Hi guys, forget about what you think of bayelsa state, or what you've always read online, bayelsa is a very cool place.

Wherever it is you are coming from, all you need do is stop at kaiama junction, from there you'll get a N100 bike to camp.

When you arrive, there'll be a line of whities like you, you'll get an entrance number, and also get searched, after which persons from NCCF will assist you in carrying your bag(s) to a safe place for keeping.

The next step is you going for a bed space, this will be allotted to you in front of the dinning room(that's what its called). When you get a space, you'll go to the store(extreme right from the dining hall) to sign up for a foam, then you can go set up your bed space, in that same vein, you can also hire one of the kids around, to fix your net for you.

Afterwards, you'll go back to the hall, there will be different lines for different zones, you will join the appropriate line, and turn in your documents, and then get your NYSC BY number.

As you should know, the last digit on this BY number will be your platoon number, now if your number is 127, you'll have to scout around for the platoon officer of platoon 7 to get your kit.

Then the 'find your size' hunt starts.

You van forget anything, but not your white rubber shoe and mosquito net(you can buy them in camp tho).

Now about the groups on camp, there's the band, red cross and OBS. The OBS guys are the super-cool guys. People will envy you, and you will see them pretend to hate you because every other person will see you as cool.

You will be told, times without number, that no preferential treatment in PPA posting, but that's a lie.

To get posted around the state capital, join the OBS.

As for bayelsa state, I served in yenagoa, I heard stories of ogbia, otuoke and others, they had accommodation for corps members, only a few schools in yenagoa have corps member apartments, then there are other corpers lodges spreaded around yenagoa, there's one in azikoro, one at ebis, e.t.c...


Accommodation is quite expensive in yenagoa, I got a self con apartment for 140k even after begging, the housing agents are cons, so avoid them. Most landlords want you to pay for 2 years, so be ready to negotiate on that.

Everything in bayelsa is expensive, even fish , I thought that having lived in port Harcourt, I'd be able to cope, but that was me deceiving myself. A plate of good food is about 400-500 naira, maybe you can find a place of 250, of you're lucky.

Yenagoa is my fun capital, there's a lounge/club/hotel on every street, Friday night is fun, the city is safe, except the gwe-gwe/swali/arietalin area where thieves are caught every other day. They stole my shoe once

The memories can never die, bayelsa is fun.

Welcome in advance to bayelsa...I'm currently serving there n I can't wait to leave. some of you might enjoy it tho. A little heads up...make sure your white shoes are made of rubber. When we were in camp, we were not allowed to wear shorts with pockets or use waist bags. don't know if that policy would change for u guys. For those coming from Lagos, God is good motors, agofure motors go to bayelsa. just tell the driver to stop you at kaima junction then you take a bike from there to d camp. its about 50-100 naira. Cross country motors also offer camp services ie they go straight to d camp. last year, Lagos to kaima camp was 6k. don't know how much it costs now.
For those of you who want to influence your ppa posting to yenagoa, bear in mind that the cost of living in bayelsa is a little on d high side especially accommodation. whatever you do, do not rent a house where there are no drainage systems in d street, you'll absolutely regret it. So make sure to check d area n ask questions before renting a place.
