More facts have emerged on why lawmakers representing President Goodluck Jon­athan’s constituency in the National Assembly and the Bayelsa State House of Assembly dumped him for the All Progressives Con­gress (APC) two-weeks to the end of his tenure.

Senator Clever Ikisikpo representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district, Hon Nadu Karibo represent­ing Ogbia Federal Con­stituency and Hon Azibola Omekwe representing Og­bia constituency 3 in the State House of Assembly had during their defection at the APC national secre­tariat said they were leav­ing the PDP for the APC because aside the fact that the structure of the party has been hijacked by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson as decisions are imposed on party mem­bers, there is also the need to serve their constituents better by ensuring that they do not miss out in the di­rection the nation is going at the national level.

Saturday Sun investi­gations however revealed that the trio of Ikisikpo, Karibo and Omekwe de­cided to move to APC to embarrass Jonathan over his failure to ensure they retained their tickets dur­ing the Peoples Democrat­ic Party (PDP) primaries.

They are angry that Jon­athan watched helplessly as Dickson and few stake­holders in Ogbia brought in people to replace them after he had assured them that they would retain their tickets. During the primaries, Mr Ben Mur­ray-Bruce had replaced Ikisikpo, Mrs Sodago Fes­tus- Omoni replaced Kari­bi, while Mietama Obor­dor replaced Omekwe.

The three lawmakers who were on the side of former governor Timipre Sylva during his travails with Jonathan and the PDP leadership over the Bay­elsa governorship race in 2011 decided to move to the APC to neutralize the political influence of Jona­than after May 29 in his constituency.

Though Ikisikpo is said to be nursing a governor­ship ambition on the APC platform, Karibo in an in­terview with Saturday Sun said their defection was to embrace the wind of change and make Ogbia people benefit from the Buhari’s administration.

Checks indicated that the sudden defection of the three lawmakers has thrown the leadership of the state PDP into panic especially as it is believed that the political associ­ates of Sylva are regroup­ing to launch an onslaught against the PDP in the state ahead of the coming gov­ernorship election in the state.

Findings further re­vealed that with the de­fection of the lawmakers, more lawmakers in the State House of Assembly who are already in talks with Sylva on how to per­fect their defection would announce their move to the APC in the coming days. Also aggrieved party members who be­lieved they are hounded by Dickson are also discuss­ing with the leadership of the APC in the state on the possibility of defecting be­fore the PDP announces their expulsion.

Dickson in his reaction to the defection of the law­makers had also confirmed that members facing disci­plinary action of the party would defect from the par­ty when he said the public should expect more defec­tions in the coming days from those who worked against the candidates of the party in the state House of Assembly elections.
