA are still under suspension until the courts rule otherwise. There are just wasting their time. Buhari might have won but he is not yet President. As long as PDP remains in power, Fayose cannot be impeached. Unfortunately for them, They will all be kicked out next week so that when Buhari resumes by May 29 ,Fayose would be safe from impeachment.

If the Judiciary would prove to the Nigerians that the institution has started to be an entity the average Nigeria can depend upon for justice, Kayode Fayemi will be returned into the governor's office to complete his second tenure as Ekiti State Governor.

He can only be impeached if the APC get the required2/3 in the next HOA.From the look of things going by the results of the presidential and state HOA elections, PDP will win all the seats in the next ekiti state HOA.

As long as GEJ remains in power Fayose would never be impeached. These lawmakers sealed their fate by taking their purported suspension to court. The way it isby the law, there are still under suspension, the ekiti chief judge would not even bother responding to them, if they ask him to set up a panel

Let them allow peace to reign. At least for now. APC should please avoid anything that would make it look like the twin brother of the PDP.

Even if people perceive APC as a party peopled with aggrieved individuals out to settle scores, the party can dispel the notion and not lend credence to it by letting sleeping dogs lie. At least for now.
