I think Mr Wale Goodluck had gotten it wrong by saying that Nigerians will suffer more if MTN decides to close down its offices.

Let's get down to the fact lane. MTN has licence to operate in 22 countries. Nigeria has 57.224 million subscribers making it the country with the highest number of subscribers among these 22 countries. Nigerian number of subscribers represent 27.210% of the MTN's 210.304 million subscribers. It should be noted that excluding Iran which has 41.783 million subscribers, South Africa with 24.873 subscribers, Ghana with 13.055 subscribers and Nigeria, the remaining 18 countries pulled roughly 75 million subscribers altogether.

Nigeria being the highest in term of subscribers has proven to be a country where generate its highest revenue (profit).MTN being a profit oriented company will not want to do something that will make it lose a lot of profit and its customers to other competitors like GLO and Airtel. Due to this fact, do you think MTN will be willing to lose their stronghold in terms of profit and subscribers to other competitors?

While analysing Goodluck's statement, I discovered that he made the threat to instigate fear into the protesting masses from continue their vows. He made the statement out of fear because he knows that Nigerians are determined people and always protest when there is injustice (according to a post on Nairaland). He knows that if Nigerians carry out their threat, MTN will lose a lot of money. He made the statement to prevent the Protestants from carrying out their vows.
It should also be noted that the fear of what Nigerians will if they fail to condemn the xenophobia made it to send messages to the subscribers after Nigerians had vowed to retaliate on SA companies in Nigeria.

My conclusion is that the closing down of offices by MTN will have two effects. One effect is the loss of 6000 works by Nigerians and benefit of 500,000 Nigerians while the second effect is the loss of Nigeria, the stronghold of MTN's profit and subscribers. In your opinion do you think MTN can carry out this threat? In my own opinion, it can't carry out this due to d loss it will incurred. The country will try to curb the attack cos " South African businesses operating
in sub-Saharan Africa would suffer"( according to a post on Nairaland).

Let's disregard the threat and carry out our vow; note that " Companies including Sasol Ltd. and Kenmare Resources
Plc have repatriated South African employees working in
Mozambique following threats of reprisal attacks," if Mozambique can do it, then Nigeria can also do it.
