Microwaves can make life convenient, but they should be used sparingly, firstly because of the radiation they emit and secondly because they can be dangerous. Here are some items that you should never put in the microwave.

Eggs: Even if you’re in a hurry, take the time to boil your eggs on the stove instead of trying to boil them in the microwave. The extreme heat generates a lot of steam within the eggs and they eventually explode, leaving you a mess to clean up.

Fruits: Whether you want to thaw fruits or cook with them, avoid doing so in the microwave. A few fruits can take the extreme heat, but most can’t. Grapes tend to explode and raisins become smoky.

Chili Peppers: While nothing will happen to the chili peppers, you should avoid putting them in the microwave because they release a pungent chemical that can burn your eyes and face when you open the door.

Red Sauce: If you’ve ever cooked red sauce on the stove, you’ll know that it tends to bubble and spit. In the microwave, this reaction is much more violent, causing the sauce to explode all over. You can heat up red sauce in the microwave for a minute or so, but avoid keeping it for longer.

Vegetables: A lot of people warm up their vegetables in the microwave, but this kills their nutritional content. A study found that putting broccoli in the microwave caused it to lose 97 percent of its antioxidants.

Frozen Meat: If you are trying to defrost frozen meat, either remove it from the fridge well in advance or hold it under running water. Avoid putting it in the microwave, as the outside will burn and the inside will still remain frozen.
