60 Nigerian military officers for armament training in India


60 Nigerian military officers are undergoing a six-week extensive training in highly specialized fields of weaponry and communication in India.


A statement from the Indian High Commission in Abuja said the training, offered by the Indian Armed Forces, was to further enhance the capacity of the Nigerian troops as they battle Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.

The training was sponsored by the Indian government and will continue until June 10, 2017, the statement said.

India’s “sustained” support to the Nigerian armed forces was due to the strong bilateral relations between both countries, it added.

“A large number of training courses are being offered by the Indian Armed Forces to further enhance the capacity and capability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“In continuation to this effort, highly intensive armament training for sixty personnel of the Nigerian Army has commenced in India on May 01, 2017. This training is being imparted to both Officers and soldiers and will continue until June 10, 2017.

“The six week extensive training includes highly specialized fields of weaponry and communication.

“The funding for the training is being provided by the Government of India,” the statement said.

NAF COMMISSIONS NEW BUILDING; PRESERVES MEMORIES OF FALLEN HEROES


In continuation of the current NAF leadership’s resolve to enhance the living condition and welfare of its officers and men, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar today commissioned two new residential quarters for its officers in Abuja. Air Marshal Abubakar used the opportunity to honour another set of gallant NAF officers who lost their lives in the course of servicing the Nation.
The buildings were named after Squadron Leader Benjamin Ado and Flying Officer Ayuba Layelmenson who lost their lives on 6 May 2013 in an air crash involving the NAF Alpha jet combat aircraft near Niamey, Niger Republic. According to the CAS, ‘‘the 2 blocks we are commissioning today have been appropriately named after 2 of our gallant officers who died while on active duty in 2013 during the Africa Led International Support Mission to Mali.” He further disclosed that immortalizing the two pilots was in consonance with the administration’s efforts at preserving the memories of NAF fallen heroes and heroines.
Air Marshal Abubakar used the occasion to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for the constant support given to the NAF. He then pledged the unalloyed commitment of NAF officers and men towards sustaining Nigeria’s democracy. Keys were presented to beneficiaries of the newly built quarters immediately after the commissioning ceremony.

To further enhance security in parts of 1 Division Nigerian Army's area of responsibility, today Friday, 19th May 2017, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, commissioned FORT MUHAMMADU BUHARI FORWARD OPERATION BASE, Daura, Katsina State which was named after President Muhammadu Buhari. The establishment of the new unit was part of the implementation of the the Nigerian Army approved Order of Battle 2016 (ORBAT 2016) by the Army Council. Prior to that, he was at the Palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Umar Faruk Umar, the Emir of Daura for a courtesy call. Below are the photographs of both events:

TROOPS CLEAR BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS OUT OF NDUFU RESCUES 998 PERSONS


Following confirmed information about the presence of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in some villages around Ngala, troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army, today, Friday 19th May 2017, along with some Civilian JTF embarked on Fighting Patrol to the area.
The patrol team had a fierce encounter with the terrorists at Ndufu which they decisively dealt with before proceeding to clear Muktu and Muzuri, as welll as nearby communities within the area.
Although some of terrorists fled to various direction on sighting the troops, the patrol team was able to neutralize 9 terrorists, destroyed their Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory and rescued 998 persons. Those rescued were 125 at Ndufu, 802 at Muktu and 71 persons at Muzuri. Interestingly, despite the heat of the battle, the troops also vaccinated all children under the age of 5 with Polio vaccinations.
In addition, the troops recovered 1 AK-47 Rifle with registration number 565231515, an AK-47 Rifle Magazine, 2 Boko Haram terrorists flags, 4 Motorcycles, 2 Solar Panels, 2 already prepared IEDs, Detonating cords and other explosive making components.
It is gratifying to note that 3 Battalion has maintained its status as one of the best fighting unit in the theatre as they did not sustain any casualty or injury during the operation.

TROOPS NEUTRALIZE BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS IN LAKE CHAD AREA


In the ongoing clearance operation around the fringes of Lake Chad, troops of 8 Task Force Division have continued to hit the few remaining Boko Haram hideouts and what is left of their logistics holding.
In the last 72 hours, gallant troops operating in Chikun Gudu, Tumbuma Karami and Tumbuma Baba have neutralized 13 Boko Haram terrorists, while many others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Similarly, troops recovered 3 AK 47 and 1 pump action riffles, assorted riffle magazines and 306 rounds of ammunition, tool box and a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle. In the vein, troops destroyed 2 other Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, 1 Toyota truck, 2 Motorcycles and 6 bicycles.
In a related development, troops of 242 Battalion, acting on a tip off, rounded up 10 suspected Boko Haram smugglers. The suspects comprising 6 females and 4 males were arrested in Monguno and Nolwodo Malgori with assorted house - hold items, food stuff and 63, 060 Naira cash. The suspects are are being profiled to determine the extent of their involvement in Boko Haram insurgency.
