Tomtoxic:

Now hear the words of ibrahimovic about guardiola and mourinho.
on guardiola -"Whatever happened, as a coach
he was fantastic," Ibrahimovic said. "
on mourinho "[Mourinho is] the master brain,
mastermind. He know what he
needs to do to win."

Ibrahimovic hates Guardiola with a passion. So do you think Ibrahimovic will scream praises for Guardiola? The bolded proves my point. Mourinho knows his level and he is ready to play five defenders to win his game. When it fails, he looks ridiculously stupid because everyone knows that is mediocre coaching.

Mourinho should stick to his level of football. He can not be on the same list as a legendary tactician like Guardiola.

Can Ighalo shine for Eagles? Why Odion Ighalo cannot reproduce Watford form with Nigeria

After a testing international break and a weekend defeat against Manchester United, the Watford frontman still has much to proveCOMMENTBySolomon Fowowe Follow on Twitter
The first leg of Nigeria’s tie against theSihlangu Semnikatiof Swaziland last week was riddled with lateral passing, sterile possession, hopeful long-balls, lack of verticality, incision and integrated movement, bizarre substitutions and tactical naiveté.

The drab, goalless affair was arguably the nadir of coach Sunday Oliseh’s tenure, but a two-goal victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium and qualification for the next round should buy him some respite from heavy criticism — if not good will.

Sunday Oliseh: The Master Gambler?
[img][http://static.goal.com/di/5DAED54676116D8BAD722CEB927A82C9.jpg/img]
The identity and pattern of play of the Super Eagles under Oliseh has been vague or incipient at best.

Six games into the coach’s managerial reign does not seem too early to demand a semblance of a playing style, Oliseh’s charges have sometimes looked like strangers intent on winning a hoofball competition, pelting the forwards with as many long balls as possible.

Odion Ighalo, the striker who has been used for a large part of Oliseh’s time in charge to date, has been isolated, marginalised and under-utilised in most games he has played. Statistically, two goals in five appearances doesn't make for bad reading, but a more detailed look evinces that the goals include a penalty against Chad and a header against a hapless and depleted Cameroon side.

The Watford player has not quite taken international football by storm, as his club form suggested he would, but this disappointment is no fault of his. He was as isolated as a leprous pariah and looked alienated by the lack of support from his teammates— they preferred poking him with the ball.

Ighalo's stats this season
The forward looked more involved in the second leg against the King’s Shield of Swaziland, dropping deep and drifting laterally, it was a much improved performance from him because he received more service and wasn’t constrained to the central areas in and around the box.

He created chances, won a tackle and should probably consider himself a tad unlucky for not getting on the scoring sheet.

Lively from the start, he took the ball at the left side of the box took on a defender, turned him inside out, and shot a goal-bound effort that was deflected for a corner kick.

He started the game with vim and vigour, hoping to banish the thoughts of the previous game and prevent the reoccurrence of the insipid performance.

Has Nigeria seen Ighalo's best yet?

It was not the perfect performance, as Ighalo spurned some gilt-edged chances, but it was heartening to see those chances created at all. There was the pass from Obafemi Martins that the 26-year-old shot at the goalkeeper, and the volley he skewed wide from Paul Onobi’s long-range pass.

The movement and numbers in the box at some points also aided chance creation. Ighalo combined with Musa in the front of the box to fashion a chance, but it was well defended by the southern Africans, threaded a fine pass to Moses Simon and a cut back to Sylvester Igbonu after a good work down the right.

The Hornets’ striker was good in the game but not great; with the team still learning to play to his strengths.

It was befuddling that the tack of the Super Eagles before the second leg was to almost exclusively hit long balls to the forward who, with his deceitful 6’1 frame, doesn’t offer much in the air. Ighalo’s weakness is evidenced by the fact that he has won same amount of aerial duels per game—0.5— as Jermaine Defoe who is 17cm shorter.

His aerial limitations are not a result of a lack of long passes played by his team. Ahead of this weekend, Watford had played 925 long passes, the highest amount in the Premier League, and 414 of the passes were accurate. They are the third most accurate long passers in the league, and it is perhaps telling that his teammate Troy Deeney wins more aerial battles per match on average than all but two EPL players, and more than any other player to have played eight games or more.

Can Ighalo shine for Eagles?

The 26-year-old does his business in and around the box, scarcely shooting from outside the box, and it’s little surprise that he’s yet to net from outside the area so far this season.

With seven goals and two assists in the Premier League, his intelligent positioning, his exemplary movement, and his predatory instincts in the box is hardly exploited. The hard-running and bustling Igbonu, who has played behind Ighalo, has been uninventive and lacking in the interpretation of his role in the hole.

Deeney so far this season |Is he the secret to Ighalo's success?
He hardly availed himself for a passing interchange with the forward, and has arguably offered zilch going forward from open play. Deeney, who plays the position at Watford, has struck a cosy understanding with the forward, providing three of his seven goals. Deeney offers intense work rate and bustle as well, but is more inventive, and physically more imposing than Sly.

Perhaps, a strike partner or a central attacking midfielder who can spot a run, pick a pass and interpret the role more astutely than Igbonu could allow Ighalo to.

Only when Ighalo has the right players around him—or when Deeney’s Nigerian citizenship comes through (!)—will the Hornet truly find his sting and begin transferring his EPL form to the international arena.

Newcastle, Sunderland keen on Martins loan

Martins-His Seattle Sounders have hit the MLS playoffs semis

Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Sunderland have been linked with signing Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins on a short-term loan deal in the MLS off-season.

The Magpies have been goal shy this season and manager Steve McClaren is reportedly keen to bring Martins back to St. James’ Park, where he played for three seasons between 2006 and 2009.

Current Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce worked with Martins during his spell at Newcastle and is well aware of the West African’s abilities.

In three seasons in the MLS with the Seattle Sounders, Martins has scored 40 goals and registered 23 assists.

He was also a runner-up in the voting for the 2014 season’s MVP (Most Valuable Player).

Omeruo's adviser stages scouting tourney in Abuja

Akunjogi (right) with Omeruo and Kanu in Holland

Adviser to Super Eagles star Kenneth Omeruo, Chika Akujobi, will stage a two-day talent scouting tournament in Abuja from Sunday with representatives of several Portuguese clubs in attendance.

Tagged ‘EuroSoccer Vision’, the tournament will be staged under the auspices of Akujobi’s company JobiSports Consult Africa Limited and will be another platform for talented youngsters to impress European clubs.

“We have brought down scouts from several top Portuguese clubs like FC Porto and Gil Vicente to run the rule on players who hitherto would not have got such an opportunity,” said Holland-based Akujobi, who facilitated Omeruo’s move to Europe.

“We have many such tournaments now in Nigeria, but ours will be professionally run with full video coverage as well as data capturing of all the players who feature in the competition.”

A total of six clubs including Nationwide Division 2 side FC Hearts of Abuja and FC Sports are expected to feature in the competition, which will be played at the Area 3 Sports Ground in Abuja.

Kick-off time on Sunday will be 8am.

Nigeria: The unending quest for a No. 10

moses musa mikel igbonu iheanacho babatunde

Fans of the national team continue to bemoan the absence of a true creative attacking midfielder, but isn't it time to accept their unavailability and seek alternative solutions?
GOAL COMMENT By Solace Chukwu Follow on Twitter

Is it at all surprising that a nation which has always elevated individuals over systems in all walks of life should continue to hanker after a no.10?

As Nigeria toiled against Swaziland, the reactions often centred on a perceived lack of creativity within the team, as if a fairy godmother who with a wave of a wand could turn a midfield of Paul Onobi, Ogenyi Onazi and Sylvester Igbonu into something resembling ‘ La Carre Magique ’.

While the concept of ‘creativity’ is an abstract one, and the idea of any one player being designated to provide it is becoming quainter, it is clear that this problem – for it is one, but not in the manner most seem to understand – predates the regime of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles coach.

Nigeria started the opening game at the 2014 World Cup with Ramon Azeez, an energetic ball-winner and distributor, behind Emmanuel Emenike upfront. By the second game, Stephen Keshi deployed Babatunde Michael in that position and the Dnipro winger acquitted himself reasonably well. He continued in the role until Onazi broke his arm with a shot of primal fury against Argentina, upon which Victor Moses, another winger, had a go.

Babatunde would not pull on a Nigeria jersey competitively until June of this year, when Nigeria faced Chad in a 2017 Cup of Nations qualifier. He turned in a completely insipid display, and has not been recalled since.

Babatunde | Thus far unable to build on his showings in Brazil

This run of events highlight two interesting facts: first, and more obviously, the Super Eagles are strapped for options in the central attacking midfield position. Second, this is not necessarily a problem: the responsibilities of the position in modern football are evolving. It is interesting to note that Babatunde performed adequately against Bosnia, where a first-half goal allowed the Super Eagles to play on the counter for the rest of the game, as well as against Argentina, where a win was not required and Nigeria again played on the break.

These required him to function simply as a transition player, reducing the onus on incisive passing and sound decision-making. Against Chad, where the initiative needed to be seized against defensive opponents, his limitations were apparent.

So what is clear is that the demands of the position differ on the basis of match strategy as well as game-situation. The idea of that one player, ectoplasmic and elusive, with the ability to ‘unlock’ the opposing defence with a moment of sorcery, is not grounded in reality. For one thing, having a player in this capacity makes a team easier to defend against—shut down that individual, and neuter the entire team. Also, the spaces where these players would naturally inhabit are disappearing.

With more teams playing a double-pivot in front of the defence, there is often no space at all within which these sprites can wreak their havoc. It is no coincidence that those still considered pure no.10s in the modern game spend a significant amount of the game drifting out to the flanks: David Silva, Mesut Ozil, Kevin De Bruyne, to name a few.

So perhaps we are looking in the wrong place or, even worse, asking the wrong question. Rather than jam square pegs in round holes, as is now being done once again with Igbonu, it would be more profitable to look to alternatives.

John Obi Mikel, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa and even Nosa Igiebor may jump out as possible candidates for the No. 10 role, but are any really the solution?

gbonu | Can he be the answer for Nigeria as a No. 10?

Oliseh cannot have failed to notice Barcelona’s ruthless evisceration of Real Madrid in El Clasico last weekend, the Catalonians set up in a 4-3-3. This left the No. 10 space open for occupation by, not just one, but multiple players at a time if necessary: Andres Iniesta slaloming forward, Sergi Roberto drifting inside from wide-right, Luis Suarez dropping deep. The combinations of these players between the lines unbalanced the Real backline time and again, and widened the gaps from an already flagging midfield.

Obviously, the point is not to advocate a move to that system, but rather to illustrate that there are options to explore. Igbonu’s hustle, all huff and puff, failed to inspire against Swaziland. We don’t make Kanus anymore; even if we did, the modern game is swiftly leaving that sort of player behind.

In the absence of the ideal, we owe it to ourselves to maximise the available.

The best person for the ten role is Sone Aluko. He was mesmerising and brilliant in the game against South Africa. He did not only play the role well, he showed creativity and skills that we missed for a long time. He also showed his goal prowess when he played that role after he scored two goals and almost got a third.

I hope Coach Oliseh calls Aluko and gives him a chance in that role. We play better with him. Just like his brilliant performance in our 3-1 demolition of Sudan.

Coach Oliseh, call Aluko and end the search.

2016 CHAN: Oliseh urged to invite more players

Coach Sunday Oliseh

The 2016 CHAN tournament is a little over a month before kick off and despite sealing qualification, Sunday Oliseh, who disclosed he has a pool of players from the local League he’s working with, equally knows a top spot finish will boost Nigeria’s chances of an easy landing in the 2018 World Cup draws.

One player who’s keen on breaking into the group, Bolaji Shakin of Abia Warriors has appealed to the coach to extend his search for capable legs to help Nigeria achieve a better result this time around – Eagles won Bronze at the third edition in South Africa – in the competition.

“I’m good enough to make the Eagles team to the CHAN, and I think the coach can also invite more players across the League where there are players who can help Nigeria achieve a better outcome,” he said.

Stanley Okoro

Bulgarian top division club Cherno More have snapped up top prospect Stanley Okoro.

20 - year - old Stanley Okoro, who has played for the Super Eagles as well as Nigeria's Under 17 and 20 teams, has joined Cherno More on loan for the remainder of the 2013 - 2014 season.

Having hugely impressed manager Georgi Ivanov during pre - season training, the starlet has been rewarded with a contract.

'' I can confirm I have signed a one - year contract with Cherno More. My jersey number is 20.

'' I'll play on loan from Almeria. I am still under contract with the Spanish club for the next three years.

'' My new teammates and the club have treated me nice since I arrived Bulgaria,'' Stanley Okoro, silver champion with the Golden Eaglets back in 2009, told allnigeriasoccer.com.

Almeria have been promoted to Spain's La Liga , so it is understandable that Okoro wants to play in a club where he's guaranteed first team opportunities.

We should not forget that Stanley Okoro was once described as 'Little Messi' in his homeland.

@Sir Orkpekyandega,

*smiles*

The Journalist got it wrong age-wise.

Stanley Okoro's Birth year is put at 1992 (yeah, yeah, I know..... he's probably older than this. But let's work with '92 shall we? Thanks).

So Stanley can't be "20 years old" right now. This Journalist need to be caned for this. Where are his Maths skills? *smiles*

On the fact that he featured for the Super Eagles, I agree with the journalist 100%. I watched that game on T.V. in 2010 against Madagascar. It was a qualifier and Stanley made his senior debut in that game as a second-half substitute.
The game was played @ the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar and Nigeria won 2-0.

Of course, Stanley was also an U-17 international with silver @ Nigeria 2009 Fifa U-17 World cup.

And yep, he was an U-20 international winning Gold with Nigeria @ the 2011 Caf U-20 Afcon (AYC). Though he didn't make the final squad for the 2011 Fifa U-20 world cup.

Hope you're clear now Sir........ *smiles*

The journalist only made "one faux pas" *winks*

**One avoidable mistake.... Please bear with the fella. #smiles#

EXCLUSIVE: Cherno More Snap Up Almeria's Stanley Okoro On Loan

What is the shocker about this?

This was published in 2013 when Stanley Okoro was officially 20yrs old meaning he was 16 when he played U17 in 2009 which makes sense.
Yes he was part of the initial squad for the 2011 U20 before being dropped ahead of the WYC. So he has played the U20.
And yes he has played for the Super Eagles I have forgotten the which game though. So he is an ex-Super Eagle grin

So what is the shocker and lazy journalism here. smiley

@Sir Orkpekyandega,

#smiles#

That article was published in 2013 so the journalist was abt right concerning Stanley Okoro's age.

So, Orkpekyandega is the lazy one who refused to get his facts before criticizing.

Nigeria stands a chance making the top 5 seeds if we win the CHAN or get to the final and perform excellently well in the remainder of our AFCON qualifiers. Yes, FIFA recognizes the CHAN and uses it in her monthly rating.

Haven't heard anything about the "little messi" until now.

Guess, I'll keep tabs on him too. *hmmm.....

He can not be on the same list as a legendary tactician like Guardiola.
the bolded part proves my point not yours bro take note a good tactician is 1 who knws what needs to be done to win and that's the definition of mourinho

Mourinho is a good tactician. Guardiola is a great tactician and a master that operates on a level Mourinho can not dream of.

Mourinho knows how to coach to win. Guardiola knows how to create a masterpiece on the field and crush his opponents.

No way Sir, that is why I deliberately posted the news item together with the date, which I hardly do.

The portion in the article, that got me angry is the one that says Stanley Okoro played for both U-17, U-20 and the 'SUPER EAGLES'.

I can't just remember when Stanley Okoro was invited to the 'SUPER EAGLES' let alone play for the same team.

I actually searched my google to see where and when he got his Super Eagles debut, but found non. But if an elder like Sir Icon4s says Stanley Okoro got his debut, Who am I to doubt that. Its just that there are no links to back up your position.

Alex Iwobi Returns To Arsenal First Team

Alex Iwobi trained with the first team of Arsenal at London Colney on Friday ahead of the visit of Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.

According to a llnigeriasoccer.com the 19-year-old might make the bench tomorrow against the Black Cats, with Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla all sidelined through injury.

Iwobi, who is naturally a winger, may slot into midfield if he is given a run - out at the Emirates and has played for the Arsenal U21s in that position in recent games.

The Nigeria international made his Premier League debut for the Gunners in their 3 - 0 win over Swansea at the end of October but has not featured for the first team since then, though he made the bench against Spurs the following week.

Sone Aluko is really a good choice. The Coach should forget his earlier stance that only players who play in top leagues in the world can get invitation to the national team, just like he did in the case of Onobi and the rest, and invite Aluko. He is the one the cap fits in the midfield.

I don't really know the problem with Coach Sunday Oliseh, but I think he wants to see if he can lay his hands on players who can perform better than the ones who have been given chances already. For now, I just want to be patient with him. I will only loose my peace when, he continues to invite below per performers, without looking into those who have proved themselves with the national team already

I still remember that game but to say the truth, Okoro looked very ordinary on the pitch. He tried a lot of skills but none of them worked.

I felt he needed more games to prove himself in the National team but the chance did not come.

I appreciate your contribution Sir, nice to have you here. I am the type of person who appreciates his own, but on comparative stands, Nigerian league does not stand near most of the leagues where some of the boys are churning out steller performances are ignored by our Coaches.

With due respect Sir, you and I do know that Nigerian league can't be compared with the English Championship, and a player that shines in such a league, let alone shone for the Super Eagles should be given a look in.

I do not in any way rate low or look down on the Nigerian league.
