It can be quite annoying when you have really important files in a flesh or a memory card but you can’t access them simply because they’ve somehow managed to disappear from the flash or memory card you saved them. Don’t panic, your files are safe. All you need do is carefully read on as I expose simple steps how to reveal and retrieve your files and put Mr. Virus to shame…

1. Navigate your way to “control panel”

2. Click on the “folder options” icon

3. Click on “view” tab at the top of the “folder options” window

4. Check “show hidden files, folders, or drives” box

5. Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)” box

Note: You’ll get a pop-up box confirming your action to unhide operating system files, click “yes”. Remember to check this box after retrieving your files; it is advisable to leave the operating system files hidden so you won’t mistakenly delete any of them as this may cause serious damage to your operating system.

6. Click on “apply” and “ok” to close the “folder options” window

7. Go to “My Computer” and open your flash drive or memory card. You should notice some new folders; one of them is like a hard disk icon

8. Double click on the one that’s like hard disk icon to open it. You should see all your files in it.

9. Copy out your files into a safe place and format the flash or memory card.

10. Copy files your files into your memory card or flash drive (make sure you have a backup of the files though)

11. Go back to “control panel” and undo everything you did in “folder options”

12. Congratulation! You’ve successfully learnt how to unhide and retrieve files hidden by a virus.
