NigeriaDrug abusers in  Nigeria who need help can now go online after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), unveiled  online anti-drug abuse/trafficking counselling services.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA Ahmadu Giade, has said that online anti-drug abuse/trafficking counselling services are now available to interested members of the public

The Times reports that the agency has been taking steps to address the growing need for anti-drug abuse/trafficking sensitization with a total of 21,634 persons benefitting from NDLEA offline counselling service nationwide between 2010 and 2014.

“Online counselling will complement existing offline counselling platforms across our formations nationwide. We introduced online counselling to provide our services to people, especially youths at the comfort of their homes.

Besides, it is easy to access, providing clients greater comfort and convenience. The confidentiality involved also makes whoever is seeking information to be open-minded and bond easily with counsellors.

Already, the services can be accessed via email address ddr@ndlea. gov.ng and twitter handle @ ndlea_nigeria. Very soon the Facebook account and tollfree phone calls will be activated to further expand our scope of operation,” said Giade.

Counselling hardly has any effect on the use or abuse of drugs. Even when abusers are compelled to go to rehab, a good percentage of them still go back to the drugs. If you doubt me, ask Amy Winehouse. You might have to travel very long distances to find her though.

Drug users/addicts wont heed to no counselling. ..much less the one "online"...they need complete rehabilitation.

They should just leave them, at least for time being. We don't need to waste resources on unrepentant chronic drug users. Nigeria should concentrate on more pressing issues than waste resources on those goners. Physical rehabilitation can't rehab them, shey na online rehabilitation go rehab those goners? We should just pray them jare.

This is a very good initiative because of the stigma attached to visiting rehabs in this country. We also have an increasing number of addicts across the country and so this came at the right time
