President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday advised all public universities to access the N1.3tr made available through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to improve the quality of education in the country.

Jonathan, who is also Visitor to the Federal University of Technology, Minna, gave the advice at 24th Convocation Ceremony of the institution, held at the main campus, Gidan Kwano.

The President was represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie.

He said, “Government has, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, made provision for the sum of N1.3tr to be disbursed to all public universities to improve on the quality of university education with regards to infrastructural and personnel development.

“I, therefore, urge the management of this university to ensure the judicious use of its allocation from the intervention fund to enhance FUT, Minna.”

He lamented the challenge of unemployment as the daily reality of many graduates, urging public universities to include entrepreneurial education in the undergraduate curricula.

“We have also followed this up with such intervention projects as the Graduate Internship Scheme, Youth Enterprise with innovation (YouWin) and other opportunities through the National Directorate of Employment.”

The Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Prof. Rufa’I Alkali, said the Federal Government had positioned the Bank of Industry, the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria as well as micro finance banks to help develop small businesses that would reduce unemployment in the country.

Alkali commended the Federal Government for the N2.7bn allocation to the university under the Needs Assessment intervention to address the challenges of accommodation, provision of water, laboratories, workshop and equipment.

This is a good news.

I think ASUU will have to relax till next 20years after this but no, they'll look for another reason to go on strike.

Sometimes I ask what Buhari intends to do differently.

Even in the proposed fight against corruption, all we hear are jails, prosecution and punitive measures which cannot eliminate corruption in itself. So much noise, hype and propaganda. Without strengthening our institutions and putting in systems to check sharp practices like GEJ was doing ..... corruption will continue unabated across board

It might take some time for the average Nigerian to discern but very sensible minds understand already that we lost GEJ ....... he didn't lose.

medicine after death. We said we don't want him. Deal with it. Jonathan never tried to fight corruption. For every step Jonathan took forward, we took some backwards. The lecturers in those universities almost went on strike some few weeks back because they haven't even received the allocated money of 2014 talk less of 2015.

Medicine after dealth......... Repentance after Judgement.....

* ASUU went on strike for 6 months
* ASUP went on strike for 11 months
* Standard of our University falls.
* Increament in School fee due to low revenue from government. E.g OAU with 300% increase in tuition fee
* Improper Staff welfare
* Substandard facilities in the university.
* Inadequate Learning and Student welfare facilities
* etc.

Now you are leaving, miraculously the fund to solve all those problem became available. No Nigerian University ranked among Top 20 in Africa and Top 1000 in the world.

OAU used to be the best university and the university with the most beautiful campus in africa but that is then. Imagine, OAU and UI were built with Cocoa revenue. Today we have Oil and Oyel, we have nothing to show for it.

Liar. He is such a pathetic liar. He told ASUU that the money will only be released installmentally...200 Billion ever year. Yet...he couldn't release the fund. Pls tell me...is money something a sane president has to "urge" universities to use...after they even went on 6 Months strike over it? He is only trying to sound nice...ask him to produce the money first...and he will redirect you to a special committee set up at the CBN to review the recommendations of another conmittee set up to study the agreement FG made with ASUU

My friend we didn't lose GEJ, he lost himself. But the defeat made him to retrace his steps although, it was too late then.

That should be GMBs problem. Besides, how will Buhari stop ASUU strike in the next two years?
That's an important question.

GEJ / ruling party are still behaving as if they are campaigning for the presidency.

Clearly they know that America is secretly working to remove Buhari at all costs.

the tetfund can not be converted to personal use...the monies are paid tru the institutions directly into the account of the beneficiaries..the beneficiaries must be studying in the country or overseas at postgraduate levels, they also sign bonds to serve the institutions on the completion of their studies.
