How many hosts can a network server with an IP address of 154.37.185.9 support? Show the workings please. |

what subnet mask? Do you want NAT? For real life scenario what bandwidth size? |

ferdiii: The first question to ask your self when solving this question is what class of ip address it fall in, (154.37.185.9) You can use the first octet to identify it, for example: class A = 1-126 class B = 128-191 class C = 192-223 127 is omitted cos its your loop back address use for testing, now with these, where do you think the ip address fall in ? check the first octet of the ip address, (154.37.185.9) once you are able to figure it out then you will get your answer with the calculations below, To get the number of valid host on a class C network do 2 power 8 = 256-2 = 254 To get the number of valid host on a class B network do 2 power 16 = 65536 - 2 = 65534 To get the number of valid host on class A network do 2 power 24 = 16777216 - 2 =16777214 The options you gave is not correct!! Is this helpful ? |

Re: CISCO Thread: CISCO Professionals Identify Yourselves by Loggix: 9:40am On Dec 21, 2011 |
@life_style Your break out of the Classful Subnets would have been valid if Networks were still being designed pre-1993 before the implementation of RFCs 1519 and 4632 - CIDR. As you know, with CIDR in IPV4, Networks are no longer classified as Class A, B or C, rather we use VLSM to delineate the Subnets in a CIDR notation. For example, the IP address on the @OP could have any MASK in CIDR. it could be a 154.37.185.9/24 - 254 addresses, it could be 154.37.185.9/23 -510 addresses, etc. [or it could 154.37.185.9/25 - 128 addresses. So in essence - the question if presented correctly, should specify the MASK. In my opinion, the original Test question is ambiguous and leaves too much to be assumed, which is not a good thing I find it amusing that in this age of IPV4 and IPV6, some Test preps still include questions that have no relevance to modern Network designs - I hesitate to say it - but that is 'assuming' the original questions was asked in the context of Classful addressing. |

hi all, i just got a cisco roter 1900 series. i enabled the secret on it. After i saved the configuration, the router asked me for username. All attempts have proved abortive as i only configured password not username. PLS HELP |
Re: CISCO Thread: CISCO Professionals Identify Yourselves by Loggix: 7:45am On Dec 28, 2011 |
That is one of the peuliar things about the 1900, 2900, 3900 series Routers. If you fail to set a username and password after tbe initial use of the default ' cisco', it locks you out. I am afraid you will need to perform a password recovery on the Router to re-establish access. |
Re: CISCO Thread: CISCO Professionals Identify Yourselves by alienvirus: 7:55am On Dec 28, 2011 |
How do I do that. I tried something similar but it won't cold boot after pressing break button. Could you please show me the way to that. Thanks |

you may wish to google 'password recovery procedure on a cisco1900 Router' for a step by step procedure to accomplish the recovery process. |

@Alien, Sorry, I fell asleep as it was already 2:00am my time and I had to be up early for a Client's cutover. Okay here we go. I am not sure the Procedure you performed, but I have just completed the Pasw Recv process- just for giggles- on a C2900 ISR that I am shipping out to a Client's Site. The C2900 and C1900 are both ISRs and the process is Identical on both platforms Here is the Procedure as culled form Cisco's Site. You must be careful not to skip a step.Let me know how it goes. If you need further assistance - mail me at <loggix AT yahoo DOT com> Good Luck Example of Password Recovery Procedure This section provides an example of the password recovery procedure. This example was created with a Cisco 2900 Series ISR. Even if you do not use a Cisco 2900 Series ISR, this output provides an example of what you should experience on your product. Re: CISCO Thread: CISCO Professionals Identify Yourselves by Loggix: 4:15pm On Dec 28, 2011 |
alienvirus:@Alien, I posted a step by step procedure, but got banned by the Spambot erronously. I used the procedure on a C2900 ISR, which shares a similar Platform as the C1900. I think the issue is that your desktop is not sending the proper 'key break sequence' recognised by the Router. If your Router has a flash card, power down the Router, remove the flash card, Power up the Router and this will force it into Rommon Mode. You may then proceed with the Process below: Step-by-Step Procedure Perform these steps in order to recover your password: 1.Either switch off or shut down the router. 2.Remove the compact flash that is on the rear of the router. This image shows the rear of the 2951 router: 3.Switch on the router. 4.Once the router is on Rommon mode, reinsert the compact flash. 5.Type confreg 0x2142 at the rommon 1> prompt in order to boot from Flash. This step bypasses the startup configuration where the passwords are stored. 6.Type reset at the rommon 2> prompt. The router reboots, but ignores the saved configuration. 7.Type no after each setup question, or press Ctrl-C in order to skip the initial setup procedure. 8.Type enable at the Router> prompt. You are in enable mode and should see the Router# prompt. 9.Type configure memory or copy startup-config running-config in order to copy the nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) into memory. Warning: Do not enter copy running-config startup-config 10.Issue the show running-config command. The show running-config command shows the configuration of the router. In this configuration, the shutdown command appears under all interfaces, which indicates all interfaces are currently shut down. In addition, the passwords (enable password, enable secret, vty, and console passwords) are in either an encrypted or unencrypted format. You can reuse unencrypted passwords. You must change encrypted passwords to a new password. 11.Type configure terminal. The hostname(config)# prompt appears. 12.Type enable secret <password> in order to change the enable secret password. For example: hostname(config)#enable secret cisco 13.Issue the no shutdown command on every interface that you use. If you issue a show ip interface brief command, every interface that you want to use should display up up. 14.Type config-register <configuration_register_setting> . Where <configuration_register_setting> is either the value you recorded in step 2 or 0x2102 . For example: hostname(config)#config-register 0x2102 15.Press Ctrl-z or end in order to leave the configuration mode. The hostname# prompt appears. 16.Type write memory or copy running-config startup-config in order to commit the changes. End |
