Ex-gen Calls For Documentation Of Nigerian Army’s Campaign Th by missbehave247(m): 8:02am On Apr 27, 2015
The immediate past Chief of Policy and Plans of
the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bassey
(retd.), has called for effective documentation of
the Military campaign against the insurgency in
the North-East.

According to the Bassey, this measure is
necessary to enhance operational efficiency in the
Army in future operations.

The retired General expressed his opinion while
delivering a valedictory address at the pulling out
ceremony organised for 31 retired Army generals
at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, on April 24,
2015.

Bassey called for a periodic review of the methods
and logistics for combat operations in the Army
with a view to achieving improved combat
efficiency and readiness.

Bassey took the opportunity to commend the
Army for the recorded successes against the Boko
Haram insurgency in the North-East. However, he
also challenged the Army authorities to sustain
the tempo of the ongoing military action.

He called the attention of officers and soldiers of
the Army to the importance of acquired
experiences within the military and even after the
years in the service.

“The current security challenge that the Nigerian
Army currently faces comes to mind as we the
retired officers follow the trend of events that
affect our constituency – the military.

“The Army must carefully document its
experiences in the ongoing operations in the
North-East with a view to improving on its overall
combat efficiency.

“Combat operation methods and logistics must be
reviewed amongst others to enhance combat
readiness and efficiency.
“It is heart-warming however, to note that
significant progress has been made in the fight
against terrorism. The Army must therefore
sustain the current momentum and put this
difficult moment of our national history behind
us.”

The Chief of Policy and Plans of the Nigerian
Army, Maj. Gen. Ugo Buzugbe, represented the
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah, at
the event. In his speech he stressed the vital role
of training and loyalty in the military career and
operations.

Meanwile, the president-elect, Muhammadu
Buhari, has recently stated that his administration
will accord to priority to the task of ending Boko
Haram insurgency in the North-East.

He said that his administration would enhance
collaboration with governments of Chad, Niger
and Cameroon to curtail the trans-border
movement of Boko Haram terrorists, cut supply of
arms, cut recruitment and training of fresh
recruits.
