lionel4power:Ok if its a dream, why then has it already been budgeted for and why has their been a specific closing date(30 June) set for prospective contractors to prepare their offers? 3 Likes |

lionel4power: The aquisition phase of project biro should be completed around June 30, and, considering that the hull life for these vessels is around 40 years - there is no rush |

jln115:you do know that SA have been down that road before, project biro have been delayed multiple times |

lionel4power:Yes it has been delayed, but its reached Tender stage now, thus SAN will definitely reactive a number of opv/ipv's in the next 3 years |

lionel4power:congo is richer than thailand ...why must u come here to display ur ignorance?u could have displayed it in your fathers house where no one will find out...apart from military domination and probably sea disputes, what other reason does a country need to own an aircraft carrier?owning an aircraft carrier has nothing to do with international politics,,its a matter of need..the US has 11 because they need it to protect thier world military, politics dominance..japan,south korea has no carriers,,but thailand can never win a sea battle with either of those countries...besides,thailand has sea dispute with china probably thats why they own one and for ur info, thailand''s aircraft carrier currently is non functional... 1 Like |

fineguy11: The Japanese u mentioned once used aircraft carriers, infact they've used more than 20 different carriers once sometimes try using google.com ( www.combinedfleet.com/cv.htm ) before arguing. Thailand aircraft carrier is functional but in a Low Readiness state, the carrier gives them clear tactical and strategic advantage in any crises. And please next time when you make points try not to give one-sided illustration hence you trap yourself, you mentioned the US but you left out Britain, Russia, France, Brazil, china, India,Spain, Italy plus tons of other countries with aspirations to operate carriers. And since you didn't use google before spitting trash lemme help you out Japan navy just bought an aircraft carrier called Izuomo and its as big as its WWii counterpart ( nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/japans-navy-unveils-aircraft-carrier-disguise-12483 ) but it will operate only helicopters for now until the F-35B enters active service BTW everybody knows that aircraft carrieres are instrumental in dominating international politics so I won't bother arguing about that with you. If a man argues too much with a fool, he becomes foolish himself. |

owobokiri: God will bless you, I was about to quote this racist ignoramus and use exactly the same arguments with China and Libya. China until this day is the only country in the security council of which has not built its own aircraft carrier. Libya, is a very deep topic, a man (Gadaffi) who brought water to all his people, his spent millions building the largest irrigation project the world has ever seen, it has connected every part of Libya, city or desert, giving them access to water. If Libya had these weapons which NATO or western organization would have invaded the paradise formerly known as Libya. 1 Like |

buying one is not a big deal, it costs max. 5 billion dollar. the big deal is when you can design, construct and build one all by the top brains in your nation... |

owobokiri: The continent needs food first, not weapons of mass destruction. We have learn to feed ourselves first, then we van pursue other goals. As at now we have nothing to protect, apart from corruption, miseries, ignorance and abject backwardness. We are our own worse enemies at the moment, not oyinbos or Chinese. |

redsun: You are putting the cart before the horse. How many states have developed in middle of wars? How can you talk about economic prosperity in the middle of all these choas ? Can a state function without being protected? You first need to secure the state before you can erect the intitutions and structures needed to improve life standards and you can't do this in Africa if you have a pugnacious west desperate to turn the continent into a battle ground between the east and west. An army with some icbms and some nuclear warheads will force perennial imperialists to think twice before trying to meddle. Secure the state first, and other things will be added to you. |

fineguy11:dude did u use the link at all? Here's another thediplomat.com/2015/03/japans-new-helicopter-carrier-bad-news-for-chinese-subs/ . . . USNI News notes that the Izumo could also accommodate fixed wing aircraft – perhaps up to 27 total: The ship would also be able to field American MV-22s and potentially the short takeoff and vertical landing variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), however Japanese defense officials have repeatedly said they have no plans to use the JSF on the Izumo. The new carrier is slightly larger than other light carriers, such as the Italian Cavour and the Spanish Principe de Asturias – both of which carry fixed wing aircraft. Total costs of the ship are billed at about 120 billion yen ($1 billion), although they may be as high as $ 1.5 billion. The naming of the vessel caused some controversy. “[T]he name Izumo itself has historical baggage: the original Izumo, an armored cruiser that participated in the Battle of Tsushima, was purchased with reparations from the first Sino-Japanese War. There is little doubt all parties, particularly the Chinese, are aware of the lineage,” one analyst noted. it was made as an LPH but it can also be used as an aircraft carrier if Japan wants to don't flaunt your ignorance publicly. 1 Like |

fineguy11:Thank you, I had wanted to reply him but felt it is not really neccesary after reading his post again. Thailands aircraft carrier spends more time at the dock than at sea, it only moves to perform humanitarian activities. Congo has 800 naval personels, not enough to start an aircraft carrier, talk less of navigating it. 1 Like |
