My dear you are mistaking the two. Frog you find in swampy areas. They are generally wet, slippery and can jump a distance of 4m in one leap. But toads are though that are usually found around your house at night. Their skin are generally dry which contain a poisnous gland. Both are edible depending on the region. Like the frogs, they are edible in some parts of Nigeria. The toad are a delicacy for the indians and chinese. The skin the toad before eating etc.
Chubbiehills:
toad is konkoo, frog is opolo.
op, the edible one is toad.u find dem in swampy areas and they usually make noise at night

u are not versed in yoruba language...u got it wrong, pls ask the elderly ones at home. Opolo=toad , konkoo/oyaan= frog.

bros ,in yoruba land we call frogs opolo and toads konko and toads are very edible , u can always see hausa traders hawking it all over the market . It is roasted dry just like bonga fish . So toad is very very edible.
bro u are wrong....it is frog that is called konkoo while toad is called opolo. Toad has a poisonous gland, so it is not edible while frog is 100%edible. i eat frog alot, i prefers frog to fish. My bro taste konkoo and ur life would not remain d same

Seems you grow in the city. Am 100 per cent sure,toad is opolo and frog is konkoo. Ask people around you.

Thats wrong... Toad is Konkoo, Frog is Opolo!

Theres a yoruba saying that goes "Opolo o jo Konko..." means... "Frog does not resemble Toad"

That phrase is used when trying to compare things!!!

#Please learn...

***edit
Just googled it... Frog is Konko!

e dakun, nibo ni e ti ko iwe alakoobere yin? I keep hearing words of mistaken identity. Even a simple google search will show u the difference.

Like someone said abt Sunny song "Merciful God": "Bi opolo se n yan loju elegusi, ti elegusi ko gbodo yi lata..."

Meaning opolo is not edible and it is poisonous. Opolo is toad, konkoo is frog and we also have a family of Konkoo(frog) in Yoruba that is called Akere.

u make this mistake because u are probably a Yoruba. Why did I say so? Okay let me explain:

Frog = Akere
Toad= Opolo

But Yoruba make d mistake of thinking that frog= opolo. Frog has no poison and it is actually called akere in Yoruba but many Yoruba ppl think that frog= opolo
not all my brother and the Yoruba didn't make that mistake. Those who are making the mistake are children( the majesins) that are not versed in Yoruba culture... I am afraid for this our generation, if simple distinction between frog(konkoo) and toad(opolo) they can't make, how will they even know leaves by their names.

Now what you have written, the yoruba demarcation of aquatic life is this : Opolo= Toad
Frog= konkoo/Oyaan....Akere is another specie of Koonko(frog) which can leap to a far distance more than frog itself. Have you heard why they group this two together? We know they both live very close to water unlike toad which is everywhere. Just hear this proverb:

"Akere diju, Konkoo diju, alakan maa wo ito mi, aiti todoo tosi ni."

Meaning those three mentioned in the aquatic proverb are edible. So, Yoruba fathers didn't make a mistake, it is the "inarobos" in yoruba acquatic knowledge that are confused

Delicious or Detestable? See How Frogs Are Prepared in Benue (PHOTOS)

Smoked frogs are a delicacy for some, but not all Benue people.

Philip Paul is a frog seller - and he and his wife and daughter love to eat them. The family hails from central Benue state but live in the north-east, where people are not so keen on them.

The 25-year-old says the frogs are so easy to catch that he grabs them with his bare hands. At night he puts a bit of bait on rope and when the frogs jump he just reaches for them.

He then skewers them on a stick. Since 2008 he has made a business out of catching frogs in Adamawa state and exporting them to Benue, where they love them.

Mr Paul dries out the frogs by the side of his house in full view for his neighbours. This has not persuaded them to have a taste.

Once the frogs have been out in the sun for six or seven hours, Mr Paul smokes them.

The frogs are classified by size. He sells a skewer of 37 small frogs for N250

The stick with 34 medium frogs costs N300 and the stick with 24 large frogs is N600.

The frogs are cooked in a stew with spices, tomatoes, onions and chillies. Mr Paul tells his neighbours they taste better than fish but they remain unconvinced.
Will you eat this?
