This is one of my major grouses with theists especially the Nigerian ones. You guys like lying a lot!!!Make your point and leave.Don't come here and post lies and believe everyone here are just as foolish as you are. That young man in the photo was forced to penetrate that goat by theists I presume(You see why many call you guys 'Abrahamic perverts'?) because he tried to steal it and what is this trash you claimed about only humans masturbating?Other primates including gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos also masturbate so shut it.By the way, evolutionarily, human male masturbation serves the purpose of getting rid of 'old' sperm when a man hasn't had sex for a while. So, that makes it a very normal human behaviour

Jesus said: looking at a woman lustfully is adultery in action how then do you masturbate without having wrong fantasy? It is high level of sexual perversion that need not be encouraged. Those indulging in it should go for deliverance from the spirit of lust ..The moment the demon is cast out the urge will cease .

Once again, they have left the issue of selfless service and are busy arguing over self service
Is no surprise to me though. Our various orientations about these subjects simple tells alot about how the church community is building or minds. Minoring on the majors and vice versa.
It's easy to gain remarks on things that aren't the core issues. Jesus NEVER ONCE SAID THE WORD 'MASTURBATION', HOWEVER HE SAID THE WORD 'SELFLESS' MORE THAN 3 TIMES. But we choose to dwell on what isn't the core ish.
Op, I bet if we attach the word 'money' to 'selfless' then, we might get the adequate level of trend we seek. I am a child of God. My highest calling is to be selfless! What I do in my closet is between me and Him. But my being selfless can change the world.

Early morning....and people singing....Self service of selfless service?

The truth is, most of us people....I don't just mean Christians....prefer self service to selfless service. As I write this, I am just finishing one busy night call....where I have had to run up and down sorting out issues after issues with patients.(And when I am done writing this...I have to go see to a rather ill patient).Selfless service does not move the world for me. I am not happy having to think about others, put others first. What about me? Why can't my needs be satisfied.?

I guess that what keeps me on the selfless service team is that somewhere....someone benefits from the running around that I do on behalf of others. Because I was here....and not at home sleeping or watching Premier league....perhaps a life got saved. Perhaps someone is alive. And even if I am not sucessful...someone gets to see a complete stranger caring if their family member lives or dies.If that is not seeing God in unusual places...what is.

But selflessness is preping us too for our future lives....which leads me to self service(Now...time to chat about that stuff grin). See....the reason why I do not think that self service honors God is that it is born out of lust....not love. And it can damage people's expectations (ie...the chap who thinks that images of women are better than real women.). But...not doing self service is a form of selfless service....to your furue spouse. Because if you think those rule 34 thoughts disappear when you get married.....think again.! Not doing self service prepares you for the future....where you would learn to be loyal to your spouse...and where you would be able to practice self control. Because....when you need that.......bit of initmacy.....spouse may not be ready, or may not be around. So what are you going to do? (Me...I guess i should play some Marvin Gaye....let's get it oooon.... grin..oops I am a Christian....get rid of that music...!). Selfless service in the light of sex prepares you for a world where it is OTHER PEOPLE'S NEEDS BEFORE OTHERS. Because.....no one is perfect. And if you can still put them before others....as a result of the discipline gained from not doing it....then you not only honour God....you make such people feel loved and appreciated....even if they do not say thank you for your sacrifice.

We are supposed to live life as servants of all. Self service prevents us from living that life....from gaining that opportunity to learn to put other's needs before our own. And why should the image of a woman be better than the real thing? Why? If you are not ready to wait for the benefits of selflessness.....loyalty, peace of mind, and most importantly....a heart that really really loves other people....then you are not selfless. And that does not usually end well.

If you must be great in the Kingdom....you must be a servant of all. Not a servant of self. Because.....being a servant of all helps you to see many things you would never see....

Hhhmmm.
Good argument.
I almost fell for it.
Thank god I didn't. grin

Me thinks there should be a fair balance between serving others and service of self.

Let's see who agrees with me.
wink

Why? How does an adult playing with his dicckk affect ur God?

it does matter to God!

The reason is, anything that goes against the natural order of things, is a perversion, and thus a sin.

Masturbation is an issue Christians cannot ignore. With little regard to gender, age, or even marital status, what is sometimes called solo-sex plunges many of us into the pit of guilt and the despondency of defeat.

Take for instance, Babies of both sexes can discover how to give themselves genital pleasure long before their first birthday. We might conclude from this that masturbation is obviously “natural” and therefore morally neutral. A moment’s thought, however, blows this logic to shreds. It is equally “natural” for little children to lie, steal, slander, bash each other and break any commandment they have the strength to break. If morality were decided on the basis of what humans do the moment they gain the ability to do it, life would be horrific.

Morality is about choosing what is right above our natural inclinations.

First of all, sex was created by God for procreative purposes, physical enjoyment, and the demonstration of intimacy between a husband and a wife. In this context, the sexual act is intended to occur in a healthy marriage relationship between husband and wife in purity and holiness. In contrast to this, masturbation is the self-stimulation to the point of sexual release without the gifting of a spouse. Thus, masturbation is a denial of the sexual design for couples.

What of the principle of purity that is obviously true. Does masturbation fall under the category of purity?
We can say this for sure. Since masturbation involves sexual fantasies and/or pornography, then it is certainly not pure and is very sinful.
The Bible clearly teaches that our minds are as important to God as our bodies are and that we are to remain pure in both.

Masturbation is centered on Lust, a product of the abundance of your thoughts. Thus, In Matt. 5:27-28, Jesus said that thinking lustful thoughts is sinful. Therefore, masturbation involving sexual fantasies is undoubtedly sinful.

But this brings up the issue of a spouse masturbating while thinking of his/her spouse. Is it sinful? Again, since the Bible does not declare it sinful, can we? Let's say that a wife is incapacitated by an accident and is in the hospital for an extended period of time. Is it alright for the husband to masturbate if he thinks only of his wife in order to relieve sexual tension? Again, without a specific declaration of Scripture, it is difficult to pronounce it as sinful, as one may think. But On the one hand, his body is not his own, and it is for his wife; and he is not to be mastered by anything ( 1 Cor. 6:12). But on the other hand, she is not available. Would his masturbation be sinful should he commit it if he only thought of his wife? Well, like we said, his body is not his alone, and so he can not satisfy himself alone.

Furthermore, what if a person masturbates in order to reduce the sexual urge in an attempt to not commit fornication? Certainly, actual fornication would be a sin, and masturbation would be preferable in this instance. But does this mean that the person is being mastered by the flesh? If so, then that would be wrong. But, does it mean then that a self-release of sexual tension is then acceptable if it is to avoid fornication? Again, this is a lame excuse because the bible, in Galatians 5 vs 19, talked about lasciviousness, which is a strong desire to have sex upon sex, a habit that a believer shouldnt have.

Let's look at some verses that speak of sexual morality.

*. 1 Cor. 6:18, "Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body."

*.The Greek word for "immorality" isporneia which means illicit sexual intercourse, i.e., fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, etc. The English word "pornography" is derived from this Greek word.
*. Eph. 5:3, "But do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you, as is proper among saints."
*.Again, the word for "immorality" isporneia.
*. Col. 3:5, "Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry."
*.Evil desire?

*. 1 Thess. 4:2-5, "For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God."

Masturbation like i said is based on lust, hence, is an immoral act which in turn is wrong and sinful before God!.

Masturbation like i said is based on lust, hence, is an immoral act which in turn is wrong and sinful before God!.

What about women who profess an intimate love for Jesus, and often fall into an ecstatic trance while praying and calling the name of Jesus.?
No lusts involved, or is holy lust an exception?

Let me use this opportunity to ask whether anyone else sees the striking parallels between Christian prayers and the act of self-service?
Seriously.

Is prayer not a form of self-service?
Same mindset is involved.

In both cases, in privacy, a person seeks deep intimate mingling with an imaginary, adored heavenly body, be it Jesus, God, Angel Gabriel, Nkiru Sylvanus kiss, Genevieve Nnaji or Rihanna.

In both cases, soft and loud praises are said. It often starts slowly at first, and then the tempo gradually increases.
In both cases, fists are clenched, feet may stamped, superlative words are yelled, undying love and loyalty are professed.

And , of course, in both cases, the imagined intimate encounter reaches a climax when the practioner yells out " Hallelujah ",
then sighs a deep breath, wipes the face with handkerchief, and then goes about the daily business.

Can anyone spot the difference?

Self-Service, Selfless Service And Christian Morality. How are these related to one another in our real world, especially in Nigeria ?

A casual observer will note that at any given time in the front page of NL religious section, one would find many threads and OPs on Self-Service, but hardly any at all on Selfless-Service. shocked

Is the message of Jesus lost in translation, or , is there something much more pernicious going on the deep inside the psyches of Nigerian Christians?

Please help me examine this disturbing distortion of moral responsibility.

Let's see who is the first to comment. cheesy

Sorry I am late, but let me explain to you what you've observed.
My explanation is going to be largely in the flesh. Don't say una don come again.
It would make more sense to you if I talk on the flesh level because you and I can both understand it

Here we go:
Quite a number of us Christians are fixated on laws. Its a carry over from the Jewish roots of our beliefs
The laws tend to largely say "do not" regarding tangible things, then speaks of woes to come after you do break them
Whereas it is easy to say do-not self service, it is quite difficult to say do not not selfless service

Yes, we do have threads that encourage selfless service, but they are not as attractive as the "do-not" threads
the only ones that we sometimes collapse into the selfless service definitions and are fairly attractive also follow the same pattern
1) for example, do-not rob God in tithes payment (2) do-not insult a MOG

Once again, these ones tend to speak of woes if you fail to abide with the terms, and blessings if you do abide with them

Hope you now understand were we are coming from.

Kind regards

I guess Christians seem to ignore one of the prime directives of Jesus, where he said:
" point not at the spec in another's eye while ignoring the log in thine own eyes ".

It's always easier to see what others are doing wrong rather than ponder whether you are doing right.

Sorry to burst your bubble.. Just because you're in the medical field does not make your actions "selfless service " for crying out loud you get a pay check and you were trained to offer this service of care to your clients.

Going by your explanation of selfless service There are very many non belivers in that line of work who actually give excellent care to their patients because it's the right thing to do not because they are servants to a kingdom. As a matter of fact you are self servicing, at the end of the day your own personal gain is your main quest.. Is it not!? You want to make your god happy so YOU can gain access to his heavenly mansion with streets paved in gold. You're a self servicer.. cheesy
