Good day my fellow Compatriots, we all voted for the Change and I think we all collectively made the right choice on March 28th of 2015. Below are some reviews of other fellow Compatriots about the Nigerian Embassy in New York - A.K.A The Nigeria House. Your excellency; President-Elect General Muhammadu Buhari, Sir we need a change in our embassies around the world, especially in Asia, South Africa, Canada, United Kingdom and The United States of America. Please hire new people, Nigerians of high reputation in civil service or in the private sector, not by man know man, please we need a change for real.

I have no wahala with the Nigeria embassy. They are ok. I have a MAJOR MAJOR issue with the payment system. it is a pain in the neck when you need to make payment for more than one person or for someone else without same last name. all my complains below is for the payment system.
1) The whole customer service department should be fired.
2) there needs to be another rival payment option other than this innovate. But who am i kidding. this is naija. someone gave the contract to their friend. Who only cares about collecting money and not improving the system/service. To top it off. He outsourced it to cheap labor in India...
3) It takes you hours to get through to the unhelpful customer service department.
4) They do not respond to emails.
5) They give you generic answer after you have given them detailed explanation of what you have done. They cannot think outside the box.
6) They should be able to process payment over the phone if a customer is having problems making the payment online after verifications.
7) Nigeria Embassy need to start accepting money order at the embassy.

It should not feel like a death sentence to get a passport/Visa.

Had a mixed feeling before going there, friends and relatives were not too positive about my mission getting accomplished that same day, that was the same feeling by most of the applicant.
But it turns out the reverse was the case as we were welcome by one Mrs Debie pardon me for the wrong spelling, she was the consulate attachee ,she was professional, great customer service, friendly and motherly caring for everyone.
The bottom line is she and the other employees went beyond and above to make sure we had our passport the same day.
i will surely recommend that new applicants should make there their first chioce but please go with the require paper work.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA

Horrible customer service. The woman who was on the phone on the 5th of February 2015 was absolutely rude, cursed like a drunken sailor, and then cut the phone when I asked for clarification about the renewal of my International passport. It is such a shame that Nigeria spends so much money to employ people of such a low caliber.

So as this is the second time a Nigerian consulate has cost me (the first time was the uber useless canadian one located in ottawa), I feel compelled to write a review.
I went to this consulate to renew a passport that was near expiry since the planned trip to Nigeria which was when it was to have been renewed had to be cancelled due to ebola outbreak (don't get me started on how these idiots knew there was an outbreak a few countries over, months before and didn't start screening if not on a federal level at airports at least by the fracking state governments that had international airports situated in their states).
So i get to this place and the printer is broken, which is fine as these things happen but you'd think they'd have a backup machine given the volume of passports they print or at least have a service contract that ensures a 24hr turn around time, but no. What really gets my goat is that they have a website where you can easily update citizens who'd be coming around for one thing or another on situations like this (setting this up is the most trivial thing you can do in the software/computer infrastructure world), but that would make sense right?
if they had done this once the passports was ready those of us that could and had urgent time-critical things to do with the passports would have come around to pick them up, which in my case has now cost me hundreds of dollars even though the passport was ready in time for what i wanted to do but the yahoos at these place couldn't figure out how to streamline and make a simple notification process available either publicly or privately via email addresses (which was provided during the application process) to the various clients of their services.
By the sword of Ogun and the Palm Oil of Esu, may each and every worker at this consulate who was involved lose hundreds of dollars in the comming weeks and months ...

FEELING BITTERED.
Got humiliated by a costumer service representative of the Nigerian Immigration services. I called to reschedule my VISA renewal appointment about an hour ago. I suggested her to send me a confirmatory email for d change in date. She washed me like cloth saying that am telling her how to do her job and hung d phone on me. I regret not recording d conversation. I was skeptical of their Fidelity cos am traveling all d way from Houston. M.A rom Houston.

It was actually a good experience, contrary to what I had heard or was expecting. Mrs. Dibia gave a long but funny speech. I got my passport the same day and I did not even have to beg or cry. Just go there early and make sure you have all the documents stated on the website.

Cheers.

Cannot get anyone on the phone in the NY Embassy. The phone system goes goes in a loop no matter what option you choose. These folks have received my passport. Is this a joke?
Our government should demand they close that circus house if these folks continue to operate that way.

I literally got off the phone with a woman with a british accent so immediately I thought I would be treated with respect. Of course that was not the case at all. She had the most disgusting "why don't you just help yourself" attitude. I know some Nigerians are not the most polite people, from past experiences and because I used to live there, but lord have mercy you do not need to have a job answering phones if you are going to be so disgusting. Your unwillingness to help anyone is so unnecessary. You shouldn't work there and someone should be listening to how you are turning people AWAY . Good job.

Auntie at the visa desk came 30 minutes early to explain the documentation needed. (Which 3/4 of the people waiting did NOT have) The other lady who helped me told me what I needed to process my visa and it was ready the next morning as soon as I hit there which was opening! They actually processed some emergency cases the same day.

Unfortunately, the staff here is under appreciated. I had made an appointment years before as a 19 year-old to find what products I could export to Nigeria and the minister spent over an hour going over the import list and how to navigate the process of doing business in Nigeria.

I love Nigeria House. Ignore the complaints of entitled Nigerians. The staff is small, but they work very hard here.

I think it is shameful that there is Never anyone to pick up a phone at the Nigerian embassy NY. The phone will ring to a point, goes to voice mail repeatedly and no staff ever picks it up. This behaviors is really shameful.

Haha.. I was actually very surprised that this place was actually smaller than I expected ( better than Nigeria where its to crowded) I also received my passport on the same day, which is a PLUS!!
VERY VERY Good Service.
The People - By people , I mean the customers- can actually be Rude to the people serving them, very impatient. _ which makes the officials seem BAD.
MY ADVICE : If You Want to Get things Done, Get all Your documents READY And patiently wait in line because You WILL be there all DAY. In the END it's worth it. Just be patient.
ALSO > THE people giving bad reviews are part of the reason Nigeria is the way it is.. LOL

Namaste my friends ! SEE you in 5 Years..

Was there 2 weeks ago. The people that work there are incredibly rude, lack respect and are very miserable. They talk to people anyhow and even yell at customers. No organization and if they like you, then move you up in the line. Many people that arrived after me were attended to first and I had ALL of the required paperwork and got there when they opened. They don't even deserve one star.

Thumbs up Nigerian Embassy Newyork.I was really surprised to receive good service.I submitted my application and received my passport the same day.The service was swift and the staff were friendly even taking time out to make the kids feel comfortable. The only negative experience was at the front desk. The lady who collected the application was kind of rude, even though she achieved the job,her tone was wrong. However on average I must say they got it right this time.Let's hope you will keep it up! Good job!

If there was a review less than Poor, that’s the score they deserve. The New York Nigerian Embassy should learn from the Washington Dc Embassy. After so many trials of phone calls someone finally picks up and who is it? A douche bag lady, that calls herself a controller with a fake British accent. By the way she never gives out her name. She is so rude and obnoxious. she tell you she will direct you to the right office but ends up giving you her own opinion, tells you she can tell you what ever she feel like and lets you know you can't do anything about with a threatens to drop the call. And then when you ask her to speak to someone else or what’s her name? Guess what!!! She drops the phone call on you and never pick up. She should be fired she is the only one with that Fake British accent and there are no two of them. I’m not sure how she got that Job. She is a douchebag!!! And a ******* fill in the blanks

It is just OK. The floor assigned to be used for Passport services and Visa applications is a bit small, and therefore is usually crowded. The staff there are like regular government staff in Nigeria, so do not expect them to go over and beyond to satisfy their customers.

If you want to use their services, visit their website and read the information pages thoroughly, Do not skip any steps, because if you do, and show up at this consulate, the could get rude with you.

Contrary to what I heard and read before my visit,I had a pleasant experience. The staff were good, polite and funny. I had lot of jokes from one of the female staff she gave some kind of pep talk. The air was working so there was no cranky moment and the best of all my visit was successful.I hope they keep it up. By the way, the food vendor sure cooks well.

Yes, the service is really bad, but we all need to stop complaining and find a way of getting better services. Firstly, it starts with getting the consulate staff some training in customers services and relations, obviously the Ambassador and senior diplomats don't think this is important, hence the bad disgruntled service we get. Secondly, we Nigerians are very impatient and obnoxious as customers, behavior that generally would have been rewarded by an escort out the office by a security officer into a waiting Police car is often exhibited, so I don't blame the Consulate staff for continuing with such bad attitudes. Two wrongs obviously don't make a right, so until we start making complaints to the right office, and we change our attitudes and live by setting the right example, things will remain the SAME!
Tip: Have your originals, copies and required money orders. As soon as you enter any waiting area make sure you collect your tally number and make sure you're noticed by greeting the officer or inquiring if you're in the right place, even if she/he grunts back. On the humorous side, anybody going to Nigeria for the first time, receives a very honest image of what to expect when you get to Nigeria, preventing any culture shock. cheesy

I know its probably more popular to bash the Consulate and it's staff...sorry to disappoint. Was there just today & had a very good experience as has been the case for many I know. Our common denominator....we all carefully read the posted instructions for the services we were seeking and followed them!!! As long as you follow clearly articulated instructions via internet or posted all over the (rather untidy) walls in the consulate, it is a regular efficient and professional experience. Only problem, during my 2.5hrs there, 80% of those who came in had either NOT read the instructions, properly followed them or remained uninterested in following them once explained to them. Rather, they preferred to blame the consulate staff for giving them "wahala". Not true. Mine and several other "minority" voices are proof that if you simply pay attention to the rules (as you have to for similar services around the world), then you'll do just fine. My second time around in 5 yrs. Both positive experiences. Got my passport renewed as promised via DC embassy without any problems whatsoever. Mailed back to me within 10 days. Kudos to the staff, keep up the good work.

I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt. But I must say that I was not all that pleased with the service I received at the Consulate. They were never rude to me. In fact, they were quite nice. But it's still a headache and a waste of time going there to process anything. You take a whole day out of work, child out of school, yet you still have to come back for some stupid reason. I don't get it. When are we ever going get with the program?

Yes, I went to the Nigerian Embassy to simply get my passport, now I followed the instructions on the web site to the T, because I anticipated a bureaucratic nigthmare and boy was I right.

My question is how could the employees of the Nigerian Consulate AKA ( RAT HOLE), receive exceptional customer service, respect and efficiency from the many services they receive by being in the Untied States. Instead, they go back to thier RAT HOLE and deliver sub-par service to their "Citizens". I am disappointed and frankly embarassed by them.

So... My BRODAS if you are going to that RAT HOLE be prepeared to spend all day watching RATS running from room to room being as inefficient as can be, and embarrasing Nigerians as well as Nigeria.

We need to train our folks on how to be civil to others especially in customer facing roles.Though the process for new passport applications seems straight (once you figure out the requirements) the work attitude in the High Commision bothers on a total disregard for applicants - from the cramped and hot waiting room to the lady who was tasked with giving out the issued passports. She was sitting right in front of everyone with a stack of new passports and receiving private calls on her cell without bothering to explain why we had to wait for 30 minutes just to pick up a passport. We can certainly do better than this!

POOR SERVICE. Even if you are the very first person there and you don't know anybody, nobody will give you any information until they are done with their friends then they will talk to you. Worst service in the whole world. Even the people working there don't even know what to do. They give you the wrong advice even when you ask so beware, just ask those that are actually processing the application. And the clerks at the lobby are rude and "cranky" like they don't even wanna see their fellow Nigerians. I recommend trying another consulate general. I know I will in the future.

Staff at the embassy are unprofessional especially one Mrs Silver who is fair skin in complexion when attending to my mother.when she asked us to get a $20 money order when asked for the additional fee after paying $112 online she rudely replied "don't you see other people with money order?" as if we knew "her so called other people" purpose to the consulate 07/14/09. people like this tarnish the image of our beloved country.or shouldn't visit nigeria anymore?

the trust of the matter is that they get the job and appointment base on connection and who you know. so they feel like they are untouchable. they sometimes forgot their primary assignment. Nigerians allover the world can attest to this, they are have something to say about Nigeria embassy.
