It was a dark weekend in the Polytechnic community of Unwana, Ebonyi state last Friday, 17th April 2015 as three ND 1 Public Administration students got drown in Unwana beach a day after their matriculation ceremony. Thursday, 16th April 2015 was a lovely, bubbling day as the entire Polytechnic community celebrated the matriculation ceremony for their new students. The individual parties continued late into the night. Little did we know that the jubilation will be short-lived as it will become a thick-sorrow just the next day. The three victims, Isu Chioma, Ogbonna Eddy Miriam and Uguba Chioma with two others, Amarachi and Shontel were said to have left for the beach in the afternoon after they returned from school on Friday. According to an eye-witness account by Amarachi who is a sister to one of the victim, they crossed over to the other side of the river where they were swimming before the three drowned. The other two raised alarm and a team of rescue team were dispatched to search for them. The girls were buried the next day as the entire polytechnic community was thrown into mourning. One of the girls is from Unwana, one hails from Afikpo while one is a native of Isikwuato in Abia State. MAY THEIR SOUL REST IN PEACE UNDER THE BOSSOM OF THE LORD!
