Nigeria: Civil Defence Holds First Promotion Exam in 12 Years

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is to hold its first-ever promotion exams since it was started 12 years ago in 2003.

The exams will hold for senior staff between level 7 to 14 in Superintendent and Inspectorate cadres as well as level 15 and 16 respectively, said an official statement from the corps.

The absence of any promotion exams in the past has led to insinuations of under-the-table deals.

But the Corps spokesman Emmanuel Okey debunked allegations that appointment and promotion were being done through the back door or meant for the highest bidder.

Okeh insisted that the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, and Prison Service board, in charge of appointment, promotion and discipline in the agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior, will conduct the promotion examination, assuring that there will be no mischief of what so ever.

"This exam does not require payment of money of whatsoever; therefore, anyone found talking about money should be arrested," commandant-general of the corps Ade Abolurin said in the statement.
