FIVE MEN THAT INFLUENCED AMBODE’S VICTORY (BY KOLA POPSON)
A day to April 11, 2015, it would have been quite difficult for anyone to say confidently who would emerge the Governor-elect of Lagos State between the two major contestants, Akinwunmi Ambode of All Progressive Congress (APC) and Jimi Agbaje of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Though the supporters of both candidates would probably tell you that they were sure that their candidates would emerge the winner, the truth is that inside them, they were very doubtful of what the outcome of the results would be. However, now that Akinwunmi Ambode has been declared the winner of the 2015 Lagos State Gubernatorial election, it is pertinent to note those personalities whose traits, contributions and influences had helped swing the pendulum in favour of Ambode. There are many of them, but for the purpose of this piece, five key players would be considered.
The first of those personalities is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the immediate past governor of Lagos State. Beyond every reasonable doubt, the Jagaban, as he is fondly called, did play a very vital role in the victory of Akinwunmi Ambode as the next governor of Lagos State. Asiwaju Tinubu is such a controversial being in the sense that while some continuously allege that he indirectly controls the funds and properties of Lagos State, some strongly believe he is such a visionary leader who always wants the best for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. So to the latter, they are always ready to give a nod to whatever Tinubu says.
It would be recalled that prior to the APC Lagos State Primary election that produced Ambode as the flag-bearer of the party, Ambode had always been Tinubu’s choice, even as there were other strong Lagos APC gladiators in the race. The noted of them was Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS). Looking at the political strength and acceptability of GOS in Lagos State, Ambode wouldn’t have defeated his like at the primary election, but for the influence of Asiwaju Tinubu. In other words, Ambode was only able to scale through the primary election of the party due to Tinubu’s influence on the delegates. Similarly, some of the Lagosians that casted their votes for Ambode on Saturday, April 11, 2105, did so purposely because of the love, respect and loyalty they have for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not necessarily because they see Akinwunmim Ambode as a better option to Jimi Agbaje.
Another important personality that has contributed largely to the victory of Akinwunmi Ambode at the last Lagos State Gubernatorial election was His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akinolu of Lagos. As a matter of fact, Oba Akinolu was the first person that publicly annointed Ambode as the next Lagos State Governor. And this was a long time ago, even before APC primary election took place. The Oba would not spare anything in ensuring that his candidate eventually becomes the next Lagos State Governor. The Oba’s love and desire for Ambode to be Lagos governor was not measurable and was beyond comprehension of many as he (Oba) decided to campaign openly for Ambode to the extent that he was alleged to have threatened that people who go against his wish would perish in Lagos Lagoon. However, the Oba has succeeded in influencing some people, especially Lagos indigenes, in casting their votes for Akinwunmi Ambode of All Progressive Congress.
In Yorubaland, it is believed that people don’t go against the wish and desire of their kings. It is believed that whatever the kings says should be the final. The Yoruba culture posits that you don’t disobey the king of the land, for whatsoever reason. One can, however, say that gone are those days in Yorubaland as these days we often witness events where Yoruba people disagree with their kings, especially on the issues that are political. Having noted this, it is also important to state that some people in Yorubaland still hold in high esteem such a belief. Those kinds of people were discovered in my observations at various newspaper stands in Lagos State before the governorship election took place. I had taken time to indirectly sample the opinions of the Yorubas residing in Lagos as regards the governorship election and the controversy surrounding the alleged threat of the Oba Akinolu to Igbos. Though most of them were not in support of Oba Akinolu’s utterances, they were fully ready to dance to the tune of the Oba by voting for Akinwunmi Ambode. Some of them concluded that they would be the last ones to go against the will of Oba Akinolu, instead of doing so, they would not vote. Some were afraid of the curse allegedly placed by Oba on anyone who antagonizes his will. In essence, though many of Lagosians might have considered the threat nothing (this was evident in the result of the polls as Ambode could only lead Agbaje with a slight margin), the truth remains that some would have voted for Ambode based on that or due to the respect they have for the Oba of Lagos. Therefore, Oba Akinolu has indirectly and even directly influenced the victory of Akinwunmi Ambode.
In the same vein, another prominent person that has contributed to the victory of Ambode is the incumbent Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). Many had adjudged Governor Fashola outstanding administrator of Lagos State. Though some of his policies were labeled ‘anti-masses’ by some people, so many people, including Jimi Agbaje, have acknowledged the fact that Gov. Fashola has performed wonderfully to some extent. As a result of that, many were determined to cast their votes for Ambode to ensure the continuity of the good things that Gov. Fashola has been doing. To them, casting their votes for Jimi Agbaje and making him the winner would indirectly suggest that Fashola has performed below average. It would be a slap on Fashola and that would not be fair enough.
Another person that has influenced the victory of Ambode is Prince Dipo Eludoyin. Though his name may not actually ring a bell to the public, Prince Dipo Eludoyin played the most important role in the actualization of Akinwunmi Ambode’s victory in the 2015 Lagos State Gubernatorial election. Yes you got me right; Prince Eludoyin played the most important role. He was the one that financed the campaign activities of Akinwunmi Ambode for the Lagos State Gubernatorial race. Without doubt, money plays a very vital role in politics. Without financial backing of this man, Ambode might not have emerged the Governor-elect of Lagos State, bearing in mind that the extension of the general elections by six weeks had somehow weakened the financial strength of the party, All Progressive Congress.
The last but not the least of those personalities that have contributed immensely to Ambode’s victory is Faud Oki. Faud Oki is the Director General for Ambode Campaign Organization. Faud Oki, a political tactician, was called upon to take over this vital position from Chief Folusho Ologunde when it was discovered that things were not really going well for the party and Ambode as far as the 2015 Lagos Governorship election was concerned. It was reliably gathered that it took the intervention of Governor Raji Fashola before Faud Oki could agree to take up the position. Immediately Faud took over, he strategized on various means of actualizing the victory of Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos Governorship polls. He would not relent in his efforts in doing so until this was eventually achieved. Indeed, Faud Oki was one the brain behind Ambode’s victory.

The search for Justice and Peace in Ekiti State

Position of the Action Group Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) on the April 14 Supreme Court Judgment
We the Action Group, (AG) caucus of the APC in Ekiti State affirms that we have respect for the courts and cherish the grundnorm that establishes the Supreme Court as the apex jurisdiction on all legal disputes.
In line with our right to freedom of speech, the Action Group caucus wishes to express our shock at the position of the Supreme Court and also to draw the attention of the Nigerian public and the international community to what we consider as very serious flaws in the pronouncement of the Supreme Court.
We observe that the judgment came even in the face of overwhelming evidence that raises fundamental questions on Mr Ayodele Fayose’s eligibility and the evident plots, intrigues and fraudulent conspiracies of a section of the Nigerian security operatives which heralded his emergence after the June 21, 2014 gubernatorial election against all known democratic cultures.
We are worried about Mr Fayose’s several other obvious gross misconducts and nasty violations of not only the sacred norms of the Nigerian constitution, but also the agelong values held in the highest esteem by Ekiti people. Here are the other critical issues that will continue to prick the conscience of all rational, democratic and right thinking people in Nigeria and across the world:
1) As we speak and for six months running, 19 lawmakers duly elected by Ekiti people have been locked out by the governor, preventing them from sitting, with the State House of Assembly surrounded by armed policemen and armed thugs, while the inner chamber has been taken over by miscreants who literally live inside the hollow chamber with their cudgels and hemp.
2) As at today, Mr Fayose has passed the state budgets, appointed commissioners and continues to run legislative functions with only 7 out of the 26 elected lawmakers.
3) The decision to affirm his authority on our silent but grieving people will continue to attract public disdain and outrage, more so, given the naked audio evidence provided by Capt Sagir Koli which gave a graphic account of how the June 21, 2014 election was manipulated in favour of Mr Fayose, who by share doling out of state funds to poor, impoverished and vulnerable voters, snatching of ballot papers, gun-toting and fear-inducing scheming, backed by armed officials, succeeded in recording the same odious feat during the last two elections.
4) We recall that Mr Fayose in the full glare of the world did what only Adolf Hitler or Idi Amin could have done by supervising the merciless beating up of a judge and through a combination of subterfuge, violence and brigandage, has prevented the Ekiti State courts from sitting in a case of illegibility preferred against him by the E-11.
5) We are perplexed that up till now non of the culprits in the invasion of the courts and the assault on the judges has been apprehended and brought to book as ordered by the National Judicial Council ( NJC). The NJC, in spite of this odious affront on the judiciary has remained silent thus giving a tacit support for Fayose’s brigandage.
6) The state of affairs in Ekiti under Mr Fayose remains barbaric, criminal, anti-culture, primitive and shocking. This only reminds Ekiti people of the indignity, spineless corruption, rot, destruction of the sacrosanct reputation of the judiciary and other traumatic experiences the Federal Government under the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has subjected Nigerians into in the past 16 years of misrule which seem to have destroyed almost every valuable fabric of the society and unfortunately too, the judiciary inclusive. It is our considered opinion, that Mr Fayose is only an outstanding beneficiary of this decomposing state mechanism.
7) As things stand in Ekiti today there is no democracy as prescribed by the nation’s constitution. The courts have been permanently shut down since Fayose came to power and this clearly excludes the judiciary, a major arm of government from participating in governance. The legislature has been beheaded by him by having seven members of the house of assembly take decisions over the house and thereby excluding majority members against the provision and intent of the law.
cool Therefore what we have in Ekiti today is a dictatorship of one man and it appears that he has excised Ekiti State from the rest of the country and suspended the Nigerian constitution and all the state apparatus that should call him to order, are looking on.
9) The truth is that Mr Fayose is instinctively violent. Nigerians are witnesses to the violent manner he conducted the last elections in the state. Contrary to the culture of Nigerians, he openly wished the then Presidential aspirant, now President-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari death. This is apart from his snatching of ballot boxes, chasing away leaders of the opposition in the state and open trading of cash for votes in the last elections.
cool It is instructive that Mr Fayose has responded to the Supreme Court judgment with excitement and offer of reconciliation to the opposition. This is an old trick that we have seen over and over again. It should be noted that while he was offering the mischievous olive branch, members of the APC were being harassed with guns and cutlasses at Emure and Ayetoro by his thugs.

7) We call on Ekiti people to remain calm even in the face of dashed hope and aspirations. Our confidence remains firm and unshaken in the belief that by the power of the Almighty, the creator of heaven and earth and mover of all things, who is more Supreme than any court on earth, our people will be free from torment and the unending misery under Mr Fayose’s jackboots, which though, gives a false semblance of democratic acceptance by the generality of our helpless and long suffering people. We know that very soon, the Day of Judgment will come for the wicked and the unrighteous.

Signed:
APC Action Group caucus, Ekiti State.

Truth is sacred

PDPLOGOApril 14, 2015.

The Chairman
Independent National Electoral Commission
Abuja.

Dear Sir,

ABIA GUBER ELECTIONS 2015: A PLEA FOR JUSTICE FOR DR. IKPEAZU

We act as Solicitors to Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the PDP candidate in the gubernatorial elections held in Abia State on the 11th day of April 2015 and it is on his instructions and in his behalf that we now write.

It is our instruction that we most respectfully appeal that you use your good offices to intervene, investigate and reverse the unjust decision to declare the just concluded Abia State Gubernatorial election inconclusive which decision was made by the Abia State Returning Officer, Prof. V. C. Ozumba and Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Selina Okoh (hereinafter: Abia RO and REC respectively). This decision is without any lawful justification since the election threw up a clear winner in the person of Dr. Ikpeazu. The decision has thrown the State into a state of unrest and it is getting more and more difficult to control the youths as the days go by. Only an immediate declaration of Dr. Ikpeazu as the clear winner of that election will restore peace and stability to Abia State and credibility to the electoral process and to INEC.

It is on record that three days after the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections in Abia State, the Abia RO and the REC have mischievously refused and failed to formally declare our client, Dr.Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the winner of that election citing one unjustifiable excuse after another for the delay. The State RO, initially and without powers from any known law, purported to cancel election results collated from four Local Government Areas – two of which (Obingwa and Osisioma) have some of the highest number of registered voters in Abia State; and they also account for the highest number of votes recorded in the elections. It is instructive that these Local Governments are our client’s home base. Why did the Abia RO who is supposed to be an impartial umpire in the electoral process attempt to deprive Dr. Ikpeazu of votes from his home base, including his own vote?

Following protests from various parts of the State and sensing real danger to the internal security of the State, the Abia RO quickly reversed himself and released the election results for the said local government areas. After he reversed himself, the Abia RO cited non-existent disruption of collation by persons unknown, among other flimsy excuses. Interestingly, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) who personally monitored the elections in the State had told both the print and electronic media (including Channels and CNN) that the elections in Abia State were peaceful, free and fair.

From the results collated from the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, our client is leading his closest rival, Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) with more than 83,000 votes. Surprisingly, two days after collation was concluded and after their earlier move to cancel the election had failed, the Abia RO and REC, citing non-existent acts of violence and non-compliance with electoral laws, announced the cancellation of results from a number of specified electoral units spread over some eight local government areas and with registered voters totalling some 177,000 votes altogether. They therefore had found reason to declare the Abia State Gubernatorial election inconclusive under the pretext that our client’s lead of over 83,000 votes was less than the total number of registered voters in the areas where the results were allegedly cancelled. The simple reason for doing this is to give an undue advantage to their preferred candidate, Alex Otti of APGA and to deny our client of his victory.

It will be recalled that on 13/4/15, after the declaration of results from each of the 17 LGAs in Abia State which showed that our client had clearly won the election by over 83,000 votes, the REC declared a recess and directed that the stage be prepared for the final declaration of the winner and return of our client. Curiously, for over five hours, the REC and RO were nowhere to be found. Unknown to our clients, they were using the recess to perfect their plan to manipulate the results and to pander to the offers and needs of Alex Otti. While this delay was on, Alex Otti, who could not hide his joy at the apparent success of his arrangements with the Abia REC and RO quickly took to his Facebook page to post that his supporters should expect some breaking news.
Soon after Otti’s facebook announcement, the Abia REC and RO emerged, only to declare the elections inconclusive and to purport to order supplementary elections in a number of specified PUs carefully selected to favour Alex Otti and to deny our client of the joy of his victory. This was Otti’s breaking news, indeed.

It will be recalled that the House of Assembly elections were held at the same place and time with the gubernatorial elections. The results for the House of Assembly elections in all those areas where supplementary elections for the Governorship election have been ordered were announced and the winners duly returned without any cancellation or supplementary election. One therefore wonders why the results of the House of Assembly elections from the areas where our client’s elections were cancelled remain valid. The question that now arises is: is it within the powers of the State RO to cancel results which have been announced by the presiding Officer at the PUs, Ward Collation Officer at the Ward Collation Centre and the EO at the LG Collation Centre in accordance with Sections 27 and 63 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), as well as Paragraphs 28, 29, 30 and 31 of the Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of the 2015 Elections when there were no complaints or protests by anyone whosoever at those three levels of the process.

See particularly Sections 65 – 68 of the Electoral Act.
S. 68 (1) of the Electoral Act, on the powers of the Returning Officer has received judicial interpretation. In NWOKOLO VS UBOH (2012) 17 NWLR (Pt 1330) 604, the Court of Appeal held that a returning officer does not have the power to declare an election inconclusive. The court said:
”The election having been held in Ika North-East L.G.A as borne out by the evidence led, it was for the returning officer to have declared the result of the election by deciding on the scores of the candidates under section 68(1) of the Electoral Act leaving an aggravated party with his options under the Act and not for him to declare the election inconclusive. He had no power to do so. His action was therefore, ultra vires and void. ”per Nwosu-Iheme J.C.A at page 611 paragraph D to F.
At page 612 paragraphs A-B, His lordship finally stated,
”A returning officer should, therefore not act capriciously or contrary to the Law governing the conduct of an election for which the 3rd respondent is responsible and expect to wallow in such capriciousness and illegality”

See also the decisions in:
1. INEC v.Abubakar[2009] 8 NWLR (Pt 1142)259 at 289-290.
2. Mark v. Abubakar [2009] 2 NWLR (Pt 1124)79.
In the circumstance, we have our client’s instruction to protest against the decision of the Abia State RO and REC and to pray that you reverse the said decision on the following grounds:

1. The Abia RO acted beyond his powers in the cancellation of results of selected Polling units/wards which had been announced by him and also announced at the three levels of PUs, Ward Collation Centre and LG Collation Centres without reference to reports from the Returning officers and the Security agencies posted to the units and centres on election duty and in our (Abia’s case) led by a respected Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.

2. As against the erroneous premise upon which the Abia REC based his conclusion that the governorship election in Abia State was inconclusive,
i. The DIG reported a violent-free election in Abia State, which he personally monitored. The State RO acted 3 days after based on personal interest, mischief, or immense pressure from the opposition party and jaundiced social media.
ii. There is no report of violence or disruption of election in relevant INEC Forms by any Returning Officer in any part of Abia State.
iii. There were no marks of or endorsement of rejection as required by section 67(1) of the Electoral Act

3. The State RO acted beyond his powers under the Electoral Act when he cancelled results already collated, announced and declared at three of the four stages in a governorship election process under section 27(1) of the Electoral Act – by the Presiding officer at the Polling units, Ward Collation Officer at the Ward Collation Centres and the Local Government Collation Officer at the Local Government Collation Centres, before the exercise at the State Collation, without due consideration for the Rules and in the absence of any relevant reports from Security agencies and other officers.

4. The Abia RO lacked capacity to selectively cancel gubernatorial election results in the affected Units and Wards when the election results for the Abia House of Assembly conducted at the same time and date (and with ballots cast in the same ballot box as those for the governorship election) in those Units and Wards have been declared and accepted as free and fair by all the parties to the election.

5. Only an Election Tribunal duly constituted under the law can rightfully declare whether or not an election has been conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act.

6. The Abia RO is biased in favour of the opposition. There is no doubt the REC and RO were bought over by the opposition candidate and are therefore biased in his favour; otherwise why would the House of Assembly election results from the areas where supplementary elections have now been purportedly ordered not be affected by the same vice complained of by the REC. The Collation Officer for Obingwa LGA, Mr. David Nwanjuole openly and publicly testified in the presence of all present that the opposition offered him N50 million and he refused. There is no doubt that the Obingwa CO could not have been the only one approached. We have this testimony on a video tape and will be willing to make the tape available upon request. There is no doubt that the Obingwa CO’s refusal to accept the inducement may have been the reason no voting unit was cancelled in Obingwa.

7. It is no doubt obvious that when the plan to use the EOs to cancel the elections in the four selected local governments failed, the REC and RO decided to take the precipitate action of ordering supplementary elections in a specified number of units carefully selected to deny our client of his well earned victory.

8. Alex Otti, the APGA gubernatorial candidate is alleged to be a first cousin to the said Abia REC. It is in the public dormain that the said Alex Otti had boasted that he had used his connections to effect the REC’s transfer from Imo State to Abia State. If this is true, it is against the principles of natural justice that she should ever have been the REC for Abia or continue to be the REC in the light of the havoc she has caused. We invite you, Mr. Chairman to investigate these allegations.

9. In the circumstance, it is our instruction to demand the immediate removal of the REC, Prof. Selina Okoh and the RO, Prof. Ozumba from Abia State. There is no doubt that these officers have compromised their position as election umpires in the Abia State governorship elections 2015.
It is therefore our humble petition that you be gracious enough to intervene in the matter by taking immediate steps to reverse the decision of the RO and REC and declare our client, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, winner of the gubernatorial elections conducted in Abia State by INEC on Saturday the 11th day of April 2015.

Yours faithfully

Chief Theo Nkire

As May 29, 2015 handover date from the current elected government officials to the newly elected ones draws nearer, the anxiety and anticipation emanating from the uncertainty of who becomes the next Speaker for the Lagos State House of Assembly gets more intense. There are three members of Lagos State House of Assembly, who have just been elected and are presently jostling for this juicy position of N0 3 citizen of Lagos State. They are Hon. Saka Fafunmi, Hon. Ajayi Obasa and Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun.
Hon. Dayo Saka Fafunmi, a serving member of Lagos State House of Assembly, is so much interested in chairing the leadership of the House in the incoming administration. Hon Fafunmi, who has just been re-elected in the just concluded State of Assembly election for the third term under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), represents Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Constituency 1 of Lagos State. Hon. Saka Fafunully is presently the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account in the State, and many believe he has successfully utilized this position in monitoring finance meant for so many projects in all the local government areas of the state.
Another person, who is also interested in becoming the next Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, is Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. Indeed, Hon. Obasa is presently one of the high ranking members of Lagos State House of Assembly, having been a member of legislative body representing Agege Constituency 2 since 2003. He is presently the Chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget of Lagos State. Fortunately for him, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has just been re-elected again under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) into the Lagos State House of Assembly for the fourth time. Some of the leaders of All Progressive Congress in state believe that Hon. Obasa has the required experience to lead the incoming Lagos State House of Assembly members successfully and productively. And they are fully ready to give him support. Also, he is more likely to get the supports and votes of his colleagues in the Lagos State Legislative Chamber when the time is due. As a matter of fact, it was reliably gathered that Hon. Obasa is now moving from one place to another, lobbying and trying to win the incoming legislators and the stakeholders of the party to his side in order to ensure that he becomes the next Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly.
The last but not the least of those aspiring to be the next Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly is Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun. Hon. Eshinlokun has just been elected under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) for the first time as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Lagos Island Constituency 1. He was the immediate past Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government Council. The story of Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun becoming a Lagos State lawmaker-elect was so peculiar and interesting. Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni had contested the Lagos APC primaries for Lagos Island Constituency I seat with four other aspirants on December 2, 2014 primary elections, and he emerged the winner with 186 votes. The closest person to him was Hon. Hakeem Agboola-Masha, the incumbent lawmaker, who scored 70 votes. However, to Eshinlokun Sanni’s dismay, it was Hakeem Agboola-Masha’s name that was on the candidates’ list of INEC. The excuse given was that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party met based on a petition written by Hakeem Masha that Eshinlokun Sanni was one of the party members that signed his own nomination form and therefore, he was not qualified to contest the primary election with him.
Another point noted in this petition was that Eshinlokun Sanni had flouted one of the laws of the party by resigning his position as General Secretary of the party 16 days to the election instead of the 30 days stipulated by the party’s constitution. It was based on these allegations that NWC of the party was said to have nullified his election and substituted his name with that of Hakeem Agboola-Masha.
However, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun was given back his mandate, by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly election, which has been held on Saturday 11th of April 2015. A Federal High Court had given him back his mandate when it ordered INEC to restore his name on candidates’ register in place of Hon. Hakeem Agboola Masha, whose name was earlier forwarded by APC to INEC.
Today Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun is not just an incoming legislator of the Lagos House of Assembly; he has actually been penciled by some leaders of the party to be the next Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. This revelation has prompted many to wonder how reasonable and possible would it be for a one term legislator to be made a speaker that will preside over the long existing and senior legislative members. It would be recalled that there had been an allegation that the substitution of Eshinlokun Sanni’s name for Agboola Masha was aided by a powerful circle in the Lagos State House of Assembly, who were reacting to a speculation that Eshinlokun was being positioned as the next Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly.
However, today that speculation is now gradually becoming a reality as the same Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun has been anointed, by the power that be, as the next Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly. Could this eventually become a reality? How possible it is? Well in Nigerian politics, nothing, they say, is impossible especially when you have an almighty godfather by your side.

ABIKE DABIRI SETS TO BECOME THE NEXT LAGOS SSG (BY KOLA POPSON)

Hon. Kafayat Abike Dabiri-Erewa is set to become the next Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Lagos.
A reliable source, who has revealed this on the condition of anonymity, noted that Hon. Abike Dabiri has been unanimously marked by the leaders of All Progressive Congress in Lagos State as the next Secretary to the State Government in the incoming administration of Akinwunmi Ambode.
It is worth noting that Hon. Abike Dabiri is presently a third-term serving member of the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has been a member of the Federal House of Representatives since 2003.
Since the official declaration of General Muhammad Buhari of All Progressive Congress as the winner of the 2015 Presidential election, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, it was reliably gathered, has been lobbying for an appointment at the Federal level. However, the leaders of her party, having zoned the position of the next Lagos SSG to Ikorodu division, believe that Hon. Dabiri would better fit into this vital position of Lagos State than occupying any position at the Federal level.
Hon. Dabiri-Erewa has been very faithful and loyal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since she joined politics in 2003. Many believe that her faithfulness to Asiwaju Tinubu had actually earned her the party ticket to contest for the third term in the 2011 House of Representatives election, as she would have been defeated by other aspirants at the primary level. Though primary election had been conducted then, and she won, many believed this was due to the influential power of Asiwaju Tinubu on the delegates and the party as a whole. It would be recalled that Hon. Abike Dabiri had been a journalist and broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) before she eventually decided to join politics.
